A Weird Day In the Neighborhood

I'm fortunate to have a city metropark and a national park within a very short drive from my home. However, I will only walk in those parks if I have a friend to go with. Most days, I trek about three miles in my development. It's been wonderful the past few weeks to be able to get out again and enjoy the surroundings. And odd surroundings they can be . . . . .

This is my neighbor who stockpiles wood for the next decade or two. He cut down a number of huge trees in his front yard a few years back and then just stacked it in the middle of his front yard.
You may not be able to tell from the picture, but it's almost as high as his garage shed and about 10 feet deep.

Neon green tape is much
more festive than plain,
black electrical tape.

I've been noticing this
bumper sticker on a truck
in the neighborhood
for years. Obviously an angry
teamster who doesn't appreciate
the police as much as I do.

A Halloween reject,
perhaps? If these
Smarties survived
70 inches of snow since
October, I don't want
to know what they do
in your stomach.

I chuckle everytime I pass this.
It's good to see that there young
cowboy guarding the Blessed
Virgin, isn't it?

More weird photos to come, later this week.

  1. Hey, your wood-collecting neighbor wasn't in FADKOG's town just recently, was he?

  2. First of all you have NO snow left??? Green grass?? Man where I live sucks! :O) It's snowing today and shall continue throughout the day, so says the weatherman.
Looks like you live in a beautiufl neighbourhood with a lot of wacky neighbours.

  3. Hey...would you check to see if my firewood is in that massive collection? At the very least, maybe put the blessed Virgin Mary on the case?

    :)

(oh, this is perfect! my word verification is 'hottoxic'! so awesome!)

  4. Des - I know! I was chuckling when I read her post yesterday, right after I took those photos.

Jody - The snow is GONE! Sorry it's snowing there today; it's raining here, which I can handle.

FADKOG - We have a lot of folks here who dress up their concrete geese; I'll find one who looks like Sherlock Holmes to see if he can crack your case.

  6. Just an ordinary neighborhood so far as I can tell. Only thing missing are the flamingos.

You should see what my yard looks like!

  7. Lime - It is a strange combo, isn't it??

Xavier - I didn't photograph any, but many neighbors have those concrete geese that they dress up with changes of clothing to match the seasons. It's very bizarre to me. I'm grateful for the lack of flamingos, but there's a city not too far from here that is famous for them!

  8. ARRGHHH! Blogger ate my comment... "bad Blogger, bad boy!"

Well, seeing as I'm in the same boat as JodyJ and watching the snow fall deep outside in the last freaking week of March... I have to say that your pics look like a quirky piece of heaven. :)

  11. That certainly doesn't look like Mister Roger's Neighborhood. Interesting though...

  12. Flutter - We always get snow here sometime in April, so I'm not in the clear yet.

Laggin - Now if it would have been a Reese's cup, I might have been tempted.

    Citizen - A likely scenario :)

Mike - The first photo in my next post may change your mind.

  13. LOL, more fun odd-ball n'bors, LOL! Luv it!

why would you even HAVE green electrical tape & not black? lol

I really have a serious aversion to fake animals posed in the yard. That deer is too too much. lol

  14. LB - I just noticed today, the same neighbor w/ the deer and cowboy/Virgin Mary also has a couple of fake squirrels around their yard. Weird, weird stuff.
