Last Spring, my husband told me that he had a conference to attend in San Francisco in October and he suggested that I fly out near the end of it so that we could celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary in Napa Valley & Sonoma. We had gone there for our 20th and absolutely LOVED it. How could I say no?
So, two weeks ago, I got on an early direct flight and managed to check into the hotel by 10:30 am. Since it was the last day of the conference for my spouse, I had booked myself a 5 hour tour of the city with a company that operates small shuttle buses. In my next post, I will tell you all about the tour.
For now, I will share with you some different views of the Golden Gate Bridge. Ten years ago, we flew into San Fran and headed to Napa via the Bay Bridge. On the way back to the airport, we did cross the Golden Gate, but it came up so fast and there was so much traffic, we didn't really get to enjoy its magnificence. This time, I was able to enjoy it!

| View of the Bridge from the Bay |
 |
| The tour stopped at the Bay Trail, a popular place to walk and bike. |
 |
| View of the Bridge in the distance from the top of Twin Peaks, another tour stop. |
 |
| This is the view of the Bridge after crossing it once you leave San Francisco. My husband and I pulled over into the parking lot provided for this purpose when we were on our way to Sonoma. |
 |
| This is from a park called Land's End. The tour company stopped here, and I wanted to show it to my husband, so we ended up stopping here on the way out of San Fran and then on our last day, on the way to the airport. Those are people standing on that rock. Finally saw the fog that everyone talks about! |
I thought those were shrubs on the rock until I enlarged it haha hopefully no big waves go there. Sure got plenty of spots to view it and what a view it is.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was taking pictures, if took me a while to realize people were out there!
DeleteI've never been to SF, but it was my step-mom's favorite city.
ReplyDeleteThose are some pretty spectacular shots of the Golden Gate Bridge. (We here in Michigan think our Mackinac Bridge is pretty cool, too; it just doesn't have as good a press agent. . . ;) )
There are a lot of neat bridges out there. I suppose this one is famous due to its color.....Sherwin Williams international bridge orange color, as a bit of trivia.

ReplyDeleteWOW! GORGEOUS photographs!!! I love each and everyone of them, but I think my favorite is the third one down (the view from Twin Peaks). What I really like about all these photographs are the various angles you captured. GREAT job!
You know, San Francisco is a place I've always wanted to visit. A friend of mine had a brother who lived there and every time he visited and then returned, he told me that I would love it there because of the weather - it never gets really hot or humid.
"Finally saw the fog that everyone talks about!"
Beautiful capture!
I am so looking forward to seeing and hearing more about your trip. So glad you were able to fly out there for your Anniversary!
Have a great weekend, my friend!X
So glad you enjoyed the photos, Ron. I was really happy with how they turned out and hope to use a few for framing. We really lucked out with the weather. No rain, sunny, and between 70-83 degrees the entire trip. So beautiful with the fall colors in the valley, too.
DeleteSome of my tour photos aren't great, as I had to take them from the shuttle bus window, but it was sooo interesting to hear so much of the history from the tour guide, you would love to go there, Ron. It's just a looong plane ride for us (5.25 hours, would be more for you!) Have a super weekend!
Wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThe Golden Gate Bridge is something unique.
Had been there twice.
There's a lot of beauty out there!
DeleteMy dad absolutely loves the Golden Gate Bridge. So much so that my brother and I have bought him clocks, mugs and sofa sized pictures of it for his house. Looks like you had a good time and loved the pictures.
ReplyDeleteOh, that's neat that you can find things like that for your dad!
DeleteThose are really fantastic photos. I agree with you, you need to frame them!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteStunning photos! Looks like you had great weather, too. I lived in the Bay Area for 8 years and was a frequent visitor to SF. It really is one of the most unique and beautiful cities in the world. Too bad it's so damn expensive.
ReplyDeleteThe weather all week was just gorgeous. Hard to come back home, knowing that winter will soon be here.
DeleteI LOVE San Francisco! I lived in the bay area when I was a kid, but haven't been back in many (15?) years. I have family there, so I do want to visit again.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary!
Thanks, Agent! It was a good time!
DeleteI love this place, you know that by now already!
ReplyDeleteWhen was your wedding anniversary? Ours was just day before!
Great clicks!!!!
Thanks! It was in the summer.
DeleteWe visited San Francisco in 2013. The first time we went to the Golden Gate Bridge it was shrouded in mist but the second time we were lucky and it was bright sunshine. We walked across the bridge and back and the views were amazing. The Bay Bridge is quite something too, though not so well known. But our most vivid memory is of the huge numbers of street people and disturbed individuals who seemed to be getting no help, or even interest, from anyone.
ReplyDeleteI have a friend who rollerbladed across the Golden Gate. I don't like heights, so I'm not sure I could walk across it like you did. I really didn't notice many homeless while traveling around the city, but I did see a yeller when we went to dinner that night. It's hard to help when people don't want to go to shelters, but yes, I have heard that the wait for people who want mental health and/or addiction help is quite lengthy.
DeleteHappy belated anniversary! Reaching 30 years is a milestone!! Sounded like a great getaway, I would have jumped at the chance too. Looking forward to hearing about the tour you took!
ReplyDeletebetty
Thank you so much!
DeleteI love San Francisco! The first time I ever flew on a commercial airliner was to visit my brother who was living in Berkley at the time. He picked me up and I saw that fog rolling in! I did a bike ride over the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito and took the ferry back! Love the photos and Happy Anniversary!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun memory, Rob! We saw lots of bicyclists going over it. Sausalito looks so pretty from afar. Thanks for your kind wishes.
DeleteGreat pictures!
ReplyDeleteI have never been over to the West Coast but I'd love to go. This looks wonderful!
Hope you get to go soon!
