This Is Happening

We are coming into the home stretch here.  Did I mention it's a baseball themed wedding?  People are coming off the benches to attend this thing.  Seriously, we have not had one 'No' response yet.

I'm finding this much more stressful than my own wedding, and I didn't get any help planning that one.  Husband says it's because we didn't have the internet back then, so no choices of anything.  I think he's right.  I detest Pinterest, just because of the pressure of knowing it's out there, chock full of ideas I don't want to do!

As much as I have tried to stay out of the whole thing, it's not really possible, being the mother-of-the-bride.  Especially when your daughter is the opposite of a bridezilla, and doesn't really care about anything but the honeymoon.  Yes, that was planned before anything else.  Priorities, people!  Meanwhile, I'm the one searching for cheap, navy blue 12 inch pillar candles online.  Not as easy as one might imagine.  Fortunately, I'm married to someone who is happy to take over when I say I don't care either!

Thanks to the sister and the mother of the groom, the wedding shower was a home run.  There were games:

Prizes (candles with 'ball park' scents such as caramel corn, cotton candy, root beer) for the person whose gift was being opened every time the buzzer rang

Gifts

Food (hot dogs, but no apple pie)

A home plate for attendees to sign and pictures to be put in later

Middle Child and I stepped up to the plate and made these favors.  I'm not crafty, but was sort of proud of how these turned out!

  1. Actually, I believe 'home stretch' is a horse-racing reference, not a baseball one. . . Baseball has 'home plate' and '7th-inning stretch', but no 'home stretch'. . .

And hey, I cared more about planning our honeymoon than our wedding, too (which still didn't preclude us spending a night sleeping in our car). . .

    1. The ending of any sport is a home stretch for me!

  2. And am so lovin' the whole "Baseball Theme" to this wedding. "Prizes (candles with 'ball park' scents such as caramel corn, cotton candy, root beer) for the person whose gift was being opened every time the buzzer rang" What a great idea!

Also, the Almost Newlywed Game was brilliant. Great questions!

That food spread looks delish. I like how you placed the veggies in a cup with the dip on the bottom.

" I'm not crafty, but was sort of proud of how these turned out!"

And you should be because they are BEYOND clever. OMG... how cute! Little bride nail polishes!

    BRAVA!

Can't wait to read and see more.

    1. I'm really not that clever because I saw it on the Internet. The clever part was not burning myself with the hot glue gun!

  3. Baseball bride? Now I've seen everything, that's cool.

But there's no crying or nail polish I baseball ;)

Stay the course, here's hoping you have as big a ball as we had putting on the shin-dig. You know what they say, it's all down-hill once the honeymoon is set.

    1. I'm most worried about crying when my son walks me down the aisle. We take him back to college today and won't see him again till the big day.

    1. You should have seen the dirty looks we got at the drugstore, buying 35 nail polishes. The girl had to scan each one and it did not go well.

  5. sounds like fun, that food looks VERY healthy....I couldn't help but notice no pics of the stripper!!!

(must say I was thinkin about my honeymoon mostly too)

    2. Really? We don't do them for neither event. But we're kinda weird like that here in the country

  6. I've heard weddings are being themes these days; I don't remember having a theme other than "we're getting married". I like the baseball theme and I like that your daughter is thinking beyond the wedding day. It seems like so many put so much emphasis on the wedding itself and forget what happens afterwards (not just the honeymoon, but adjusting to living together etc.)

    Looked like a great shower!

  7. "Middle child and I 'stepped up to the plate'," eh? Even your captions are baseball-themed. Love the wedding idea, and I think it's great that she planned the honeymoon first!

  8. How fun!!!! I love the baseball theme. That certainly is original.
I was never a bridezilla either. As a matter of fact my mom was the one who picked my wedding dress and I was all, okay! I had no idea what I really liked and I thought it was nice so it was fine by me. If I had a wedding NOW I would definitely pick a different dress. I know my style more now than I did then. And I'm sure I'd do a few things differently than I did (not much, actually, now that I think about it) but I loved my wedding. Best day ever.
I imagine this must be a very stressful time for you. But fun too. I hope when the big day arrives you are able to just sit back and enjoy the entire day. Soak in every moment. (and just reading your comment above about not crying when your son walks you down the aisle made me choke up, so good luck with that. ;) )

    1. We've had some stressful moments with the invitations (copyright issues) and the dress (didn't fit and she actually doesn't have one right now, it's on order). I've been told the day will happen, no matter what. Lol

  9. I'm glad I've never had to organise a really elaborate white wedding with all the trimmings. I'd be a nervous wreck a good month before the big day. Jenny and I had a very simple register office wedding and then went out for a slap-up meal with our two witnesses-cum-friends. No hassle at all.

    1. I have to say, the older I get, the less I enjoy this kind of thing. However, sometimes I think it's important to do these things for grandparents. They are all getting up there and I think it's safe to assume this will be the only grand child's wedding some of them will see.

  10. I love those party favors. AWESOME! I remember when I was planning my first wedding, I got so caught up in it all, I didn't even remember we were going on a kick-butt honeymoon to Disney World after the wedding. When that hit me, I got SUPER excited! I wouldn't want to have to go through planning a wedding again, so hopefully my stepdaughter's mom is big on that! She's only 14, so we have a while.

  11. the favors are so cute, i tried to get a close up. is that sally hansen polish. i just started painting my nails and bought a lot of bottles of sally hansen polish.

a baseball theme. that's cute. i'd be down with bowling.

"Especially when your daughter is the opposite of a bridezilla, and doesn't really care about anything but the honeymoon."

i'm with your daughter but worse. justice of the peace and forget the ceremony wherein i would have to shell out a lot of money. now the honeymoon i would spend a chunk of change on because we'd be traveling, for weeks!!!

  12. Oh man I bet the groom would be pumped at the baseball theme. I have no idea what my wedding theme was, but I am confident it had nothing to do with sports or anything I was interested in. Haha--this is where I hope that the Mrs. does not walk by as I am typing this comment on your blog...

    1. They are huge fans. My daughter was a star fast pitch pitcher in high school. I think their entrance song is going to be the one that goes, "Put me in coach, I'm ready to play' today."

  13. I think the theme of my wedding was... Woohoo, we're pregnant, better get married so mom can continue going to church. LOL The honeymoon didn't happen until 6 years later.
Theme weddings can be pretty cool. We were in a Renaissance one many years ago. It was fun to make the decorations and we rented costumes.
Cool games, yummy food, neat favors! Ya done good.

  18. i was not much of a planner either. my mother was super-organized or mine would have been a slap-dash affair. i did actually get to a point though where i told her she had a limit of three decisions one weekend when i came home from college. after i'd made three decisions no more questions could be asked. hahahaha. well, it sounds like your daughter;s wedding will be a fun day shining with their personality. enjoy!
