Next stop was another place we'd heard about for a few years: Lilly's Handmade Chocolates. As you can see from the display case, it's chocolate heaven. Not a ton of samples, but I did get to try a chunk of pistachio/cranberry chocolate and a chocolate covered cherry. It's pricey, being handmade, and most pieces were between $2 - $3.50. I bought 4 pieces that my husband and I cut in half to try. The best one had a coconut filling in dark chocolate (similar to a Reese's cup) and topped with toasted coconut.
I also bought this bag of pecans. OMG, they are FABULOUS! Dark chocolate, booze and nuts . . . can't go wrong with that combo! Two women run the business and the one that helped us that day was just as jovial as you would imagine a chocolatier to be!
Our last stop of the day was Metropolitan Coffee.
I treated myself to a chai latte. This was the view from the sofa where we sat. It had a very neat vibe and I hope to introduce the place to some other friends. A great day of trying new places! |
Cheese samples, handmade chocolate and cherry blossoms. Sure looks like you had a good time.
ReplyDeleteIt was one of the most fun days I've had in a while.
DeleteHa! Being a New York lover, I love the name....Old Brooklyn!
ReplyDeleteThe first picture of the Japanese cherry blossoms is stunning! Aren't they one of the most beautiful tree blossoms? I just wish they would last longer (like ALL summer). I love the white blossoms best of all because when the petals fall, it looks like snow.
I would have gone insane in that cheese company because I adore cheese. I could literally eat cheese until I explode! Hey, that strawberry basil jam sounded delicious!
"Dark chocolate, booze and nut" That sounded delicious as well!
We have Metropolitan Coffee here in Philly as well. We have Metropolitan Coffee and Bakery Shops. The coffee and baked goods are incredible!
Thanks for sharing, my friend. Have a faaaaaabulous weekend! X
All the trees this year have been just gorgeous, although I'm having allergy problems for the first time in my life. Weird, huh? And I didn't think that Metropolitan was a chain! That's interesting, I will have to look at their website to see. Have a great weekend, too.
DeleteSure sounds like you had a grand time indeed and sure indulged a bit. Never knew they could do so much with cheese. And yeah, the cat has noticed how they use new everywhere, even though they are no longer that new.
ReplyDeleteThey are turning everything into gourmet food these days, even beef jerky!
DeleteI have never heard about it, interesting place to visit☺ Have a lovely weekend ☺☺
ReplyDeleteThanks, Natalia.
DeleteWe've (er, I've) been slowly populating the yard with flowering trees but due to resistance have not been successful at getting them concentrated like that. That is stunning, even in a boring park!! ;-)
ReplyDeleteQueenie may have to 'stumble upon' that cheese house and chocolatier. She loves her some cheese and chocolate!!
Can't afford coffee shops like that. Queenie can, I can't :-)
The flowering trees have been especially beautiful this year. We have two different shades of pink dogwoods in our front yard and I love them.
DeleteDark chocolate Grand Marnier pecans. . . Mmmmmmmmm. . .
ReplyDeleteAnd you better keep me away from that chocolate shop. . .
I love to do the 'tourist in your own town' kind of thing. There's a part of OurTown that's known as 'Old Town'; sort of a 'time capsule' back into the 20s/30s - 'quaint' old shops and restaurants (with a more 'eco-greenie' vibe. . .)
Isn't it fun to find new places close to home? I would enjoy Old Town for sure!
DeleteThose Japanese cherry blossom trees look fantastic. Now, let's talk handmade chocolates...
ReplyDeleteChocolates are such a special treat.
DeleteCheese, chocolate and coffee. You pretty much hit the trifecta.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget the flowering trees!
DeleteCheese is the reason I'm not able to go completely vegan. I've tasted loads of vegan cheeses and they're never anything like "real" dairy cheese. In fact they taste disgusting! We could do with some specialist cheese shops in our neighbourhood, so I could sample a few new ones for a change.
ReplyDeleteThe chocolates look amazing. We have a Hotel Chocolat in Belfast and I really should visit them more often. I love every variety of chocolate - white, milk, dark, plain, flavoured, whatever.
My next post is actually on the topic of why I can't go vegan. Cheese is high up on the list of whys! I enjoy any chocolate as well, but dark is my fave.
DeleteCheese, chocolate, coffee, you can’t go wrong

A fun day for us.
DeleteChocolate and cheese! What can be a better day! I too would have had to sample a lot of the cheese. Such pretty blossoms too!
ReplyDeletebetty
They were so nice to us at the cheese shop.
DeleteI love visiting places like Old Brooklyn Cheese Company. Not only am I a sucker for cheese, but also for pickles and mustard. Tara is always telling me I have too many of both, but I say, there's no such thing.
ReplyDeleteYou sound like my son-in-law. He loves any and all specialty condiments.
DeleteOld Brooklyn?!? I love it! Brooklyn NY has gotten so gentrified and millennial-ed that I like to tell people I'm from "Old Brooklyn."
ReplyDeleteThe cherry blossoms look beautiful. The cherry blossom season recently passed here in New York and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden has a great display, but it gets incredibly crowded with entire tour groups coming over from Japan.
This sounds like such a cool area. I love cheese, so I'd probably go nuts in that cheese place. And don't get me started on chocolate!
Sounds like another great adventure, Bijoux!
I like that you tell people you are from Old Brooklyn! Wow! I wouldn't think that Japanese would travel here to see their own native trees. It must be a magnificent display.
DeleteEverything sounds wonderful - but I really would have gone crazy in that chocolate shop!
ReplyDeleteThe chocolate shop was over the top decadence.
DeleteI love chocolate
Delete"Japanese cherry blossom trees were blooming" look so wonderful...
ReplyDeletelove it
