For dinner, we went to one of the most famous spots in the valley, Auberge du Soleil, for their terrace dining. Truth be told, it was a disappointment. Tables were basically on top of each other, so you were fighting multiple conversations. Plus, we were stuck in a corner, so this was our view. Food and service were not something to write home about. We ended up going back to Brasswood (from the night before) to have coffee and dessert.
After a leisurely breakfast the next morning, we drove down the Silverado Trail, stopped at the Oxbow Market in downtown Napa, and headed back to San Francisco. We made a brief stop at Land's End again, to take a walk along the trail before the long flight home. A wonderful trip with the man I love. |
Except for the annoying couple, sounds like a great time. I'd have mentioned how hot tubs are a breeding ground for disease and bacteria.
ReplyDeleteLol, yes, not my thing either. I'm not sure why they wanted to make sure we knew they owned a hot tub?
Deletehaha have to feed the dinos too. Liquid gold huh?
ReplyDeleteAnd that's just what everyone needs in their castle, a torture chamber. one big arse table too.
Isn't that dino grand? The torture chamber was a bit disturbing. Some of it was authentic pieces, which I found horrific and didn't take photos.
DeleteOMG, everytime I read another post about your trip to the Napa Valley wine country and see your photographs, I SOOOO WANT TO GO THERE! And I would love to see it with someone like you and your husband who really have such a passion for wine and seeing where it's made. Your photographs are soooooo good! I love the shot you got of the view from up high...WOW!!!!! What a stunning view!
ReplyDeleteI also love that shot you got from inside the dining hall. Those murals are incredible! I bet Tank was so much fun because it looks like such a fun place with such a unique atmosphere.
Thanks SO MUCH for sharing your trip. I really, really enjoyed hearing about it and seeing your photographs.
Oh, love the photo of you holding the wine glass. You look FAB in that color!
Have a super week, my friend!
You're so kind, Ron! I appreciate your compliments. I've only been there twice, but it truly is my favorite place, just like you love NYC. I have a favorite shot from the top of that castle that I think I'm going to get blown up onto canvas for my kitchen so I can enjoy that view everyday!
DeleteWasn't that dining room crazy? They used it in a movie scene with Adam Sandler and the castle has been in commercials, music videos, and an episode of the Bachelor.
I'm so glad you enjoyed my vacation posts. I was worried that I did too many trip posts this year!
I haven't really been too much in the area you were for this part of your trip. It can be at times hard to figure out what to go to, what to avoid, what to just see and taste at. But at the end of the day, it sounds like it was a great adventure for you and your hubby!
ReplyDeletebetty
Calistoga is neat and sort of 'old west' in certain areas.
DeleteYes, totally overwhelming. I spent months reading up on places, but it's certainly a hit or miss in the end.
Heh, there's a real art to building a brand-new castle that looks 500 years old. . . The interior actually reminds me of the old Spanish mission church (built ~1790) where we went to Mass near San Diego. . .
ReplyDeleteOK, so now I'm gonna have to check out that 'liquid gold'. . . unless it's gonna set me back a month's pay, or something. . . ;)
And, I dunno. . . wine in a hot tub seems like it would be awfully sticky. . .
The wine is around $36 a bottle. My husband gets me a few bottles at Christmas or for my birthday and I do not share them!
DeleteA torture chamber? Goodness, who is he planning to torture? The murals in the dining hall are amazing. The ceiling's pretty impressive too. Looks like it was another day of some excellent wines....
ReplyDeleteHe was trying to make the place authentic, I guess. It gave me the creeps.
DeleteIt sure looks like you had a lot to see. What a fun time.
ReplyDeleteVery much fun for a wino like me...lol
DeleteEach wine you tasted would taste great in their... hot tub? Did you picture them nude? ;) That's one happy dino.
ReplyDeleteConsidering they were overweight senior citizens, no I did not.
DeleteGood. That means you are sane. ;)
DeleteVery cool! This makes me regret not being into wine when I lived in the Bay Area. What a waste. I was right there!
ReplyDeleteLove Tank, and the private speakeasy.
You would love Tank. They recently posted a photo of Kurt Russell visiting on Instagram.
DeleteI so enjoyed your photo tour. I've never been to Napa and I'm not a big wine drinker but I think it's because I've not had a good wine that I liked yet. The scenery is outstanding and I loved reading about each photo. That Speakeasy was pretty awesome I bet! Great post.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much and thanks for stopping by!
DeleteNow i REALLY need a vacation ... ;-)
ReplyDeleteThe weather has not helped this week!
DeleteMy, goodness, Bijoux, what beautiful photos! Love that castle and the murals in the dining hall. And that gas station winery is off the hook! Now I've GOT to go there!
ReplyDeleteCalifornia is a great destination, year round!
DeleteLooks like an enjoyable trip. Did you bring a cast back with you?
ReplyDeleteIt was fabulous.
DeleteA castle on the west coast! Huh. Who knew? Not me.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous getaway. It looks magnificent. The views are unbelievable. I'm going to have to bookmark these posts for future trip reference. :)
So glad you had such a wonderful time!
I'm sure you have a special anniversary coming up or something!
