I cut the grass today and decided to mix things up a bit by listening to my son's ipod instead of my own. Wanted to see (hear) what he's been listening to lately. In between all the Ne-Yo and Lil Wayne "music," there were a couple of old school gems like Stairway To Heaven, Free Bird and Another Brick In the Wall. I'm guessing Husband must have been giving him some musical pointers on those long drives to tennis camp everyday.
But the real surpise came when I had this blaring loud and clear above the lawn mower:
People were probably wondering why I had such a big smile on my face, while pushing that mower. You've got to love a 14 year old boy caught between childhood and wanting to be cool.

entirely too cool :) I approve of most of the music. NeYo? not for me thanks :)
ReplyDeleteIt's cool when you catch your kids liking your music, isn't it? All my kids are Beatles fans (I have a blood pact with 2F that, the next time Sir Paul comes around, we're going together).
ReplyDeleteAnd, when I made my 'Classic Rock' mix CD, all three of my teen boys 'stole it' to download all the songs into their ipods. . .
(*wiping a tear*)
lol, my son would add this to his ipod too i think. right between pink floyd, rihanna, and weird al yankovic. hehehe
ReplyDeleteWell someone is going to have to tell me what song it is we're talking about, so I can register my amusement as well. Youtube and other Flash sites are blocked at work, so I can't see it.
ReplyDeleteI was blissfully unaware of most of the children's references, particularly the Floyd.
ReplyDeleteMatt - I agree on the NeYo...that's why I had big air quotes around the word "music."
ReplyDeleteDes - Not too often does it happen around here.
Lime - I believe our sons have similar tastes in music!
FTN - I sent you an e-mail.
Russ - Haha.
Kool, so I ain't the only one ....
ReplyDeleteLooney parents around here think it crosses some magical line to check out what their kids are in to. Freaks!
Sensible is almost all christian all-the-time. Oddkin is a mix of Christian, Frank, Dean, and Tony.
Speaking of crossing lines, my ver is undiess!
I mentioned to my 15 year old that I'd seen a video of the top 10 happy songs which had left me cold and when I listed Sponge Bob's "Fun Song" he said, "But that is a happy song!"
ReplyDeleteLOL, too cute.
ReplyDeleteI remember that "caught inbetween" stage of adolescence well. Damn, it was awkward.
But, it woulda made ME smile real big to catch a glimpse of you mowing when that song popped up. =)
SpongeBob gets two thumbs up at our house.
ReplyDeleteMy kids and I went camping this weekend to "The Best of Journey". And they really did have some 'best'. Honestly.
ReplyDeleteI love me some SpongeBob. In my mind, it's this generations Loony Tunes.
ReplyDeleteThere was a SpongeBob marathon on Nick over the weekend and you have no idea how tempting it was to just sit and watch for hours. But alas, I had things to do.
My daughter is still very much into young "kid" music (she doesn't even really like Hannah Montana, and she's only slightly interested in High School Musical). But she listens to some of those Kids Bop CDs that drive me crazy... A bunch of pop songs and rap with choirs of kids singing them. It's terribly annoying. If I don't like a song in the first place, it's 10x worse to listen to it sung by a choir of kids.
Oh, Trooper, you reminded me of the time we went camping, and ended up next to a bunch of college kids for a WHOLE WEEK, who, as far as we could tell, brought exactly ONE CD with them - the Rolling Stones' 'Through the Past, Darkly'. Now, I like the Stones as much as anyone. But by about the third day, I'd had about all the 'Paint It Black' that I needed for the next five years or so. . .
ReplyDeleteOh, and FTN, don't even get me started on 'The Chipmunks Sing the Beatles'. . .
X - It's always good to see what the kidz are up to these days.
ReplyDeleteAgent - Doesn't SpongeBob put a smile on your face?
LB - I was cracking up when I heard the lyrics, "Spent two hours just tying my shoelace" cuz yeah, I like to waste time!
Rhonda - Have a favorite episode?
Trooper - I actually have that CD!
FTN - I caught some of that marathon.....wanted to see my fave episode - "Bubble Buddy" and I feel your pain with Kidz Bop....couldn't even unload those damn things at my garage sales!
Desmond - My neighbor had ONE Pink Floyd 8 track and I was forced to listen to that over and over if I wanted a ride to school with him.
Fourteen is an awkward time in a boy's life.
ReplyDeleteI'm scared to check out my daughter's ipod. God only knows what music (?) is on that thing....
I would die of Taylor Swift overdose if I borrowed my 14 year-olds iPod. And I do mean DIE. It would be an ugly mess. I will not risk it. That girl has BAD TASTE in music. I bet there is even a Chipmunk song on there. *shivers*
ReplyDeleteMike - It can indeed be frightening to check out a kid's ipod. But I do think it's good for them to waste their own $ on bad music and learn a lesson!
ReplyDeleteLaggin - Did she perchance enjoy the Wiggles at an earlier age?
No! I've grown to dislike SpongeBob!
