If your family is anything like mine, once something is heard that is the least bit amusing, it gets repeated over and over again. Welcome to my slice of Vegas!'There's no crying in Vegas' - what I said in Utah to Middle Child who was suffering from homesickness and the lack of cell phone service, and who kept telling me she'd be okay once we got back to Vegas. (She also has autism, so we try to cut her some slack, but by the 7th day in a row of random crying, my nerves were worn thin). In her defense, she didn't cry in Vegas (thanks to the familiarity of it, seeing relatives, and of course, uninterrupted cell phone service).
'Son of a sea lion!' - Overheard by my kids from some random Dad on the street. This one got constant play for the first few weeks, but they seem to have let it go by the wayside.
'Big man doesn't even like the music' - said to my son (who was following the rest of us single file) outside Planet Hollywood. Some rapper was out front trying to hand us his latest CD and we shunned him. My 6 foot 15 year old son must have surprised him by not taking it. After three days of being hounded by the wall of Mexicans on the strip distributing porn to anyone who looks over the age of 12, you develop the stare straight ahead/don't make eye contact walk, normally only used in bad sections of Brooklyn! My son's 'big sisters' have gotten plenty of mileage out of this one.
'Nobody likes a cheap wiener' - said by Middle Child, who was happy to see so many Nathan outlets in Vegas! If you knew the innocence of this child, you'd know how truly hilarious the comment was. I personally can't stop saying it!
'Up and At 'Em, Mother F*%$#ers!!!!!!!!' - Heard at 4:30 a.m. outside our room at the MGM Grand on our last morning. Did I mention how Vegas is really only fun for about the first 24 hours? Thanks for following me along to the conclusion of this vacation 2010 series.
Trying to catch up on blog reading after being out of circulation for so long. Sounds like quite the epic trip!! I'm inspired to check out some of those sites with my family! (we may pass on Vegas, though... *eek*)
ReplyDeleteI love how those random memories or funny/surprising/shocking moments become part of the group recollection and the source of laughs and entertainment for years to come. There's still things like that that my family goofs around about to this day! Way to make memories with your family, Cocotte!
would have so loved to open that door and put the smackdown on that idiot. Someone did that to me in Orlando and I think I put the fear of god into him just by opening the door and glaring at his idiot face.
ReplyDeleteWake me up in the middle of the night? Yeah, not such a good idea. A pissed off grizzly ain't half as grumpy ;)
Cool quotes.
Let it be known now that each of these phrases is going into immediate rotation around my house and/or job as they fit, and honestly, I think we can all agree "No one likes a cheap weiner!" has a lot of traction!
ReplyDeleteI hafta tell ya, Vegas is high on my list of places that I don't really care if I never get to. . .
ReplyDeleteBut my mother just abso-freakin-lutely LOVES the place. Go figure. . .
Flutter - And I'd love to see the sights in the North someday! Gotta love those family memories/stories.
ReplyDelete@M - Hotel hallway idiots seem to make an appearance just about everywhere.
FADKOG - My kids won't even touch an Oscar Meyer wiener! Glad to add to your repertoire!
Craig - We are veterans, thanks to relatives and Husband's business travels to Sin City. Have seen some fabulous shows and enjoyed the hotel opulence, but it gets old rather quickly.
Nobody likes a cheap wiener. I think that speaks for itself.
ReplyDeletewow, I went to Vegas and all I got was a lousy t shirt.
ReplyDeleteokay, yeah i'm lying--I've never been to Vegas
What has been heard cannot be unheard.
ReplyDeleteI hate cheap wieners myself. I also don't like hotdogs.
Em - Doesn't it, though?
ReplyDeleteJK - Everyone should go once, just to be annoyed.
Agent - My kids are hot dog snobs, truthfully.
Ooooohhhhh. . . you're talkin' about hot dogs. . .
ReplyDeleteAll your photos and trips through the national parks are great...something I have longed to do some day...and some day...I will....
ReplyDelete"... it woudl be the right thing to do"
