No One Calls Me Martha

As Halloween draws near, middle child always dreams up some sort of elaborate costume that she is inspired to hound me about. Last year, with American Idol illusions of grandeur, she wanted to be a "pop star." I managed to pull that off by buying her a long purple wig and finding various weird clothes from her own closet along with a pretend microphone.

This year, she got it into her head that a "50's Girl" would be cool. Cheapskate that I am, I once again rummaged through closets and drawers until I found a white blouse, neck scarf (it's actually a belt) and a long, full skirt (thank you '80's Outback Red collection from the Limited). All I needed to do was turn it into a "poodle skirt."

For those of you who are talented at skills such as drawing, sewing, etc., please hide your amusement. However, if you are like me, and lack any sort of crafty skills, you may now congratulate me on surviving another year of costume creation:

  1. I think it looks wonderful! You shouldn't be so hard on yourself - I don't think I could've pulled that off!

  3. Good job! I always HATED trying to make a costume. It seemed the other person always made it up better. I have no imagination when it comes to halloween costumes. lol

  4. rock on! i am all about cheapo costumes.

my two favorite? made out of paper bags.

one was a cat (cut out head and armholes for body. tail glued on. another small bag cut out like a hat with ears on top)

    one was....wait for it.....

a box of cake mix. hahahaha

of course this only works as long as the child is small enough to wear paper bags.

  5. I miss making costumes for my kids. They are too big and picky for it to be fun anymore.

  8. Thanks Everyone for the vote of confidence. I considered hot gluing that poodle on, but opted for a quick sewing job in case I ever need to use the skirt for pioneer day or some other sort of nonsense.
