I don't normally remember my dreams, but the one I had last night disturbed me to the extent that it is now emblazoned in my memory. I got a tattoo. If you knew me in real life, you'd know that I'd be the last person you really do know who would ever get a tattoo. I do not even have pierced ears. I am just not into body reconfiguration. The tattoo artist was showing me one page only of tattoo choices. I flippantly told her that I didn't like most of them because they were too girly - I distinctly remember "Hello Kitty" being one of the choices. I told her, "just give me the Jesus fish," and I pulled down my underwear so that she could begin work on my right hip! Yeah, it gets weirder.......
The real life me does not watch when I have to get blood drawn or a shot, so this was the true to life part: I didn't watch. I felt some pain, but was saying, "it's not that bad." She asked me if I wanted the Greek letters inside the fish to be readable for me, looking down at my hip, or the other way. I told her the other way. When she was finished, I looked down and saw that the fish was pointed head down (towards my feet) and I was kind of mad. I had thought it would be going sideways. But I didn't say anything. Oh, and the tattoo was red, instead of the normal color of a tattoo.
To conclude my fun day, I walked outside and found myself at the Badlands National Park. I was looking around for my family. What a vacation!
I'm open to interpretations.
You, uh, got a Jesus Fish tattooed on your butt?
ReplyDeleteI, uh, have no clue what that means, but I'm sure, whatever it is, it's, um, highly interesting. . .
Nope, it was on my hip.
ReplyDeletei dunno, i am no dream analyst but maybe it confirms that you have no interest in conforming to current trends and that you intend to stand for what you believe in (the choice of image and the color in which it was inked) i dunno.
ReplyDeletedreams are weird things. if i told you some of mine you'd be calling the shrink straightaway.
Ah. Resort to an on-line dream dictionary:
ReplyDeleteTattoo--To see your body appearing tattooed, foretells that some difficulty will cause you to make a long and tedious absence from your home.
Fish--For Jung, fish were symbols of some content from the unconscious, emotions, or life energy that is been stirring around in the unconscious from the beginning of our life. Therefore, fishing represents the search for, or process of becoming aware of, material from the unconscious. In this way fish can also symbolize the Self, or the inner Christ.
If the above does not seem to fit, consider a situation in which you or another have been acting like a cold fish or big fish in a little pond. You or another may have been fishing for compliments or other information; or behaving like a fish out of water. Is there something fishy about some situation; or is someone more of a queer fish than you have realized?
Perhaps it is time to get a little rest and hang up a gone fishing sign in your window. If you are fishing, it can symbolize a wish to relieve present stress; a need to get away and ponder some situation; delving into the waters of the unconscious for insight and wisdom. Eating fish would be incorporating new realizations or spiritual feelings or knowledge. If you are in the water, being eaten or swallowed by a large fish, this is the archetypal theme of night sea journey.
Fish may suggest you need to look to earlier situations for guidance in a present situation. Twin or double fishes can represent the astrological sign for Pisces, possibly someone born under that sign. Tiny fish in a bowl or container may represent sperm, a wish for sex or pregnancy. In many cultures, fish represent fertility and the preservation of life.
Clear now? Not so much, eh? Cuz' on-line stuff is so reliable and all.
To clarify, only the first and last paragraphs were written by me! (I'm only a little nuts.)
ReplyDeleteLime - actually, what you said makes sense!
ReplyDeleteLaggin - I've never heard of an online dream dictionary! Thanks for all the info; it cracked me up!
I looked some of this up, too, and found that the tatoo represents permanency. I don't know if the fish sign itself means anything, but the color red represents life/energy. The fact that, in your dream, you were disappointed with the direction of the fish sign could mean that you are disappointed or disatisfied with how people view your spiritual life.
ReplyDeleteSometimes dreams have something to tell us and other times it's just the pizza and ice cream we had for dinner.
PR - more than likely, I have unresolved mother issues too!
