There were lots of different games to play. We did a few of the $20 wine pulls. I was surprised to get such nice bottles of wine, but all of the prizes were donated, so a win/win for both us and the organization. In addition, there was a craft beer pull (6 packs hidden in large gift bags), and mystery bags for $20 each. The mystery bags had gift certificates for everything from Subway to spa treatments. We didn't think we'd use any of the certificates, so we skipped that. Other ways to win prizes involved raffle baskets, silent auctions and sideboards. We purchased a bunch of the sideboard numbers, but didn't win.
At 7 pm, we headed for the ballroom, where dinner was to be served to the nearly 750 attendees. The emcee for the evening was a local TV anchor. There was a dance performance by a local academy of down syndrome dancers, followed by a sit down meal. I had a nice time chatting with the couples on either side of us at the table. Afterwards, there was a DJ with dancing. It was a very nice evening, getting dressed up and going downtown. I especially liked that not only was the gala attended by supporters, but also by people with down syndrome.

Delightful! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome!
DeleteSounds like a great event!! Did you get your picture taken on the red carpet?? If I lived in your area, I would definitely want to attend. I have a nephew with Down syndrome. My gosh, I just realized he will be 40 years old this year. Anyway, he's a delightful man who knows a lot of scripture verses, not only memorized but understands what they mean and can quote other scriptures to explain the one he is explaining at the time. I would imagine his parents would also enjoy attending such an event.
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing; brought a smile to my face!
betty
No, we skipped the photo op! One of the facts I learned was that life expectancy has increased from 25 yrs in 1983 to 60 today. I find that phenomenal! And I'm proud of your nephew! He sounds like an amazing person.
DeleteOMG...I love the red carpet area. How brilliant was that! It's like going to a Hollywood movie premier or an Academy Award Night!
ReplyDeleteBeing a wine lover, I would have really enjoyed the Wine Pull!
Sounds like you had a GREAT evening. And to top it off, it was for a very wonderful and important cause.
Bravo, my friend! Hope you're having a fantastic week!

I am having a wonderful week, Ron. We really enjoyed ourselves and hope to find more events for my 'new things in 2019.' Looking forward to your next post!
DeleteWhat a great organization. Sounds like there was quite the turn out.
ReplyDeleteI know, we had no idea that so many people would be there.
DeleteVery impressive. I hope they raised plenty of money. Behind the red carpet they should have had a photo of some glamorous film star, so it looked like you were following them in!
DeleteWith the number in attendance, I'm sure they made a nice amount of money. This was the second annual gala.
DeleteWow, awesome camouflage!! I looked at that red carpet picture hard and long, couldn't find you or the hubby for nothing ......
ReplyDelete:-)
I really hate having my picture taken.
DeleteYou and Queenie both.!!
DeleteSure a big turn out. Grand cause indeed and sounds like a fun evening. But no red carpet photo? Geez, the paparazzo will be after you now.
ReplyDeleteLol, I don't want to be featured on the society pages! How did I get this old?
DeleteSounds like a wonderful evening and for a good cause.

DeleteWhat a great idea for a fundraiser!
ReplyDeleteIt's always nice to get dressed up for a special event.
DeleteWhat a great event, and like you said, a win/win for everybody! How was the wine?
ReplyDeleteWe haven't opened either of the bottles. One was Girard, which is a nice Napa wine. The other was Josh, I think.
DeleteSounds like a great evening, Bijoux, and a most worthy cause. Excellent job!
ReplyDeleteIt was fun to support a good cause and do something new!
Deletewonderful evening...
