Happy Thanksgiving 2014

As I was washing dishes last month, I looked out the window and saw this guy resting in the woods. I went out onto the deck with my camera.

He stood up, but then posed for me, just like this. He stayed very still for quite a while, then wandered off. I thanked him by tossing two pumpkins back there on November 1st.

These are a few bridesmaid's bouquets and corsages from the wedding in October. I didn't have the heart to throw any of them away, so they are hanging upside down in my closet now, drying.  I love their fall colors. We have one apple left from the many pounds Middle Child picked last month. My husband is going to put the last one in our turkey. Wishing all of my American bloggers a Happy Thanksgiving with your loved ones.

  1. Great capture! I know a lot of people view deer as a nuisance, but I love them. Hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

    1. They actually are a huge nuisance here. I've gotten over not being able to have most flowers and shrubs, but they are a danger to drivers. I know two people who were hit by deer (truly, the deer just jump right into your car, you do not hit them!) last week. Fall is the worst.

    2. But they are majestic animals when they are still! Enjoy your turkey day, Mark!

  5. Wow. . . that's a pretty nice view out your window. Several years back, I worked in an office on a wooded edge of town, and a few times a year, the deer would walk right past our windows while we were working. . .

    1. A deer nearly ran into my car on my way into work last week. I think the line between beautiful and nuisance is determined by whether they eat the crops you're hoping to sell, or trashing your car, or not. . .

    2. Sounds as though you are familiar with the deer hit and runs! I've been hit twice, but was very lucky that they did no damage to my mini van. That tank had a great rear bumper!

    1. Nope, it's a suburban development with woods in between houses. It's actually rare for me to not see multiple deer back there everyday.

  10. What beautiful flowers...and we get deer behind our house sometimes, too. We're in a suburban area near The Opry--so it's not a rural thing, for sure. It's SO hard to get a great shot like that, though! Good job!!!

    1. It's funny that I don't associate deer with rural areas either. They are our suburban backyard pets.
