Liberty Weekend

When we were newlyweds, my husband and I were grocery shopping a few days before the 4th of July in the junk food aisle.  A boy about age 6 was hounding his mother to buy Doritos, chips, cheese curls, etc., and to persuade her, he kept repeating, "But Mom, it's Liberty Weekend!!!"

That has become our catch phrase for the holiday ever since and our general excuse to indulge:

"I'm buying chip dip.........because it's Liberty Weekend!"
"Let's open a bottle of wine (at 3 pm).......it's Liberty Weekend!"
"I think I'll leave work at noon tomorrow........it's Liberty Weekend, you know!"
"Meet me in the bedroom in 5 minutes..........Liberty Weekend.....woohoo!"

    This made me laugh outloud! You sound like you would fit RIGHT IN TO OUR FAMILY! We have little catch phrases... things we heard that made us laugh.... and making excuses for the good stuff. Yes, you may be a long lost relative!

      I'm glad you enjoyed it, Katherine! We do this often, especially overhearing people on vacation. I now put the phrases next to photos in the vacation albums to remind us where we heard it. My fave of all time is, "Son of a sea lion!" Heard at Bruce Canyon.

    It's unusually hot in Northern Ireland right now, so of course that's the ideal excuse for wine, ice cream, chocolate cake and any number of heat-appropriate goodies!
