Is everyone enjoying the sloooooow change of seasons? We are in the usual mode of one warm day, followed by cold and/or snow flurries for a few days. Rinse and repeat. But I'm still feeling much more chipper now that April is here.
Last week, I went with some friends to the heron rookery. It is where the great blue herons of our national park nest every year. It's weird because they use just two big trees along the side of a main road. This is what the trees look like:

Birds are creatures of habit, aren't they? Like those birds that migrate to the other side of the world, then come back to exactly the same spot they migrated from. How on earth do they do that?
ReplyDeleteBirds amaze me and I think their migration habits are fascinating. Plus, they're fun to watch!
DeleteI love blue herons! There are quite a few in my neck of the woods. I didn't realize they were also found in {insert name of your state here (name withheld for privacy reasons)}. Magnificent birds.
ReplyDeleteFunny, now that you're enjoying spring, we've finally had some winter-like weather. Figures.
We have a lot locally because of the park. I've even seen one on the roof of my house once! I think they are everywhere there is water, but I could be wrong.
DeleteWow, that does look like something out of a Dr. Seuss book. Guess they really like that tree. maybe that beer will make some people less afraid of clowns
ReplyDeleteHahaha....yes, maybe the beer will promote better clown relations!
DeleteThe summer is here already. Some of my friends are posting how they are still getting snow and I'm over here having to turn my air conditioning on because it's 80f outside. The label on that beer looks interesting. Glad you enjoyed it. I don't drink at all. Tried some alcohol when I was in my 30's but it's just not for me.
ReplyDeleteMy oldest daughter is visiting your city next month. She's excited for some 80 degrees, but I know it gets old after a while.
DeleteAlcohol is definitely an acquired taste. One of my kids is convinced wine is just nasty cough syrup. I always loved cough syrup...LOL.
Clown Shoes beer? Sounds interesting...
ReplyDeleteIsnt that the strangest name?
Delete"We are in the usual mode of one warm day, followed by cold and/or snow flurries for a few days."
ReplyDeleteYes, it's the same here! However, I will say that yesterday and today were the first two days in which it REALLY felt like Spring! Today, especially, it was stunning!
"It reminded me of a Dr. Seuss book."
HA! You're right, it does!
That second photograph of the flying heron is faaaabulous! Great capture!
"so I looked at their craft beer list and chuckled at one of the names. When the server came over, I asked her about the beer and she convinced me to try it, saying it was really good.
What a clever name! I love the label. And I don't even drink beer, but just from your photo...it LOOKED really good!

It is very dreary today, but at least we don't need a coat. I think you might like the white ale beers as they are not strong at all and are quite refreshing in the summer.
DeleteHerons in flight are an incredible sight. . .
ReplyDeleteInteresting that, aquatic as they are, they nest up in trees. And that's a LOT of nests in one tree. . .
I've had some really good beers just by picking stuff that sounded interesting off the brew-pub menu. . .
I've sort of gotten into the whole craft beer thing the last few years, but I still don't like the dark beers.
DeleteI read that the herons kill the trees they nest in because their droppings are so acidic. Fun fact you can use on Easter!
Hey, ain't no Spring. My veggy garden is still nearly all white. Wake me when it's all mud will ya?
ReplyDeleteYes, we finally had the snow pile completely gone from the deck yesterday. Your time is coming!
DeleteWell, we had 1 day with the garden clear of dandruff, then had snow over the weekend that has covered it back over ....
Delete... but we got new maple syrup, so there's that.
That beer looks interesting. There is a brewery here that has a chocolate beer; might try it some time!
ReplyDeleteHow cool with the heron rookery. We have seen blue herons here but have no idea where, if any, their rookeries are. One thing I miss from where we used to live is the walks where we took Koda because the trees there did have the heron nests and just about this time of year the chicks would be hatching and clucking. Glad you got to spend some time seeing them and spending time with friends!
Happy Easter!
betty
Oh Betty, I just realized you have to start over again making friends in your new place. That must be hard! I hope you have found some nice people at your new church. Have a joyous Easter!
DeleteGreat photos of the herons, Bijoux. They're quite impressive. And you're right about the sloooow change of seasons. I need Spring--Stat!
ReplyDeleteWe sometimes skip spring here, like last year. It's a bummer when the trees and bushes don't bloom very well. Hoping for warmer days from here on out.
DeleteI love beers (and wines) with unusual names, although I don't care for beers with any sort of flavor other than beer-flavor.
ReplyDeleteI also like herons - there's a park near here where they nest, too, and I also have that Seussian association to them.
I don't mind some of the fruity beers, like Fat Head Bumbleberry, but I dislike the hard cider ones. And I love the pumpkin and Christmas ales.
DeleteFruity beers sometimes taste like shampoo to me.
ReplyDeleteThose herons are cool.
Shampoo? Oh great, now I'll probably notice that!!
DeleteHoly moly! That tree does look like something you'd see in a Dr. Seuss book. Crazy! Very cool. :)
ReplyDeleteIt was fun to witness.
