Yes, that's right. I have NOW heard everything..........
Driving home this morning, listening to a national radio show, a caller to the show gave a shout out to all his Bronies. What is a 'Brony' you might ask? Actually, I'm hoping you have to ask, because I think of all my regular readers as sane, normal folks out there on the Internet Highway.
Brony: (noun) - Typically refers to 13-30 year old male fans of the 2010 reboot of the show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, but may also include females (see fillies).
Brony = Bro + Pony
While generally associated with a negative stereotype by outsiders, due to it's former 80's frilly girly-girl twinkle-toed tea-parties and all-female main casting, bronies are attracted to the new show by it's good animation, acting, writing, and humor.
I like to go to local resources (my offspring) to confirm what I read on the Interent. My 17 year old son once again wondered where I've been. Bronies have been around a while. He said he does have a friend who thinks the show is good.
Not a friend I've ever been impressed with!

Ughhh... I could've done without knowing this. Also, without a reminder of a show I never liked.
ReplyDeletea sure sign of the apocalypse
ReplyDeleteOMG...you learn something new everyday, don't ya?
ReplyDeleteBrony = Bro + Pony
Well, I wonder since I like Barbie dolls, I would be called...
a Broarbie = Bro + Barbie
Bwhahahahahahahahaha!
oye ... just OYE!
ReplyDeleteWell I have to admit, this is something I did not know.
ReplyDeleteRon "Broarbie" Ha Ha
Yes, I caught up with Bronies a little while back. What's not clear is whether male Bronies enjoy the frilly girly stuff or whether as you suggest they claim to enjoy the technical boy stuff - "good animation, acting, writing, and humor."
ReplyDeletePersonally, I've never seen the show so I can't give you my own opinion.
Sailor - are you admitting to having seen the show? It was after my time, but before I had kids myself. I remember a niece having the toy ponies, but that's it.
ReplyDeleteLime - I was thinking the same thing!
Ron- you just might be on the cutting edge of a new phenomenon.
X - but doesn't my photo crack you up?
Jimmy - I'm here to enlighten!
Nick - I pulled the definition off the web. Personally, I think it's just a way for them to indulge in childhood behavior. They probably drink juice boxes and eat Teddy Grahams while watching the show.
What Lime said. . .
ReplyDeleteWhen 1F (born 1982) was in kindergarten, the teachers had the kids organize in tables of 5-6 kids, and they picked a 'name' for their table. Since hers was 5 girls, they were the 'My Little Ponies'. FWIW. . . You know, kindergarten girls (*balancing hands*) 30-something guys. . .
It also reminds me of a YouTube video that one of my daughters' friends showed me a while back. Check out 'Pink Fluffy Unicorns' sometime; I'm sure it's right up the 'Brony' alley. . .
Craig - bahahaha......and it's only 99 cents to download!
ReplyDeletewell to be honest, no. no chuckles here.
ReplyDeletepink fluffy unicorns though? that's durn good junk
I did the same thing when I learned about Bronies about a year ago - asked my sons. My younger son said there are about half a dozen in his school. I'm not buying that it's about good acting and writing.
ReplyDeleteHi Bijoux,
ReplyDeleteYes, once again, I have just been on another planet all these years...
I am still out of it and not regretting it this time. :)
X - and they dance.....on rainbows!
ReplyDeleteAgent - because good acting is easy to spot in a cartoon!
Barb - you are still on planet Earth; it's the rest of us who have landed on Mars.
Oh good grief. I love a cartoon pony as much as the next person, but could hardly endure the years when my kids were young and watched those sorts of shows.
ReplyDeleteSomeone needs to hand in their man card.
Flutter - you made me chuckle about the man card.
