| We wrapped up the day at Trefethen. Their tasting room is brand new, as the original was severely damaged in the earthquake of 2014. It was a very nice seated tasting on the second floor, in an industrial style room. We shared the tasting and my husband didn't care for the wines, but I thought they were fine. We spent the evening with a final stroll around Yountville and an Italian dinner outdoors at Redd Wood. After a leisurely breakfast the next morning at our B&B, my husband dropped me off at the airport and was on his way to his conference. It was a lousy trip home (thanks, United Airlines!) but in a strange twist of fate (that we knew ahead of time) a friend of mine and her husband were on my flight, so at least I had someone to hang out with at the airport. |
Got to love those airlines mucking things up. But geez, you should have been so drunk after all that tasting that you never even noticed haha I knew most of the songs, but no idea on most of the bands they are from. Sure so much to see. Biking in heat? Yeah, not for me.
ReplyDeleteMy blood pressure goes up just driving by an airport these days. You're a young whippersnapper, that's why you don't know the bands!
DeleteI'm getting a chuckle from the idea of a Merlot named 'Purple Haze'. . .
ReplyDeleteLol, yes, clever indeed!
DeleteAnother great story, another set of faaaaaaabulous photographs! Knowing how much you and I both LOVE wine, I would love to do a wine tasting with you and your husband one day. Wouldn't that be FUN?
ReplyDeleteI got such a kick out of reading the songs on that place mat, what a hoot! All those songs are from MY generation.
And OMG...the photo of your lunch/snack at Domaine Chandon looks like heaven on earth to me! It's doesn't get any better than cheese, bread, olives, nuts and some wine/or bubbly. I would have loved that!
Thanks again for sharing your trip, thoroughly enjoyed! Glad you had company on the plane. Isn't flying such a hassle?
I'm so glad you enjoyed my trip via the photos. That lunch was sooooo good. Such a relaxing time. Unfortunately, I could write an entire post on my United experience, but I just want to forget about it. When I got home though, I did write a nasty online review to get out my frustration. And omg, I was not alone! They are the worst.
DeleteSounds like a lovely time except for the trip home but even then you made the best of it. Nice to see a photo of you!
ReplyDeleteI throw one in every once in a while!
DeleteYou both had an excellent trip to Napa, even the not so good wines were made tolerable by the surroundings, air travel isn't as good as it used to be but at least you got home safely and ended up with some friends along for the ride.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, Jimmy, even bad wines in good surroundings aren't all that bad!
DeleteThird time was the charm indeed :) Sounded like a great day! I've been to Franciscan years ago. We liked their wines (we still do, but we tend to rarely drink them these days). Sorry for the icky flight home, but glad you had the time with hubby for the exploring you did.
ReplyDeleteIt would be a kick if you ever did Temecula wineries to let me know in time so we could plan a trip there (5 hours from where we live). We could hit a few wineries together :)
betty
I'm going to have to buy a bottle of Franciscan sometime. I honestly don't know if I've ever had it. That would be fun to meet up!
DeleteEarthquakes have have zero respect for great wines. It's downright rude. Having said that... look at you sitting in the sun. And check out those surroundings... absolutely breathtaking. Well, good for you. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's fun to live the 1% life, every once in a while!
DeleteI can only imagine :)
DeleteEarthquakes can really ruin a nice place. Looks like you had a great time.
ReplyDeleteI'm always a little nervous in San Fran!
DeleteWow, Bijoux, this sounds like a fabulous trip! I love the photos and how nice to have your friend and her husband on the flight. Great times!
ReplyDeleteThere's a feeling of security when you know someone on your flight. Also, when you're stuck in an airport for 7 hours.
DeleteObviously a rewarding day that made up for the disappointments of day two. I love the vineyard blocks named after popular songs - did you try Stairway to Heaven?
ReplyDeleteI can't believe how young you look....
Thanks, Nick. I'm hoping people think my grandson is my baby...,,joking!
DeleteYour lunch looks lovely! And I do appreciate the vineyard blocks named after songs. Can't go wrong with the American Girl/Light My Fire harvests, I'll bet!
ReplyDeleteFun stuff, for sure.
DeleteOoh, I love bubby and port!! Goodness woman, this trip... wow! Enjoyable! Thanks for sharing all the nice photos. You look happy and relaxed.
ReplyDeleteLovely hair color, too. ;)
Why thank you!
DeleteI love the looks of your lunch! I'm not sure I could keep balance on a bike after one or two tastings. I'd have to drive (well, my husband would drive).
ReplyDeleteSorry you had such a bad experience with your flight. Being stuck in an airport for 7 hours is not fun. But it's better than being stuck on a plane without AC for 7 hours...
I know, right? It is just terrible how airlines are treating customers.
DeleteI could eat that for lunch every day!
That really does look perfect. I think winery-touring is one of my all-time favorite things.
ReplyDelete(And that's a great photo of you!)
DeleteIt's definitely our favorite thing. We just tried a new one this past weekend. The owner's father has a vineyard north of Napa, so she gets her grapes from there. We enjoyed a great bottle of Zin outdoors while listening to live music.
DeleteAnd thanks!
Wow! Beautiful vineyards!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovey photo of you.
I'm sorry the flight home was crappy. That's not a great way to end a vacation. But as you said, at least you had a friend there with you. ;)
Thanks, Kat.
