Ron Created a Monster

Earlier this year, my friend Ron over at Being Ron, blogged about Bitmoji. At first, I thought it was one of those sites where you upload a photo of yourself. I have not had success in the past with those sorts of site (ex: "What Celebrity Do I Look Like??") because they always compare me to a 20-something Asian male. After the initial WTF? I am flattered by the age; the sex part, not so much!

I'm happy to report that Bitmoji is nothing like that. You actually create your character yourself by choosing hair, skin color, body type, clothing, etc.  It reminded me of another site from a few years ago, where it created a Peanuts character based on information you provided. Mine turned out to look a little too much like Marcie for my taste, but what can you do?

I was interested in trying Bitmoji because I was so impressed with how much Ron's character looked like him, so once I broke down and finally bought a smartphone this summer, it was time to test some new apps! And now I'm terrorizing my family and friends with my cartoon character self . . .

What I send my spouse on Friday afternoons

What I sent my friend when I heard she was running for school board

What I sent my son when he said he was coming home early from work one day. I discovered a week later that he had copied our texts to Twitter with the title, "Thanks, Mom." Because college kids love to make fun of their parents' texts on Twitter.

What I sent to my son with an "R U?" on the morning of his flight home from a week in San Francisco. He replied, "Ok, Mom. My flight is not for 5 more hours."

My oldest daughter is sick of being pregnant, so I sent this to her. It's from me to the baby.

My husband puts up with a lot of my rants. My latest was about what a rip off The Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper is. The paper keeps getting smaller, they now only have a print edition 3 days/week, and delivery service sucks. I told him this is what it feels like to be a subscriber.

And this is what it feels like to fly the friendly skies of United Airlines!

I'm convinced my Bitmoji character is much more fun than I am!

  1. Funny you should post this. My coworkers just got me into Bitmoji, too! Actually, they had to create one for me as I just wasn't interested. But like you, I have to admit, it's pretty fun. Enjoy!

    1. I didn't really think it would be as funny to me as it is. I actually really do LOL every time I find an appropriate one to go with my text! Now I want to see yours!

  2. lmao you sure are having lots of fun with it. At least with the newspaper you have something in a pinch. Should TP ever run out. Or you don't want to use your tp made of money.

    1. Well, I feel as though I'm flushing $ down the toilet by subscribing to the paper, but I can't talk my husband into canceling it.

    4. Yeah, I've been ready to ditch our paper for years now but the rest of the family insist on at least having weekend service. Which, um, they seldom read unless bargain hunting. Yet they also get the same ads online during the week so .....

    5. I'm married to someone who reads the sports section twice on Sunday. I've never opened that section once in my life.

  3. My stepdaughter and I did Bitmoji texts for a couple of week, but I got bored quickly and had to stop! I also rarely use emojis, except for hearts. I tend to stick with what now seem quaintly old-fashioned - emoticons. :-)

    Bwhahahahahaha! OMG...that CRACKED ME UP!

Don't ya LOVE playing around with Bitmoji? After someone at work told me about it, I became addicted. Even now, because they update the scenes every week, I keep checking for new ones to send to my friends.

The ones you made are FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABULOUS! OMG...they are so cute! The one of you on the loo is HILARIOUS! And of course, as you know, the middle finger gesture is my all time favorite hand move - ha!

You're right, it blows me away by how much Bitmoji looks like YOU!

AWESOME post, my friend! Keep on enjoying Bitmoji!

  14. I doubt your Bitmoji character is more fun than you are. I can identify with the on-the-toilet character. That's how it feels waiting for our dreadful government to be replaced.

    1. Well, I do feel as though the govt here wastes our tax dollars, so the TP made of money is appropriate.

  16. You're much more fun than any Bitmoji character--but having said that, I really loved these images! It's amazing what you can do with an app. Btw, I can't believe what's happening to the Plain Dealer. As a former newspaper reporter, that sad news indeed. But luckily we have Bitmoji!

    1. The PD has been gradually pissing us off for about two years. I think there will not be a true paper edition by 2020. Thankfully, the library system is still going strong.
