My 25

JodyJ was kind enough to tag me. Thank goodness, because I seem to be the last one on the planet to come up with my list.

Here's 25 random things you may not know about moi:

1. I'm tall and slim. I never wear heels because then I feel like an Amazon woman.

2. I've always had an obsession with my hair.

3. I met my husband when I was dating one of his house roommates in college.

4. I don't like making phone calls because it takes too long. On line everything!

5. My first kiss was at an amusement park when I was 15 years old. The park is long gone, but I like to think that picnic table is still smokin' somewhere!

6. I ran for student senate on a whim (really, as a joke) in college and won. Thank you, men of Sigma Nu.

7. I was president of a business club in college. I have no qualms about speaking in front of audiences.

8. I paid for my entire four years of college, working minimum wage jobs. Of course, this was back when tuition was $30/credit hour.

9. Two of my three kids are very athletic which shocks many of my friends who remember me as getting picked last in gym class.

10. I took piano lessons for over seven years as a child. I recently tried to teach myself guitar, without much success.

11. I took French for seven years too. I'm learning German with my kids right now.

12. I quit swimming lessons and ballet after about seven months, so I can be a slacker too.

13. I read about 40 books per year. Books are a passion of mine.

14. I like to cook and bake and I try new recipes on a weekly basis.

15. I worked in retail management for a few years, then switched to non-profit. The meetings are real snoozers in both arenas.

16. I've always enjoyed math and I think balancing checkbooks is fun. I've been treasurer of a local non-profit group for many years.

17. I was dreadful at science and got my only 'D' in honors biology.

18. My high school sweetheart became a professional photographer and has refused to give me the photos he took of me way back when :(

19. My kids think I laugh too loud in public. I tend to laugh a lot and embarrass them.

20. Valentine's Day is my favorite holiday. I'm a sucker for romance.

21. I am a friend for life. The majority of my friends have been stuck with me for over 35 years.

22. The perfect meal to me is pizza and a bottle of pinot noir.

23. I went on three missions trips in high school: Appalachia, an Indian reservation in northern Minnesota, and the West Indies.

24. My parents think I never lived up to my potential.

25. The one word that describes me best: dichotomy

Comments

  1. How were your mission trips? I know I've mentioned that I'm not into organized religion, but I am interested in mission trips. Weird, I know, but the chance to meet so many new people in different environments is fascinating to me.

  2. 10) I took piano lessons for 8 yrs, too; I finally went out for jr. hi football 'cuz practice conflicted w/ piano lessons. Hang in there w/ the guitar, tho; if you can play piano, guitar ain't that hard. . .

    13) 40 books/year? That's incredible! I used to read maybe half that. These days, I struggle to finish my two monthly magazine subscriptions before the new issues arrive. . .

    16) I think there's some kind of Fundamental Divide between 'financial math people' and 'science math people'. Because we just don't seem to 'get' each other's stuff very well. . .

    25) Now you've got me curious. What dichotomy? Between what and what?

  3. Interesting list.
    1. Amazon's good, nothing to fear!
    4. I'm all with you there, I hate phones
    5. Queenie and I were just talking about our first kiss the other day. Things like that happen when the brats get dating!
    8. Same here. what kinda jobs got you there?
    19. Laughing's good, the louder the better!

  4. I yawned just reading the entry including nonprofit meetings. They! Take! Hours! (and then you still don't have any action plans in place when they're done)(mmmm...'action plans'...now that's a good meeting word!)

  5. Oh, and. . .

    8) I paid $11/credit for the math class I took at the CC my senior yr. in HS. Freshman year at MegaStateU was $16/credit. By the time I was working on my Master's, I was appalled to be paying $28. I mean, can you believe that?

  6. Mama - They were a life changing experience, all of them.

Desmond - I've lost count of how many people have said to me, "I just can't figure you out." That's why I added #25. I'm very conservative on some things and I'm way out there on others, I guess.

Xavier - I was a receiving room clerk/computer person at a high-end women's clothing store and a student assistant on campus.

FADKOG - YES! And all our board members had multiple alphabet soup after their names, which makes them think they are a lot more interesting to listen to.

Desmond - I still have my first bill....$498 for 18 credit hours. Of course, I was only earning about $3.15/hour, so that bill did seem steep at the time. By my last bill, it was over twice as much.

  9. I've always wondered why people do missin trips to Appalachia when this area has more churches already than you can shake a stick at. Unless it is to help with housing or that sort of thing.

  10. Point #9: What does the third kid do? Do they know they are not athletic?

  11. I feel like I know you a bit more after this post!!

  12. Lime - Show me da money!

Mike - My husband was a high school jock too.

Citizen - The area we were in was very poor. The church was a one room shack, smaller than my family room. We fed, babysat and taught VBS to the kids in the area and did some church repairs, along with bringing supplies.

Trooper - She's musically inclined (see two posts ago). And yes, she's well aware of her physical limitations (she always says, "I'm like you, Mom!")

    Jody - Hope that's a good thing!

  14. Pseuod - Thanks for stopping by. We have something in common - nothing worse than team sports where your teammates are yelling at you to get the ball.

  15. Yep, I definitely want you as my personal dichotomic french maid, for life, in heels, with coifed hair, to play some piano for me, and read to me - in French, and bake me all kinds of delicacies - like homemade pizza, to laugh uproarously with (is uproarously a word? lol), and cry at sappy movies.

...or we could just hang out and balance our checkbooks together with a bottle of wine.
    LOL ;)

  16. LB - I don't do heels! I'm good for the rest though - open up a bottle of red and have a glass for me!

    ReplyDelete
  17. LOL - Yeah, I saw where you said that in the post and that's kindof my whole point... I think you'd look SMASHING in heels, not Amazonian at ALL. lol

  18. There's no such thing as laughing too loud. :^)

  19. Is the Love Of Balancing Chequebooks something you can transfer with a wiggle of your cute lil nose? Cause I could use a dose of that over here.
