1. What have you spent on any one child for one sport per year? Why?
That's a loaded question in this house. We currently spend over $500/month for my son's tennis. That is for private lessons, group lessons, court fees, and USTA tourney fees. And his racquets aren't cheap either. He's been playing for over six years and has a fairly high ranking in our region. As to the why, Husband comes from very athletic stock. You don't play unless you work on being the very best. He thinks that playing sports enhances self esteem, promotes team work, etc. College Daughter was also a super star at her sport and I will admit, she is the most confident, self-propelled (is that a word?) 20 year old that I know. I never played a sport, so I don't really care all that much about it, nor do I attend many of my son's matches. It would be a full-time job and Middle Child has special needs that require my extra time/attention.
2. If you had 24 hours to do anything you wanted, paid for by someone anonymous, what would you do?
I'd take Husband with me and fly to San Francisco, rent a limo to take us to Napa Valley, visit wineries all day and then have dinner at The French Laundry, followed by a stay at The Cottage Grove Inn and a flight back home in the morning.
3. Would you prefer to save a baby trapped in a car seat underwater or a paraplegic in a wheelchair on the 2nd floor of a burning house?I have to go with the burning house victim because I'm a lousy swimmer and probably couldn't break a car window to get to the baby. I'd have a better chance saving someone in a burning house.
4. Would you attend the wedding of a gay acquaintance to his/her partner if it was a convenient day/time/place? This would be a moot question, since almost all of my gay 'friends'/relatives blew me off after adopting an alternative lifestyle. And the only one who hasn't just ended a horrific relationship with her live-in girlfriend and will probably go back to men. At this stage of life, it's more likely I'll be invited to friends' children's weddings, so yes, I would attend to support my friend (parent) of the bride/groom/partner/whatever they want to be called.
5. When was the last time you did something for someone else that meant going out of your way? Last week, I literally drove out of my way to another town to pick up a friend's son to take him to the driver's ed place with my son that is just around the corner from my house. My friend was doing something for a relative that day and I was more than happy to help her out. Besides, I'm on the road almost all day in the summer, so what's an extra half hour?
Now for my questions:
1. What holiday do you despise and wish it would be eliminated from the calendar?
2. Name one thing you wish you would have known back in high school and how would this have changed your life?
3. What 'famous person' annoys you the most and why?
4. Did you ever try to influence your child (children) to read a certain book? What book was it and what was your reason?
5. What's your favorite time of day and what do you do at that time?
1) Halloween; or Valentine's Day. . .
ReplyDelete2) I wish I'd known then just how really, really overrated 'coolness' is; would've saved me a lot of anxiety. . .
3) Now that Michael Jackson is dead, I suppose you won't let me pick him any more. . . But heck, that's just too easy anyway, ain't it? I am really, really, really tired of hearing about Tiger Woods and his Magical Mistress Tour, and his divorce, and anything else he does in his free time; how's that?
4) I've encouraged my kids to read lots of books. I suppose the Chronicles of Narnia would be right near the top of the list; good stories that make some solid points in thoughtful ways. . .
I did go to the wedding of a dear friend to her partner, so that question would have been an easy one for me. My older son went (he was about 6) and his only question was if they'd only be able to have daughters.
ReplyDeleteI'd do away with Valentine's Day in a heartbeat. :-)
Craig - Well, you could have used your comments for a post, but glad to hear your answers anywhere! I always felt sorry for Michael Jackson rather than annoyed. People like smug faced John Edwards are who really annoy the cr@p out of me!
ReplyDeleteAgent - Your son's question actually makes a lot of sense! I must be unusual in that V Day is my favorite holiday. I tend to dread Thanksgiving, followed by Mother's Day.
cocette, your answer to two is perfect!
ReplyDeleteRuss - We stayed at Cottage Grove Inn for our 20th anniversary and it was heaven. I'd only go to French Laundry if someone else paid though.
ReplyDeleteWhat is this kids reading thing you speak of?
ReplyDelete;)
I spend a big chunk of my summer begging and cajoling my kids to PLEASE read for at least 30 minutes a day. I'm not asking for miracles, or that they read two novels in a day like I did last Saturday because I was irritated at life here and a bit bored. I just want them to crave, even a little bit, every little thing a book can offer. Call me crazy!
I've never been to SF, but would love to go some day. Years ago, my husband and I went to San Diego, and I'd loved to go back there and take in all the things we missed out on, but I'd press my luck for a week's worth of time instead of 24 hours!
I'll go for the fire, lol- After all, I am a volly firefighter, so I'm equipped to deal with that!
ReplyDeleteGreat answers, fun :)
Oh, and ty for stopping by :)
ReplyDeleteFADKOG - I've always loved to read. Sadly, none of my kids share my enthusiasm.
