Our next day began with a wonderful breakfast, again overlooking the harbor. I had a bruschetta omelet, full of fresh basil, tomatoes and mozzarella. It was divine. We decided to make a full circle around Seneca Lake that day. One of our first stops was at this newly opened winery, Magnus Ridge. It was beautiful and seemed very European. The inside was just as stunning and sold a lot of really neat wine paraphernalia.
To give us a break from wine, we also stopped at Wagner Brewery. This was my first beer 'tasting' and I've come to the conclusion that maybe I just don't like beer that much. Of the eight that we tried, I didn't care for any of them. The first was a Pilsner, and I found it to be watery. I thought I'd like their IPA, but that was entirely too hoppy for me. Most of them were too dark for my taste. Although I did get a kick out of the flavors we were to find (banana, spiced ham) because you really could taste them. I guess I'll stick with my Blue Moon and Killian's.
When we got to the top of the lake, we stopped at this castle to walk around and enjoy the grounds. It sat right along the lake and housed a winery, two restaurants and a hotel and banquet room. What a lovely place for a wedding reception!
My favorite stop of the day was Billsboro Winery. Isn't the outside quaint? They offered a wine and chocolate tasting. The chocolates were wonderful little treasures with additions like candied ginger and rosemary. Incredible with the wines they were paired with. Oh, and I guess I should mention one of them was chocolate covered bacon!
Our day concluded at our final destination, a winery and inn. All the rooms overlooked the vineyard and lake. This was looking out one direction from our deck. We had a fabulous anniversary dinner that evening on their expansive deck and the weather was perfect. The next day, we traveled back home to reality. Boo!

Somehow, 'wine paraphernalia' made me smile. . . Do you have to hide it from the cops?
ReplyDeleteI've decided I really like the 'hoppy' beers (I'm getting the impression that you and I might have a hard time agreeing on a place to have lunch ;) ). I wonder - are they anything like what the Brits call 'bitters'?
Chocolate with ginger or rosemary just sounds really interesting. . .
Taken all together, it sounds like a wonderful trip, and altogether worthy of a Silver Anniversary.
Congratulations, again!
Excellent! Sounds like a wonderful time, congrats to you :)
ReplyDeleteOMG...that photo of the castle literally took my breath away!
ReplyDeleteHow STUNNING!
Yes, I can definitely see that as being a great place for a wedding reception!
I'm with you, I'm not big on the taste of beer. But what's strange is that I love the SMELL of beer.

Oh my word, that sounds beyond yummy!
And what a flawless view from your deck! Love the how the clouds look.
This whole weekend sounded utterly heavenly!
Thanks for sharing. I totally enjoyed these posts!

not a beer drinker here but wines and chocolate? sign me up for that!
ReplyDeleteDunno how you done it but I only recognized one of those places, that being the castle. Went there once for wine tasting and another time for a business banquet. It's a great place .... though the wine was a disappointment.
ReplyDeleteAfter all that you went home? No doubt to sell the house and put your affairs in order to move back, no?
That sounded like an awesome vacation. No stress and lots of wine. Doesn't get much better.
ReplyDeleteHi Bijoux,
ReplyDeleteThis all sounds like a beautiful end to your anniversary trip.
I will admit to sipping an occasional beer when it is hot, but it is not my daily routine :)I would rather have a glass or white wine.
You were right to enjoy and indulge yourselves!
Craig - The only time I've had bitters was Angostura on a sugar cube in champagne. Thank you for your kind wishes.
ReplyDeleteSailor - Thank you, friend.
Ron - I like the smell of beer too and enjoy a frosty mug of it. Just not a German style!
Lime - Red wine and dark chocolate is divine together.
ReplyDeleteX - We didn't try their wine, just got out of the car to walk around the property. It was lovely.
Russ - I know, right??
Barb - Thank you so much!
But all those hops help prevent osteoporosis. Seriously. Pale Ales and IPAs have the most silicon, which builds bone. I have a preference for lagers, but since i read about that, I've made the switch.
ReplyDeleteYou took some really great photos...And I'm jealous of all the tastings.
ReplyDeleteAgent - I do like some pale ales, but not if they make me shiver or wince when I swallow.
ReplyDeleteLeslie - It's been difficult getting back to reality, let me tell you.
