......wait a few hours. At least that's what they say in these parts. We've been blessed with a mild winter thus far. Prior to today, I only had to shovel the driveway once and get out the snowblower once. Talk about a great November and December! We shall see what the rest of the winter holds. I do recall a particularly nasty ice storm the last week of April one year, where we lost power for a few days. Yet, I still celebrate what was a wonderful week of January (pictures taken two days ago):
Bulbs not just peeking through the ground, but gaining quite a bit of height!
A stray pansy that I didn't plant surfaced in our front yard and enjoyed some January sunshine.
A happy squirrel poses for me. He hasn't had much trouble finding food this winter.
Remnants of the January 2nd snowstorm; proof that even though it's sunny, temps still haven't risen much above 40 degrees.
Current conditions: Old Man Winter isn't done with us yet!
Just please don't give me any alarmist 'global warming' stuff, 'K?
ReplyDeleteThis latest warm spell has been nice, hasn't it? I've already got 39 miles on my bike in 2012, and 56 since Christmas Eve. . .
But no, Old Man Winter isn't done w/us by a long shot. I've seen too many blizzards in March/April to think we're just gonna go straight into spring. . .
You must be in the same storm belt that I am! (Shoveled 4 to 5 inches of heavy crap this morning. yuck) I always say that Mother Nature is a real bitch. Would anyone but a woman change her mind so often?
ReplyDeleteIt has been a mild winter, we were about due for on after several of the nastier sort here. I have yet to break out the snow blower or even a shovel, have been able to use the push-broom to clear the traces so far. Well, except for this morning's tree anyhow.
ReplyDeleteYikes, the weather's gone crazy over your end! What great pic's, I think pansies are my favourite of flowers - reminds me of the garden I played in as a kid. I particularly love the one of the squirrel - I miss them - this isle I now live in doesn't have any (pout).
ReplyDeleteWe had one little dusting of snow with some frozen early morning roads so far but that's about it. Today, lots of wind! I love the change of seasons and will enjoy winter for a little bit when it finally kicks in but I'm not fond of alot of snow. A light pretty snowfall yes, blizzards NO! We get them, but luckily not every year.
ReplyDeleteHasn't this been the STRANGEST winter?
ReplyDeleteEven my friends in Europe are saying the same thing.
Heck, yesterday it was in the high 60's here, yet today it's in the teens and blistery windy.
I know I'm in the MAJOR minority when it comes to winter but I truly love it, so I would really like a good snowfall at least once this year.
GREAT photos! The one of the pansy is really awesome. And the one of the squirrel is so CUTE! It made me smile from ear to ear - I adore squirrels!
"I do recall a particularly nasty ice storm the last week of April one year, where we lost power for a few days."
We experience the same thing last April. Sometimes April can be very 'up and down' with the weather.
Have a wonderful weekend, my friend!
X
Craig - I welcome global warming, with open arms! I've also been able to get out and walk just about every day this year. I'd say I'm at about 30 miles on foot!
ReplyDeleteMe - Bitch or Bastard! You pick! We also got about 5 inches today - and yes, it was clogging the damn snowblower the whole time!
X - I'm guessing it's heading your way. Expect high winds and drifting, but really, 5 inches isn't that much snow. They keep calling it a 'Winter Wallop' on the news and husband and I keep laughing.
Shrinky - I've always loved pansies too. Reminds me of being a kid too! I love their little faces.
Chick - I've had my fill, after living in a secondary snowbelt for 23 years. If I never saw snow again, I'd be fine with it!
Ron - Ok, Mr. Snow Miser! I'm sending this weather your direction. Get out the shovel! Enjoy your cold weekend and I'll stop by your blog on Monday to see how you enjoyed it! Mwah!
ReplyDeleteHi Bijoux,
ReplyDeleteOver in the Paris burbs, January has been mild so far, and just with rain. No snow yet in the plains.
A very nice weather photo show! I liked your furry visitor :)
The weather was more typical last January; I was shoveling snow!
P.S. The temps have been dropping since yesterday( 41 F & sunny forcasted in the p.m. for Paris)
Happy weekend!
Well, forecast says by the time it reaches us there'll not even be 5 inches. That's barely enough around here to warrant the snow blower, hardly a wallop but then you knew that already.
ReplyDeleteWe're just getting frigid .... will be down under 10 tonight, down closer to 0 tomorrow night. Woodstove izza crankin!
it's been mild in PA too....until this week.
ReplyDeleteBarb - I'm reminded of my jr. high french class drill, "Quel temps fait-il?"....."Il fait froid!"
ReplyDeleteX - Stay warm!
Lime - This Sunday is supposed to be 50 degrees - we'll see!
We're forecast for an inch of snow starting sometime tomorrow. An inch in the middle of January - the first measurable snowfall we've had so far. I'm trying hard not to be put out by this after such a mild season so far!
ReplyDeleteI have throughly enjoyed the warm spell...however it is definitely on its way out. The last few days have been so cold I keep wishing for the winter to be over. I am dreading snow though the only real snow fall weve gotten was Halloween!
ReplyDeleteFADKOG - Oh, I'll still bitch about an inch of snow. It's just how I'm programmed.
ReplyDeleteVie - I remember that bad storm the East coast got last fall! Awful. But we're enjoying 55 degrees today and I'm loving it!
I'm worried about the bulbs coming up - I know there has got to be some bitter weather ahead and I'm afraid it's going to kill them off.
