A view of the backyard from my kitchen window on a sunny day. LOVE this window!
The rock wall in the back. We brought the bench and pot from our old house. See that little patch of grass? That's all we have to mow in the back. Yeah!
An interesting little stone box for plants. The previous owners had planted vinca and it did well there.
Abandoned birdhouse and lightpole. With the advent of cell phones, the dinner bell is no longer needed.
This hydrangea has been gorgeous.
Isn't this rosemary huge? I cut off some long sprigs and have them in a vase in the master bath.
Nope, we can't seem to escape them!
Wow, lovely yard. Y'all done chose well. . .
ReplyDeleteBringing the pot from the old house was probably smart. Wouldn't want the new owners finding yer stash. . .
Craig - According to our old neighbors, the new owners are hermits!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantabulous yard!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe how much open space you have around your home - WOW!
Love the rosemary bush. I'm such a rosemary freak. Love the smell!
And that last photo of the deer is just beautiful!

Pretty much everything Ron said was exactly what I wanted to comment! Your yard looks like such a natural, restorative place. Can't wait to see it spring and summer!
ReplyDeletevery very nice .... now where'd i put my hunting bow??
ReplyDeleteI would like to have my next home have very little lawn to mow and the rest garden/woods.
ReplyDeleteCould that be a caladium? The leaves are often shaped like that and can be green and white speckled and they have bell-like flowers kind of like Jack-in-the-Pulpits without the over-hanging bit. That's my best guess anyway.
Great yard! Love the stone box, and the old birdhouse & dinnerbell :)
ReplyDeleteI love Fall.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous yard and photos!
Mmm...rosemary. I'd be sneaking over and snipping a few sprigs. My neighbor used to have big lavender plant and said to come anytime and get some. She moved years ago and the new owners ripped it out. :(
I still have some of those old clippings in a vase though.
Ron - Thank you, sir! A benefit of living in the burbs!
ReplyDeleteFlutter - We were so excited to have new bushes and plants in this yard. We have a huge St. John's Wort growing at the end of the driveway along the rock wall. Isn't blooming anymore, so can't wait to see it next year.
X - What's funny is that the new neighbors said to us, "Hope you like deer." But we have seen about 1/10th the number here as at our old place. They traveled in herds of 15 at the old house. Haven't seen more than 3 at a time here, and not even every day.
Agent - Our two concerns were: no more water in basement (we sit up on a hill here, so we should be good) and easier yard maintenance. Less grass and less leaves here. I google imaged caladium and none of the plants looked like ours. It's a mystery!
Sailor - Isn't the stone box neat?
Chick - It kills me when I see people ripping out perfectly good landscaping. I'm sure I don't want to know what the new owners will do at our old place.
Hi Bijoux,
ReplyDeleteWow, such a beautiful forest around your garden! I love it!
Too cool to see that stag around your garden. Do you hear them
"bellowing" right now? They are in mating season in the Fall.
I do agree that your kitchen window is stunning, like your orchid(I love them; my Mom used to grow them in HI).
Very cool photos. Thank you for sharing!
The mystery plant looks like a lily to me. We have very similar lilies in our back garden.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing view out of your back window. That should perk you up as you wander bleary-eyed into the kitchen for breakfast....
Barb - my grandma loved orchids and Hawaii. I've never really heard the bellowing, but they are definitely aggressive right now. They've been snorting at me and the one in the photo stamped his hoof at me.
ReplyDeleteNick - yes, that window is a godsend in the morning.
looks like a beautiful property in full fall splendor there. :)
ReplyDeletehey, the suburbs are becoming the new natural habitat for deer. let me know when you're ready for the electric fence
ReplyDeleteLime - It truly was (unfortunately, in the past tense now).
ReplyDeleteX - Friends of ours just told us about a crazy woman in their neighborhood who feeds the raccoons and now they have coons looking in their windows!
I couldn't find an exact match either, but the shape of the leavesshape of the leaves is so close and they come in a wide range of speckled variations. Seems like it at least has to be a related plant.
ReplyDeleteI'm still trying to figure out how to make links into popouts, so ignore the redundancy. And on the first link, scroll down past the moths.
