Guilty Pleasures

A fellow blogger got me thinking about guilty pleasures recently, and I guess I have a few. These are things I wouldn't normally be caught admitting to in public, but in blogosphere, I think it's safe to do some confessing.

Music - I like Journey...........I know! The first time I denied it was in college, when my punk rocker boyfriend asked me point-blank if I liked them, because he said they were a chick band and every girl he knew loved them. I lied and said my interests leaned more towards Joy Division and Lords of the New Church, bands I figured he was into. He was shocked! Now, I just hide my "Journey's Greatest Hits" CD from Husband and he is none the wiser.

Food - I like Hostess "bakery" goods. While Husband enjoys their fruit pies and Middle Child eats up the Twinkies, my craving is for those damn HoHo's (although I'd eat one of those pink coconut snowballs if they ever sold them in this area). I'll buy a box about once a year and revert back to childhood. I always peeled off the chocolate first, then unrolled the HoHo and licked the creme out of the middle. Ok, that sounds perverted........but you get the picture.

Movie - Nothing beats "Fast Times At Ridgemont High" for pure entertainment value. My favorite scene is when Sean Penn orders the pizza and has it delivered to the classroom. Gotta love Mr. Hand and Spicoli throughout and of course, the infamous pool scene. This is not a movie you want to watch with your teenaged children.

TV - Why would a 40-something be watching "Real World" you ask? It's embarrassing, but I just love that show. Although, some seasons are definitely more watchable than others. I'm not digging the Cancun season right now, but give me San Diego, New Orleans or Boston and I'll watch marathons of those locations. This is not a show I can chitchat about with anyone I know, being the sole viewer over age 35 I suppose. Maybe it's the fact that I moved into a house with six other stranger in college. And we definitely got real.......real nasty!

So, here's where you all can 'fess up and post your guilty pleasures..............we're listening and waiting...........

  1. OK. . . I have this love-hate relationship with John Denver, OK? Especially some of his early stuff, I like quite a lot. Before he morphed into The Screamer Whose Songs All Sound the Same. . .

And I once watched an entire season of Survivor, just to see what it was about. . . I'm so ashamed. . .

  2. Oh, mine are plastered all over my blog. The High School Musical movies. The Jonas Brothers. Shall I go on?

    :)

Also, let this be my way of standing in solidarity with you - Journey's Greatest Hits cd NEVER leaves my minivan. EVER!

(also? What? John Denver morphed into a screamer?!)

  3. Well... I lurv watching the Bachelor although this last season with our Canadian girl Jillian has been a let down.
My husband and I enjoy dipping McD's french fries in our chocolate milkshake, I know it sounds revolting, but I urge you to give it a go, you'll never be the same.
As for Journey, I think the TV show Glee has made them popular so throw off that cloak of shame Cocotte and be proud girl, you are ahead of your time!

  4. Ever listen to 'The Eagle and the Hawk'?

  5. Ohh, twinkies. Once a year I buy a box and eat it in one sitting.

I was never much of a Fast Times guy. I'd rather have anything by Zucker/Abrams/Zucker (Airplane, etc).

  6. Concerning your guilty pleasures:

Hostess Apple pies out of a vending machine. Mmm, the best. Although you make eating the HoHo's sound REALLY good... Or at least fun to watch.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High is a great movie, but man, I have a tough time being really entertained by it. It completely ruined Jackson Browne's "Somebody's Baby" for me. Every time I hear that song I think of that awful dugout scene. Not to mention, how can you have an abortion scene and call a movie a comedy?

Well, it's still got Phoebe Cates and Jennifer Jason Leigh. So there's that.

    Concerning MY guilty pleasures:

Hmm, I'm not sure I have any that I'm truly ashamed of. Even if it's potentially embarrassing, I'll own up to it. Just ask Fadkog how many times I've defended Hanson as real musicians (no, they AREN'T a boy band).

Early in my marriage, we had Celine Dion playing in the background during sex quite often. That's pretty embarrassing. That wasn't my choice though, I think my wife liked it.

  7. Des - There was a girl at my high school who looked like John Denver and she once performed as him in a talent show. She never lived that down. And I watched the Survivor season where it was the reunion of former players because my family made me.

FADKOG - You are correct. Your entire blog is one guilty pleasure after the next. That's why we love you!

Jody - Glad to see you again....and I thought of you last night while watching Big Brother!

Russ - You don't share the twinkies with Mr. B?

FTN - Yes, the abortion scene is the unfortunate part of the movie. But I do love the rest - Judge Reinhold in that pirate hat is priceless. But Celine? Ok, now THAT is truly humiliating.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Yeah! 'Survivor All-Star' - that was the one. . .

And listen, FTN - man up and don't go blamin' it on yer wife. You were makin' love to the sounds of Celine Dion, too. . . ;)

  9. Good to see you back at Dogs & Jeans Cocette.

I too enjoy Journey and will never Stop Believing.
In Canada we have the Hostess equivalent in Vachon snack cakes. my favorite are the Joe Louie devilsfood.

  10. And my current guitly pleasure is watching MMA. Go GSP!

  11. You and my wife would get along famously. She is a true Journey fan. I got to go with Starlight Vocal Band. Something about the harmony.

Food - Pork rinds. I know what the hell is a California boy doing to love that. Something about fried cripy pork flavor I can't get enough of.

Movie - Fast Times is a great choice. High school just like the one I went to. Probably why I like "Dazed and Confused".

TV - The train wreck that was Bret Michaels and his "Rock of Love." Boobs, rock and roll what's not to love...

  12. Des - College Daughter had a thing for "Boston Rob" and wanted to get me hooked as well.

Trooper - It's not fair that you use acronyms for your guilty pleasure....please translate!

Mike - Although I'll watch just about any reality show, I just couldn't do Rock of Love. Too many gross people!

  14. don't worry, my wife will join you in the over 35 Real World viewing group. She's a reality TV junkie.

    ReplyDelete
  15. So, when 'Boston Rob' proposed to 'Ambuh' on the finale, was yer daughter heartbroken?

    ReplyDelete
  16. M - Yeah! Does she blog too??

Des - She was rooting for them both and was happy about the wedding.

    ReplyDelete
  17. You are not alone!

Hi, I'm Rhonda, and I am a 39-year-old watcher of The Real World.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Rhonda - I feel so much better now! Thanks for stopping by! I like the B.S. Cafe and bookmarked it.

  19. A five-item meme. I can do this. Sometime this week, I promise.

Are hohos like Swiss cake rolls?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Agent - Looking forward to you memeing me! And yes, I believe the Little Debbie brand of swiss rolls are the same as HoHo's, although HoHos' are much better :)

  21. Music- There's probably a total of one of you that recalls any of C.W. McCall's works. I was the only person in the continental US to own allof his albums. At once. Until the FIL tossed them as junk when he helped us move ....

Food- Sorry to disappoint but its fresh grape tomatoes or fresh peas while I work the garden. And beans, don't forget the beans. Then again, there's something incredibly tasty about a fresh-plucked onion .... Mmmm.

Movie- Star Wars, any of 'em.

TV- Star Trek, any of 'em but DS9.

    ReplyDelete
  22. X - I had to google McCall; did he write that song "Convoy?" The fact that you had all his albums is odd, to say the least! But your other choices weren't all that embarrassing!

  23. My all-time favorite guilty pleasure has to have been sneaking frozen christmas baking out of my mom's deep freeze when I was younger.

Hard on the teeth, but soooooo good. Frozen butter tarts? That's the only way they should be eaten!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Flutter - Ok, now that's original!

    ReplyDelete
  25. i like journey too and i am not embarrassed to admit it.

i also like spongebob. the boy and i can often be found curled up together enjoying it.

    ReplyDelete
  26. LOL, I ♥ Journey, too ... and I don't care who knows it, lol -- Steve Perry has an AWESOME voice! (err... had one).

Hmmm... MY guilty pleasures?? -- dunno that they're "postable" here, lol, as they really ARE guilty pleasures. *ahem*. lol

    But, using your headers:

Music - My radio in my car is 9-times-out-of-10 tuned to the "Classic Rock" station.

Food - I'm a sucker for potato chips.

    Movie - Hmm. That one's tougher ...
I'm working on having a collection of every vampire movie ever to exist. LOL

Fun idea for a post! =)
