There was a time when I believed the only 'good' pizza out there was Chicago-style deep dish with loads of sauce and cheese. I still love it, but could do without all those excess calories. I also would never have dreamed that I'd find a frozen pizza worth buying. Those times have changed. This pizza to my left is tasty and delicious. Cracker crisp crust and all.To go along with your pizza, may I offer you a glass of this fine California red table wine? I'm happy to report my appreciation for wine has graduated from the white zinfandel days of the 1990's. Although Menage A Trois is a tacky name, it truly is a good wine for the price ($12-15 range). If you should stop by, I promise to always have a bottle available.
The past ten years have led me to a new apreciation for non-fiction. Whether I'm howling at David Sedaris or intrigued by escapes from fundamental mormon polygamy, I have found a lot of pleasure in true life. The book I recently couldn't put down was The Glass Castle. Jonathan Franzen has nothing on this dysfunctional family. I've recommended it to a dozen people, but some have said it was too dark and unreadable for them. Ironically, I found it to be inspiring, proving that despite your circumstances, you can still make something of yourself in America.
As a working girl, I only purchased department store cosmetics. As a SAHM, it was just easier and less expensive to buy drugstore cosmetics. I'm still picky about the brand; it can have no discernible odor whatsoever. When I discovered E.L.F. last year, I was amazed. It is super cheap (all products are either $1, $3, or $5) and I can't find anything wrong with it. Even the sizes seem comparable to other brands, so it's not like it's just less product for a smaller price. How have you changed in the past decade (or two)?
"Deep Dish Pizza" is pizza in name only! If it ain't NY style thin crust, it's just bread, sauce, and cheese. That won't change.
ReplyDeleteGlass Castle was a truly bazaar book. It was uplifting, but her parents were not quite right.
Russ - Ok, but that NY style thin crust that flops down when you hold it is just soggy bread, not pizza!
ReplyDeleteThe father in the story seemed almost borderline genius, which made his actions and lack of accountability fascinating.
So. . . You're sayin' if we come visit, we can have a Menage-a-Trois? . . . (I know. . . and I really do think threesome jokes are crude and tacky in the extreme) (really). . .
ReplyDeleteAnd you know, pizza is one of those things that left my life when I decided I needed to lose weight. . . (but when I did, I was right there with you on the deep-dish) (I get such a kick out of the provinciality of New Yorkers, tho, don't you? ;) )
I really don't see all that many drastic changes in my life over the past decade or two. Mainly, I've learned not to freak out so much when life buffets me about the head and shoulders. . .
Craig - Not freaking out is something I'm still working on.
ReplyDeleteBut yeah...those damn New Yorkers...
A few months ago, I picked up e.l.f.'s 100 eye shadow kit and use it every day, and I adore it! What a value for $10, and the product is just as good as any other quasi-expensive brand I'd have purchased before. Plus, it's been a great, inexpensive way to try shades I may not have before.
ReplyDeleteMany of the same changes. I now buy my makeup in drugstores, and have happily left sweet white zins behind for earthier reds. And I've had the Menage a Trois and liked it. If you happen to come across Gnarly Head old vine red zinfandel you might give it a try. It's remarkably good for about $8 a bottle. I'll have to look for that pizza - it's hard to find good frozen pizza without meat on it!
ReplyDeleteThe last decade or two I have learned to stand up for myself and enjoy life, there are things I can't change, and it's not worth trying.
ReplyDeleteSausage, Pepperoni, and Cashew Pizza from the New York Pizzeria is about the best you can get, if they could put that in a freezer box my freezer would be full :)
FADKOG - That is a good deal! I love their white eye highlighter/concealer wand for $3.
ReplyDeleteAgent - My grocer carries Gnarly Head, so I will look for your recommendation and let you know! Palermo's has a Margherita pizza with tomato and basil. It was too much basil for me, but you may like it.
Jimmy - I have never heard of cashews on pizza. That doesn't sound appealing, but I guess you never know until you try it!
For pizza I've always preferred something in between. Deep dish ends up a soggy mess, particularly the next day and new york style is kinda like toppings on a slab of cardboard.
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to wine we're kinda new to it all but Americana Crystal Lake is refreshing as is North Carolina Strawberry. Peach isn't so bad either!.
And for the record, reading's not (often) for me. I seldom sit that long unless working and, since work IS sitting for me, I play standing up.
Now as far as cosmetics are concerned I'm surrounded by Avon. And that is all I've got to say about that.
X - Sorry to say, but if strawberry or peach is in the name, I won't be drinking that koolaid!
ReplyDeleteSeriously? I mean, I understand the peach but to turn up your nose at strawberry? There's gotta be a story behind that!! :-)
ReplyDeletehow have i changeD? well i got wider, greyer and acquired a professional wardrobe. lol
