Actual Excuses I've Used To Not Work Out in 2008

Now that the year is half over, I've managed to produce a catalog in my head of reasons I shouldn't work out on any given day. I thought some folks out in cyberspace might like to borrow some of mine when you are running low on your own excuses.

1. I worked out yesterday. Two days in a row seems excessive.

2. There are too many piles of laundry around the house that need to be done.

3. I'm recovering from a cold or I feel a cold coming on, so I should stay home and rest.

4. I ate a lot of fruits and vegies yesterday, so I really don't need to exercise today.

5. I'm PMSing.

6. My kid went to school today and isn't feeling well. He/she might call and need to be picked up and I won't hear my cell phone because of the loud music they play at the gym.

7. I might run into my best friend's ex-husband, who is also a member at my gym, and I'm not in the mood to make small talk with him today.

8. I don't like the guy who sits at the front desk.

9. I have a lunch date today.

10. My blog needs updating (if you look at the number of posts I have, you'll see how valid this excuse can be).

11. We're low on groceries plus I need to make a Target run.

12. The bathrooms need cleaned and that is a workout in and of itself.

13. It's too nice outside to be stuck in a smelly gym today.

Which leads to a new set of excuses of why I can't walk my 5 miles/day goal in the spring/summer/fall:

14. It's humid outside, so if I work out, I'm going to retain too much water and become swollen.

15. I can't find a friend to walk with.

16. There have been a few reported crimes in the area of the park, so I really shouldn't go there, even with a buddy.

17. The grass needs cut and that's a lot of exercise right there.

18. I already took a shower today.

19. I don't have time today because my kids need to go to the library, etc.

20. The air quality is not too good today, so walking in it would be counter-productive.

Hope that helps!

  1. I have used the whole shower excuse. And the "it's already too humid in here" line. Yeah. I work out my excuses more than anything else some days!

  2. Sometimes it's your imagination that gets the most exercise ;-)

  3. We've gotten a lot of rain lately. Darn it, the weather just doesn't seem to be cooperating with my exercise routine :)

  4. As I sit here, scarfing Tostitos, I've been thinking "gee, it's nice out ... I should go for my walk."

That's about it. I'll borrow one of your excuses and call it a night.
