Two Reviews . . .

One good and one bad . . .

For a long time, I've wanted to order a canvas made from one of our vacation photos. I've seen it done before (maybe my Blogger friend Secret Agent has done it?) and I always thought it would mean so much more than a canvas you buy at TJ Maxx (though I also have one of those that I like). When we tore down the ugly wallpaper in our half bath and painted, we had one blank wall to work with. This was back in 2014. You know how procrastination works, right? I finally decided that one of our Maui pictures would look just right on the wall. After a lot of research of online canvas companies, I decided to go with CanvasHQ.com. Their prices were middle-of-the road compared to others, but their customer comments all over the web were the highest. And I even found a Blogger who had ordered a bunch of different canvases and liked theirs the best.

Ta-da! Here it is. I'm not sure why the wall looks gray, because it's really a sky blue shade, but trust me when I tell you that I was very happy with the results. The company offers lots of options in size, depth, borders, finishes and effects. After you order, they e-mail you a digital proof for approval before they get started. The packaging it arrived in was very sturdy and even said "FRAGILE - GLASS" on the box. I appreciated the lie! I would highly recommend them if you are ever looking to create some art for your walls.

Now for the bad review. About a week after my father-in-law died, my husband went out to get the newspaper on a Saturday morning and found a box on our front porch, under a fine layer of snow. It turned out to be condolence flowers from a co-worker. And apparently delivered the day before during a snowstorm that we had. We opened the box and the lilies were completely frozen.

I put them in some warm water, hoping to revive them, but no such luck. Thank you, ProFlowers! What pissed me off the most was that at least one of us had been home the entire previous day. No doorbell ring or knock. What florist thinks it's okay to leave flowers on someone's porch during a snowstorm?? I was able to see footprints in the snow along the sidewalk, but none right in front of the door, which leads me to believe the box was just thrown on our porch, with no attempts to knock. You know me, I googled ProFlowers and the number of complaints was astronomical. I considered leaving a nasty post on their Facebook page, along with all the others, or calling them to complain, but I couldn't find an order number in the box. Only the card with the name of the sender, and I didn't want my husband's co-worker to somehow find out about the mishap. Hopefully, word of mouth will eventually put them out of business. One benefit to social media!

  1. 50% isn't that bad...if you are a baseball batter.

  2. You said it, word of mouth can make or break you and with social media the word travels quicker.

The canvas print came out nice.

    1. I think being able to read reviews online is my favorite thing about the Internet. I swear by Trip Advisor.

  3. The canvas print looks great, but that flower screw-up is beyond belief. ProFlowers bites the big one!

    1. You should have seen how many people didn't get their flowers ordered through ProFlowers for Valentine's Day. Apparently, they caused a few breakups! LOL!

  4. First I want to say, BRAVO on the canvas print....it looks FANTABULOUS! A job well done! Love the color of your walls, I could definitely see the shade of blue. And thank you for sharing the name of the canvas company you went with because I've been thinking about getting a few of my photographs made into canvas prints.

Second....ProFlowers sounds AWFUL! And I'm so glad customers are speaking out and making complaints online. I did the same thing when I quit my previous job two years ago. I made a HUGE complaint on a job website, informing potential employees to NOT waste their time applying for a job with that company. And it's funny because my comment on their website got over 200 thumbs-up on agreements from previous employees!

That's the first time I ever did something like that and I'm so glad I did.

Have a great week, my friend!

    1. Thanks, Ron! We were quite pleased with how it turned out! They have promos of 30% off sometimes, so Google before you order.

By any chance, did you complain on Glassdoor? I've checked them out a few times when my daughter was job hunting. I really liked their site. 200 thumbs up is amazing!

  5. Love the print ...

Proflowers has been chasing me to throw money their way for years but I read the same reviews .....

  6. Beautiful print! I'm sure it brings back fond memories when you see it!

Shame about ProFlowers. I think my sister used them when she would send my flowers (she sent flowers to us every time we moved to a new home, rental or bought. She stopped sending flowers after a bit, guess we moved too often). Anyway, the flowers always came perfectly, but of course I work at home usually by a window where I can see a delivery being made. Interesting fact in Arizona with the heat (this has nothing to do with your entry by the way) some wineries won't deliver to Phoenix because of said heat. Pretty much year round. I can see it could be a disaster to do so.

    1. Hey Betty! I've noticed that many wineries say they won't ship in the summer. Last fall, we ordered a case when we were in Napa and even then, they shipped in a box that had special refrigeration packets inside. Precious cargo......LOL!

  7. Those prints really do turn out nice, forget who I used a while ago, could have been them.

Proflowers sure don't sound long for this world with that business attitude.

    1. I like the canvas because it looks like art and the bonus is not having to find a frame for an enlarged photograph.

  8. Oh if there's one thing I hate it's those delivery people who throw a package in front of your door and leave without even knocking. I live in an apartment complex and am always home so this really irritates me.

    That print is beautiful.

    1. I know! Makes me mad, too. We don't use our front door that much, so it's irritating that packages can sit there without us knowing.

  9. Nice print!

And yeah, Proflowers is anxious for me to give it a go but the reviews say NO!!!

  11. I think it would be kind of funny if you framed the frozen ProFlowers pic in a CanvasHQ frame. I like the juxtaposition of best-meets-worst.

P.S. Blogger does not like my URL apparently!

    1. I'm sorry as I know you've had trouble with Blogger before. If it's any consolation, I can't find a way to save my info on your blog and have to type it all in each time I comment. Not sure why it's only your blog that makes me do that, unless it has to do with others using Disqus?

    2. P.S. But you're worth it 😉

  12. Oooo!!!! I love your canvas print! It looks fantastic! And the wall definitely looks blue to me. ;)
I just had a canvas printed for Todd's Christmas gift. It was a picture I took of the kids at the cabin (actually, it is my header pic on my blog) and I blew it up really big and put it on a canvas. It turned out perfectly. I was so excited. And it was SO cheap I couldn't believe it. I think it was under $50. And the quality was awesome. :)

That would really miff me about the flowers too. How ridiculous! And the fact that someone was home all day just makes it insane. No ProFlowers for me!

    1. It's one thing to leave an Amazon box at your door, but who thinks leaving fresh cut flowers outside is a good idea in any weather? WACK!

  13. We've had a lot of trouble with flower deliveries. Like your experience, they're sometimes just dumped with no attempt to raise the householder. Or the flowers are already wilting and past their best. Or they substitute something else without telling you. And like you, the recipient may say nothing to avoid embarrassing the sender, so you don't necessarily find out.

A lovely picture to have on your bathroom wall. A constant reminder of great vacations!

    1. Isn't the flower business a bit shady? I prefer to just buy the flowers in person and take them to someone. I once stopped over at a friend's house who had received flowers that I contributed to. I was so disappointed in the display, knowing how much it had cost.

  15. I have a canvas print I'm super happy with. I'm glad yours turned out so well. But that bites about the flowers. You'd think they'd want repeat business more than that!
