White Coat Fever

I believe I can trace my suffering to childhood when every doctor visit resulted in a penicillin shot in the rear end. I truly dread doctor visits. Despite feeling fine and dandy (besides the sprained ankle, which I didn't even bother seeing a doctor for), I've been running to the doctor's office every week for the past month. It seems that during a routine complete blood count, it was discovered that my thyroid functioning is completely off. I've been having blood drawn repeatedly and had an ultrasound. So far, everything has been inconsistent with hyper or hypo thyroidism. It looks like I now have to go get an MRI of my pituitary gland to check for a tumor.

This seems to be an ongoing story with me. I feel great. I go to the doctor for "preventative care." I wind up having to spend beaucoup bucks on multiple tests because things don't align with what's "normal." The results turn out that they can't find anything wrong with me and I'm sent on my way with the words, "See you next year." Um, yeah right!

  2. Ugh!

I don't mind the doctor visits so much, but the 'something's-not-right-no-everything's-OK' routine would drive me stark raving nuts. . .

  4. Russ - Have fun!

Desmond - I'm definitely borderline right now. Of course, everytime I forget something, I'm now worried that I have a brain tumor.....

    Flutter - Thanks.

  5. I hope they get things squared away with you soon and you can stop the running around. Maybe while you're there next time, just randomly ask them if it's normal to wake up every day with a headache. That would save me a trip!

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism a few years ago, took meds, etc., etc., and yet they never ever wanted to draw my blood to check me, even though I had a friend who had the same thing and he was getting a blood draw almost every month. After a year on meds, they finally did check me and declared me cured, which, again, I thought was odd. I honestly think I am not cured, but the thought of going to the doctor keeps me from finding out!

  6. Maybe you need to see House (the guy on tv). He seems to cure everything....

  8. FADKOG - You should be on "Mystery Diagnosis." That is a strange medical story. I've always heard that you must be monitored frequently when on a thyroid med.

Be like me: google your headache problem and become even more paranoid!

Mike - If only life were as simple as TV!

Jody - I am all about relaxing this summer, the sooner the better.
