Can't Stop the Music

I'm stealing this idea from Flutter.  Not sure if I'll do all 30 days, and it certainly won't be consecutive, but here goes with the first three days:

DAY 1 - My favorite song.  I'm going to go with my current favorite; it is too hard to chose an all time favorite.  However, this is my favorite singer (sorry Bono).  I love everything about Brandon Flowers:  his voice, his perfomance, his lyrics.  Love, love, love him!

DAY 2 -  A song I hate.  Really, I could have substituted any Billy Joel song here.  There's nothing I like about the guy or his cheesy, 1950's style music.  Apologies if you are a fan.  I know he is well liked and talented.  It's just not my style.

Day 3 - A song that makes me happy.  Here's a song that never fails to put me in a good mood.  I've always loved The Talking Heads and David Byrne is just enough of a weirdo to crack me up.  Whenever I hear this song, I'm ready to party like it's 1984.

  1. Oh, watching all three of these videos brought back soooooooo many memories for me - I had a flashback!

Now, I am a Billie Joel fan but I have to agree with you about 'Uptown Girl'...it SUCKS.

    BIG TIME CHEESY!

  3. I had not even heard of the first one. I'm a bit burned out on Billy Joel. My college roommate was a huge fan and I can no longer stand his music.

I do love the Talking Heads. Most of their songs make me smile. Squeeze does that for me too.

  4. So - what is it about 1984 that makes it a benchmark for partying?

I mean, my Tigers won the World Series, but I know you're not so much of a sports fan, so I was just wondering. . . ;)

  5. Russ - I bet you do know him; he's the lead singer of The Killers,

Craig - Well, the song was from 1984, but that was a great year for me as well.....start of my senior year of college and the year I met my spouse.

  6. Fun idea :)

I'll disagree with ya on Billy Joel though, but not on this song, stupidest thing...

Fun to hear them all though!

  7. I didn't even know that Flowers had gone solo... I hope this is just a side project and not the end of the Killers! I, too, love his voice and the uniqueness he lends to his songs. He's one of those performers that will never be lost in a crowd -- when you hear one of his songs, you know it's him!

I'm not a big fan of Billy Joel, but there are a couple of his songs that I do like. Uptown Girl is not one of them!!

Thanks for joining in! I'm totally enjoying doing this on my blog -- it's amazing all the memories that come pouring back when you hear songs you haven't heard in a while!

  8. Talking Heads takes me back to college/grad school.

I liked the old Billy Joel when he was melancholy and a little angry. But Uptown Girl was just one of the songs of utter suckage he started recording later.

  9. This frees up Bono for me, so thank you for that!

I don't even have to think about my most hated song. It's 'Old Time Rock and Roll' by Bob Seger. Good lord, I loathe that song...followed closely by Billy Idol's cover of 'Mony, Mony.' Puke.

  10. "The Talking Heads and David Byrne is just enough of a weirdo to crack me up" I'm with you and actually have this one burned onto a disc with other favs I listen to :)

  11. Sailor - I know that Joel has quite the following. I could just never understand it!

Flutter - The Killers are alive and well, have no fear!

Agent - Talking Heads takes me back to the same time frame. Good, good times.

FADKOG - Good call on the Seger - that is truly a hated song for me as well! But I don't mind the Idol.

Jimmy - 'Psycho Killer' always makes me laugh aloud, esp. the part where he says, 'Psycho Killer
    Qu'est-ce que c'est?'

  12. OK, 'Old Time Rock 'n' Roll' isn't Seger's finest moment. But we love him up here in The Mitten. . .
