One Victory Away

Those who know me will tell you I have less than zero interest in sports. But I do love my husband and children and I am so very happy for them right now.

My poor husband has been a Cleveland sports fan his whole life. Growing up, attending a professional sporting event was a special treat. He would often choose to attend a Cavs game as his birthday gift when he as a kid. Even I relented and went to a few games with him, over the years. We were in Vegas during the NBA championship. Sadly, he missed most of thefinal game because he was helping his aunt and got confused about game time, due to the different time zone. I was with my daughter at a restaurant and noticed the game was on, so I texted him right away and he caught the end of it. He was also a bit disappointed to be out of town during the big parade and aftermath, but he wore his CLE shirt the next day and we spent the day receiving high fives from people all over the strip. And hey, LeBron is from MY hometown, you know!

Now . . . how about those Indians? I was actually a big fan as a tween, during the Buddy Bell years. I remember sitting around the radio on our living room floor with my dad and brother, listening to the games. I guess I lost interest when I discovered boys. But my oldest daughter, who was a fast pitch softball pitcher, is a HUGE fan. She contacted the MLB, just so she could use the Indians logo on her wedding invitations. She and her husband have made it their life goal to see a game at every MLB stadium. I think they've already been to nine.

So, here we are, the night of game 5. My husband gave up on the Browns a few decades ago, but he's always held out hope to see his Indians win a World Series. And all these years of Cleveland being an underdog in just about every imaginable category, we might just see a second title in the same year. Even I am excited!

    That's AWESOME!

Like you, I have less than zero interest in sports, however, I'm always happy for my brother who is a HUGE Eagles and Phillies fan. In fact, when he was here last week, he went to a home game here in Philly (which the Eagles won) and he was elated! I felt elated for him.

Have an awesome week, my friend!

I'm not into sports well, running or walking on dreadmill is for my sanity. I'm waitig to fall for it.

  3. I like the Indians thanks to the movie Major League, so it would be nice to see them win. I just look at the recaps though, get bored to death watching 3 hour games or any sports games for that matter, rather play any day.

    1. So, you were hoping Charlie Sheen would throw the first pitch?

I can't sit through a 2 hour movie, so yeah, these sporting events are sheer torture to me.

  4. I have that same life goal--to watch a game at every stadium (I've seen a lot but in a few cities they now have newer stadiums...). I kind of want the Cubs because it has been so long but Cleveland is also good and I'd like them both to win. I also want it to go to 7 games because it is the only thing distracting me from the never-ending election!

  5. I've never been a sports fan but for the fans they are having fun. I've never been to a sporting event but my daughter has and that made her a fan.

    1. Well, I hope you went to a high school football game when you were in high school, Mary! LOL, but yeah, not my cup of tea either.

  6. This is a very fun Series, just because both teams have been SO LONG since they won one. I think the Indians are the longest since winning a Series in the American League, and we all know about the Cubbies. . . (It's sort of like the Lions playing the Browns in the Super Bowl; but if that happens, I'm afraid the earth will explode from the 'cosmic disturbance'. . .)

I adopted the Cubs years ago as my 'National League Team', since most of my family lives in the Chicago area now (they're all White Sox fans, but I can't allow myself that much conflict with my love for my Tigers), and once upon a time, the minor league team in OurTown was a Cubs affiliate. So, I'm mainly pulling for the Cubs.

But you know I love you, and I'll be just as happy for yer Indians breaking their 68-year drought as I will if the Cubs win.

It's a rare treat to have two of your teams win championships in the same year. Detroit has won multiple championships in three of the four major sports, in my lifetime (doggone Lions!), but I don't think we've ever won two the same year. At least, not in my lifetime. . .

    1. I finally had a sports post for you, Craig!!! Thanks for the good wishes! And if the Lions and the Browns ever make the Super Bowl together, we will know hell really can freeze over.

  7. Well...now you get a Game 6 to look forward to.

I'm much more of a football fan than baseball, but I know what it's like to invest so much emotion into your team only to have them pull up short. Good luck to your Indians!

  8. How cute with your daughter/hubby wanting to attend games at the other MBL teams. I knew someone in San Diego whose family did the same thing; planned summer vacations around that.

I'm not much of a baseball fan but its nice to see teams in there that might not usually be in there for a change. Go Indians!

  9. Gosh, Bijoux, I wish I could contribute something meaningful here, but I'm so not a sports fan. I basically support the New York teams because it's my hometown, but I don't go to their games or follow the news.

But if you're happy, I'm happy!

    3. Yup, but people are at least being good sports about it, as far as I've seen on the news, fb, etc.

  11. I also have zero interest in sports, as does Jenny. I'm always baffled by how worked-up people get about their favourite team winning or losing. But I did enjoy the diving and gymnastics at the Olympics, just for the sheer grace and skill.

    1. I think when you play the sport, like my husband, son, daughter and SIL did, you probably enjoy it more. My SIL's grandfather played Minor League, so their family has a lot of baseball history as well.

  14. My oldest sister and her whole family are huge baseball fans. Giants, maybe? Is that San Francisco? I am glad for your husband and kids that your team is doing well. Myself, I'm not capable of attending to really any sports game.
