No Second Chances

(Warning: This is just a weird post. I have no idea why this deserves a post, but please just humor me.)
Foods/Beverages that have induced vomiting once and that I have never consumed again:
Tuna Steak
Pork Roast
Pistachios
Spanish Peanuts
Screwdrivers
7&7's
French Dressing (the pale orange kind)

Foods that have not made me sick, but that frighten me into thinking that I could possibly get sick, therefore I will not eat:
Sushi
Basically, any Raw Meat
Clams/Oysters
Bleu Cheese
Black Walnuts
Organ "Meat"
Cheese In A Can
Venison/Pheasant (gamey meat in general)
Duck

  1. Not a big fan of the nuts, huh?

And, uh. . . just how many screwdrivers, or 7&7s are we talkin', that induced vomiting? Just wonderin'. . .

When I was a kid, sauerkraut made me puke without fail, but I'm fine with it now. Still can't eat beets in any form, tho. . .

  2. I can go with everything but cheese in a can. I don't eat cheese in a can, but I think I would love cheese in a can. Thus, it must stay out of my house.

Several years ago, I ate a salad with balsamic dressing on it and then came down with something shortly after. Balsamic dressing is not so good that go 'round. I've never been able to eat it again since. I sort of miss it, but then I remember why, and I get over the longing pretty fast!

  3. Pistachios? I'm beginning to feel like I don't know you anymore ....

    Sigh.

  4. I love you despite my disappointment.

And word verif is "warpo". How wonderful is THAT?

  5. Des - I actually love nuts, but have only had problems with the ones listed. I actually overdid it with the pistachios and that's what made me sick. The drinks - I'd say about 4 of each; separate incidents.

Oddly enough, I have no problems with sauerkraut or beets. Ok, only buttered beets, not those nasty ones in the red sauce that comes in jars.

FADKOG - Something is just wrong about cheese in a can. I'm sorry about your balsamic troubles because that's my favorite dressing. My french dressing incident happened with "morning" (all day) sickness with my first born.

Xavier - See my comment to Des. I USED to really like them.

Laggin - Thank you for the love! I've often been told my humor is warped.

  6. Cocotte, Cocotte, Cocotte. You, my friend, are not living. I will look the other way on the first list as I can understand the reaction. It wasn't until the last year or two that I could drink vodka again (the great vodka blackout of '92 might have had something to do with that).

To not try something because you might not like it, however, is unacceptable. Sushi, for instance, is nothing more than vinegar and rice, that happens to be frequently paired with fresh fish, but it can be paired with cooked items as well.

Cheeze in a can, is not cheese (thus the 'z') and cannot be considered foodstuff and thus gets a pass.

Duck is one of lifes great pleasures! I have a duck breast recipe that is out of this world, should you wish to venture out of your comfort zone.

  7. A lot of meat products on that list! I don't think I have anything to put on either list with the possible exception of cooked mushrooms, which make me gag.

  8. Russ - It's not that I may not like it; it's that I think it's going to make me puke! Sushi - well, I don't like rice, so cold rice and raw seafood is a no go. Duck? I don't care for turkey (I think it's gamey), so the thought of duck and the added grease factor just frightens me.

Agent - I do have a fear factor with meat - it must be cooked and can't be gamey or slimy. Mushrooms do not scare me - don't you like mushroom pizza?

  9. Mmm...

While I love some of those things just a little bit, the mere thought of others made me throw up, just a little bit, in my mouth ;)

(Oh, and my captcha? Mintsive... a cure perhaps?)

  10. Ya know, I usually have a period of about one year in which I won't eat something that made me violently ill. After a year or so, I'm sort of like, "Eh, that sounds good, I think I could go for the chicken salad again."

Or, if it's something I usually like, that time span is more like... a week.

I should also mention that bleu cheese is awesome with anything. Salad, chicken wings, whatever.

  11. Zip - Thanks for popping in!

FTN - I've tried bleu cheese a few times. It smells and tastes like vomit to me. I just don't get the appeal.

  13. I am the same with screwdrivers. As a matter of fact, it took a couple of years before I could even handle plain orange juice again. And vodka? Not to this day.
