Do You See What I See?

It's been delightfully mild here the past few weeks.  One evening, I was able to go for a walk in the neighborhood at 8 pm, enjoying all the lights.  So much better than looking at them from the car window!  Yesterday, we had a nice, sunny day, with temps around 55 degrees.  I walked for miles, taking my camera, to capture some sights of the season.  Some lovely, some questionable, but I know their hearts are in it, so I'm just happy to see people in the Christmas spirit.

Ignoring the yellow sticks in front of the porch (for snowblowing), I loved this purple front door.

I really like arched windows, so this wreath caught my eye.

Santa, welcoming all who enter.

A very festive lampost.

Candy Cane Lane

I almost missed this, but look up, there is the star of Bethelehem above the nativity scene.

I wouldn't want this in my yard, but I do think it's festive.

Nice front door, but the sleigh and the reindeer propped up on sticks is a bit tacky.

Near my home, I like to call this, "Big Balls Hanging Low"  Well, my husband thinks it's funny!

I have no idea.

Overkill

Please don't take offense!

  3. I bet a lot of this is better when it's lit up, after dark. . .

And yeah. . . that is one BIG, honking inflated snowman. . .

  4. What a cute idea to snap pictures of the decorations in your neighborhood!! We drive by and of course I have to comment "nice display" "tacky" "too much clutter" etc. We seem to have lots of snowmen and Santas; not too many nativity scenes here. What I'm not sure about is with one display I saw that had Disney characters made out of wood and painted with lights surrounding them. But I guess to each their own?

  5. I like Candy Cane Lane - very original. Not so much visible festivity round here, except for fairy lights on people's trees.

  6. Lime - I had a heyday when those big balls became popular a few years back.

Agent - those were my faves, too.

Craig - it's the biggest inflatable I've ever seen. Lets just hope they have little kids!

Betty - I was actually nervous taking the pictures in broad daylight and waited whenever I heard a car go by! I'm not sure how folks feel about a stranger taking a photo of their front yard.

Nick - I think Americans overdo most things during the holidays, to be perfectly honest.

  7. I am a less is more kind of person (unless we're talking M&Ms), so the simple wreath and string of lights delights me. I'd be happy to see the end of any and all holiday inflatables.

    (Merry Christmas, sweet lady!)

  9. Holiday decorations were once a simple pleasure of mine- Something I've lost over the years ...... perhaps it has something to do with big balls hanging low.

  10. FADKOG - I think less is more too, esp when it comes to decor. Thanks for stopping by. You are missed.

Ron - that was my favorite too, because the wreath looked like it had some natural items on it. Glad I made you laugh!

X - it's probably painful to experience, not just see.

  13. Ooooo, so glad you posted these!

We have an inflatable Santa around here that is pretty tall and just as wide as it is tall. Way too tacky.

I've actually taken to saying Happy Holidays even though I formerly did Merry Christmas almost exclusively. It annoys me to have people setting that up as some sort of American or Christian yard stick against which to measure people, grrrrrr
    I am just contrary.
    So
    Happy Holidays to you too!
    ;)

  14. Logo - You made me laugh! I'm contrary too, and saying Happy Holidays in an excited tone makes my day!
