Over the weekend, my oldest daughter and my son-in-law treated me and his mother to a special evening. It was a combination Mother's Day and birthday celebration, since his mom and I have a birthday the same week after Mother's Day. The destination was to be a surprise and we were just told to dress up and be hungry.
I was so excited when we pulled into the parking lot. They were taking us to the premier seafood restaurant in the area, one which I've never had the good fortune to visit before. Its location is a bit unusual as it juts out onto one of the Great Lakes and is surrounded by high-rise apartment buildings.

You really have no idea what you are in for when you enter the walkway and descend the stairs or elevator to the restaurant level.

This is the bar area. As you can see, it is surrounded by windows.

We started out with a wonderful bottle of Chardonnay. Here is my meal: crab stuffed gulf shrimp with broccolini over a potato puree drizzled in garlic oil. I loved every bite.

That water is sure blue. That restaurant is neat too. Not sure I'd ever want to live or work in a place like that, if those rocks gave way the place may go splat lol But then as long as one can swim, things may not be grim.
ReplyDeleteI color enhanced the last photo....it was just a cell phone picture, so wasn't great quality. The restaurant has been there 50 years, so I think it's safe!
DeleteThat's fantastic! I love eating anywhere that overlooks the water.
ReplyDeleteI thought of you when my daughter took the picture of my dinner plate!
DeleteThat is SO cool looking! I want to eat there. My mom's birthday was yesterday. Always right before Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteI love having a May birthday because it's usually great weather.
DeleteI'm right there with you, as re living near the water, having grown up on the shores of Lake Huron. They say that there's no place in Michigan that's more than a 2-hour drive from one of the Great Lakes; alas, I think the town we live in now is that place. . .
ReplyDeleteLooks lovely; glad you had a good time. . .
I'd have to say Lake Michigan is the best Great Lake. I love that whole western side of your state!
DeleteYou would have a lot of company in that regard. . .
Delete;)
The inside of that place looks so wonderful. I love how it hangs over the cliff like that. Looks like you had a good time. Happy Early Mother's Day and Happy Early Birthday.
ReplyDeleteIt is a really neat location. Thanks for the good wishes!
DeleteGorgeous place!! And the food looked yummy! How sweet they did this for you and your son in law's mother!!
ReplyDeletebetty
They were so funny how excited they were to treat us to this! His mom is a very nice woman, which makes me happy for my daughter!
DeleteOMG....I am in awe of the interior of that restaurant. It's faaaaaaaabulous! And what an AMAZING view! When I first looked at the view outside the windows, I thought that it was a "visual effect" created by film and screens!
ReplyDeleteLove that exterior photograph of the restaurant hanging off the stone wall. It looks like something from The Jetson's!
Beautiful last shot of the water!
Looks like you had a wonderful time!
Happy Mother's Day and Pre-Birthday, my friend!
X
Aren't the blue lights used in the bar amazing? I'd go there all the time if it was closer and I was made of money....bahahaha!
DeleteThanks for the good wishes! I'm going to a hibachi restaurant tomorrow night for Morher's Day with the rest of my family.
Wow, Bijoux, this place looks fantastic! What a unique design! And the food looks even better. Happy Mother's Day and Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Rob!
DeleteWhat a great restaurant! Love the view. And, my mom also has a birthday the week after Mother's Day, but she's going to have to settle for a meal cooked in my apartment rather than in a lakeside restaurant chiseled into a cliff and meant to resemble a boat.
ReplyDeleteYour mom is getting ripped off! LOL.....I'm kidding, I bet she will love whatever you're planning!
DeleteHey! The enchiladas turned out REALLY good! :)
DeleteYou are a good son!
DeleteI like the way the restaurant looks like a boat.Glad the meal lived up to the reputation. I like surprise presents - haven't had one for a while though!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in Chicago in April, I discovered a cafe shaped like a boat on one of the local beaches. I was totally fooled until I got close up to it!
I hope you do a post on the Windy City soon!
DeleteWindy City is right. There was a very chilly wind coming off the lake. The temperature was a bit of a shock after Washington DC!
DeleteSounds like an interesting trip! DC is my favorite American city, and I'm not even patriotic. Looking forward to hearing more.
DeleteNice looking water there though my preference is to be ON rather than over ;-)
ReplyDeleteWe're gonna take a road trip in a couple weeks, doing a drive-by your neighborhood. We'll be sure to honk and wave ....
Sounds good!
DeleteWow! It is gorgeous! And the food looks fantastic. What a fabulous Mother's Day treat!
ReplyDeleteWe had a nice time.
DeleteFantastic gift! If I had just looked at the pics, you would have fooled me--I would have expected you to describe waves and lifeboats counts.
ReplyDeleteYes, it takes pretty special places like that to counteract the dreaded lake effect snow.
I hope your weekend was super.
Thanks, SD!
