The Walker

(This is not one of my regular posts. Think of it as an 'Inside the Mind of Bijoux')

I like Fitz and the Tantrums. I like their name and I like their music, probably because it reminds me of 80's music. The first time I heard 'The Walker,' I couldn't get it out of my head. It's the whistling that really gets me. Who whistles in a song?

I didn't know the name of the song until I downloaded it. 'The Walker?' Well, that's strange. Wait, aren't the zombies on The Walking Dead called 'Walkers'? Ever since I made that connection, I picture those damn zombies doing their stiff-legged walking to the song. And the whistling just adds to the creep factor.

I heard that the theme song of the Oscars is this song, so maybe you will recognize it.

Here is the official video:

I think I like my idea for the video better.

Have you ever created a video for a song in your head? Or is this just one of my unique habits?

  1. I gotta tell you that I have never heard this song before, but I REALLY like the beat!

And yes, I think your idea for the video is much better. Something along the lines of how the zombies walked/danced in the video "Thriller."

"Have you ever created a video for a song in your head?"

Not necessarily a video, but I have created a completely different storyline to song in my own head; imagining it to be something else.

    1. You need to request this sort of music at your store! I think it would attract shoppers.

  2. Well, they do actually look kind of zombie-like in the video. In fact, it reminds me a little if Thriller - has a very 80's feel to the dancing, too.

You know that Foster the People song, "Pumped up Kicks"? It also has whistling, which just adds to the creep factor since it's about a school shooting.

    1. I totally forget that song has whistling too! Yes, just creepy! But I do like it.

  3. Wow, I don't know this song, but I think it's pretty cool. I think it would be great for "The Walking Dead"! And I've created a few videos myself!

    Cool post, Bijoux!

    1. I love to listen to music in the car while seeing people cutting grass, kids playing, etc. because it often reminds me of a music video. I was obsessed with them when they started in the late 70's.

  4. Never had heard of this song or group until you featured them here. It is a catchy song. I honestly have to say I don't plan out videos for songs in my head, but maybe because I'm tone deaf? I do admire those that do though!

    1. My oldest daughter claims to be tone deaf and I really feel sorry for her. I probably get the greatest pleasures in life from music.

  5. them was the daze, eh? you and i listened to very different music in the 70's and 80's i'd guess, there was a lotta whistling in the 70's.

fun fact- i had a guidance counselor who tried to convince me to explore 'professional' whistling as a career 'cuz i'd absent mindedly start whistling in study hall or quiet times in class .... got in lots of trouble for it over the years. i shoulda at least tried i suppose but i took her for a weird flake back then.

    1. I think it's safe to assume we didn't have the same soundtrack to our lives. And I'm not much of a whistler!

    2. no doubt. i'm actually not much of a whistler anymore, gettin in trouble at school and at work kinda messed it up and now i'm whistle-shy

  6. Yeah. I like that song. And honestly, the guy dancing kind of reminds me of a zombie a bit so you weren't far off with your idea for the video. ;)
I always make up videos for songs in my head. I am a very visual person so it just seems natural.

    1. I'm glad to hear I'm not alone in my video makings. I'm usually disappointed when I see a video long after I originally heard a song, but I agree, this video seemed to be in line with my idea.

  8. I first became familiar with Fitz and the Tantrums (I agree, great name) when their song "Moneygrabber" started getting a lot of airplay. Hadn't heard this song before, but it's definitely catchy. Probably the best use of whistling since Pete, Bjorn and John did "Young Folks."

    1. Moneygrabber is a good one, too I had to look up Young Folks. Video was....interesting. I prefer the A-Ha comicstrip video though.

  9. Can't say I have. I just usually imagine the singer on stage, belting out the song. Maybe sedately, maybe in a pool of sweat, maybe even catching my eye. Don't know the band at all, they sound a bit obvious to me.

    1. I have no idea what that could mean with regards to music, but I take it you don't card for them!

  10. Interesting question, as I don't readily know the answer. Maybe I have? Now I have to pay attention. I regularly make up stories for people I walk past, so why not a music video?

  11. Haha now this is funny! I would have never made that connection but you are right it works and its creepy! I have definitely made up scenarios in my head for songs that dont exactly match with the music video...but you are right the version in our head is usually the best!
