Recently, the Targets in this area started carrying wine and other assorted liquor. I picked up a bottle two weeks ago and was surprised at the register when the girl asked me for my ID. I was excited for about five seconds, until I saw her swipe my license in a card reader. Oh. I guess they ask everyone for their ID at Target. Darn!
My disappointment didn't last for long, however. Today, I was shopping at my regular grocery store, and decided to pick up a variety of wines for the holidays. The bottles were all laying in the seat by my purse. I pull my cart up to the register and the girl immediately says to me, "I'll need to see some ID for the wine." I laughed and asked her if they are now asking everyone for their ID, like they do at Target. She just looked at me and said, "No. I have to ask you if you look under 35."
Well, hot damn! I whipped out my wallet and said to her, "I'm 48! Bam! My kids would think you're WACK!" She looked at my ID and said, really sassy, "Well, I think you're kids are WACK! You look really young!"
I can now proceed on to a great weekend.

Sweet! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteI stopped getting carded when my beard started going gray. . .
Very nice ....
ReplyDeleteRegardless of the laws around these parts saying otherwise I have never been carded. They've never even been tempted. But I'm OK with that.
Were that ME, she'd be instantly on not only my Christmas card list, but my pressie one too!
ReplyDeleteThere was once a day when I LOVED being mistaken for older than I am, but that was more than a few decades ago (sigh)..
"She just looked at me and said, "No. I have to ask you if you look under 35."
ReplyDeleteYou GO, girl!!!!! What a great compliment!

HAHAHAAHAHAHA! OMG, how funny!
Isn't something how younger people often think of the 40's as being old???
Yeah, just wait until THEY get there - HA!
GREAT post, my young friend!

Hi Bijoux,
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see you again. I am back and doing my blog rounds with pleasure.
It's nice to see you back blogging, too :)
That line line was such a hoot! A great booster for ya!!
I did Targets several times, careful to NOT bring home useless but attractive stuff. I can't miss Target each time back(no Targets in France!).
Craig - I don't think Husband has been carded since the '80's.
ReplyDeleteX - Most men don't care about stuff like this. Or at least they claim not to :)
Shrinky - I know! I should compliment her to management for her fine service!
Ron - My son's first question to me, after I relayed the story to him was, "How old was this person?" I think he thought the woman was a senior citizen or something......LOL! FTR, she was probably around age 30.
Barb - I would have a difficult time without a Target. Where do you go to buy 'stuff'??
Sweet. And I'm so jealous that you ca buy wine in Targets and grocery stores. No such luck here - we have to go to a package store. (Where, as far as I can tell, they card no one.)
ReplyDeleteI bet that was a nice little pick me up! I stopped getting carded when my hair became more gray than brown.
ReplyDeleteAgent - Is a package store the same as our state liquor store? One local grocery chain claims to carry 1500 different wines. Of course, you pay more for the convenience!
ReplyDeleteRuss - Do they still sell Grecian Formula for Men??
ReplyDeleteYep, quite true but I find it amusing that our state supposedly requires everyone to be carded regardless of apparent age yet I have never been ...... :-)
ReplyDeleteThere's no state liquor store here, just privately owned stores that sell wine and liquor. (And beer, too, but you can get that in the grocery stores.)
ReplyDeleterock on wit ya own young looking self!
ReplyDeleteHere they are required to card you if you look under 40. I get carded pretty regularly. Gets me hyped every time. (I'm 48 too) :)
ReplyDeleteBut now I wonder if I'd get carded if they changed it to 35.
