My son got married on Saturday! Attending a wedding in an office building was definitely a new experience for me and not something I would have predicted when I began this blog series in January.

| Seemingly random office building where one can show up with a marriage license and be wedded within 5 minutes. Middle Child came with my husband and me and was as confused as we were. We thought it was going to be more like a wedding chapel in Vegas. We rode the elevator up to the second floor with the bride, groom, and 5 of their friends. It took place in a little office suite. You show the woman at the desk your ID, marriage license, and pay the $55 fee. I thought an officiant would come out of one of the back rooms, but the woman at the desk just stood up and started the 'ceremony.' She told us we were not permitted to take photos of her, so she was no where near the bride and groom while reading her script. She reminded me of someone you might see on Live PD, so I was okay with that! |

It took all of one minute. I have to say, I was happy that my son and his bride wore wedding attire. Initially, they talked about just showing up in jeans. What you see is all there was, besides a Christmas tree in the right corner. The desk was to the left. The rest of us (8 guests) were squeezed near the door. Honestly, the space was smaller than any doctor's office waiting area I've ever been.

Sounds like my kind of wedding. $55, a few minutes, and done. No muss or fuss. 8 months is plenty of time for a reception. I say not knowing if it is true lol
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely enough time to plan. I'm more sentimental and prefer to hear actual vows that have some meaning, rather than a drive thru, but I had my wedding 33 years ago😂
DeleteSo are you saying you are out of touch? lol
DeleteNo way! Lol, I just meant I had my turn to do my own wedding. Can't pick for others, as much as I'd like to!
DeleteWell, that certainly is a quick, inexpensive, no-nonsense way to get married - and I love it!! There's no need to go through a huge, expensive, complicated ordeal.
ReplyDeleteAnd the celebration afterwards at the Cafe Istanbul sounds wonderful!
It was a fun, unique restaurant and fit in with their love of food and travel.
DeleteCONGRATULATIONS to your son and his wife, and to you and your husband!
ReplyDeleteHey, I think it's awesome how they got married. I mean, when you have your loved ones around you, what else do you need? It's not the "place" that matters, it's the LOVE.
Okay, and I love the look of Cafe Istanbul. WOW...very nice! Cozy! It looks like the perfect place to have a wedding celebratory meal. Love the lighting!
The food looked deeeeeeelicious!
Again, congrats, my friend! X
Thank you so much, my friend. Unfortunately, there was some drama because he didn't tell his oldest sister about the wedding. She was hurt to be left out, even though it would have been difficult for her to make it, with two little kids. Oh well, it wouldn't be family without the drama!
DeleteCongrats to your son and his bride!! Wishing them wonderful years together! That was a quick way to get married! Certainly something they won't forget with the brevity of it! Cafe Istanbul looked very charming!! Great place for the celebration especially hearing about all that wonderful food! Good for you too, you almost made it through the year with something new every week! Great work! Going to continue the theme for 2020?
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas!
betty
Thanks, Betty. My blogger friends are being so positive! Lol, it seemed extremely forgettable to me, except for the weirdness factor. I did enjoy the meal afterwards. Nope, not going to continue the theme in 2020.
DeleteCongrats to the Mum, Mum-in-law and all!! Oddkin's second marriage will likely not be any more involved than that ... we're just hoping it happens in the not-too-distant future. They're spending a FORTUNE on gas 'case he's vehicle-less (which I'm OK with, it's so he can afford to better provide for his son-with-the-ex. He's taking care of business).
ReplyDeleteAnd I trust no matter how quick and fuss-less this wedding was, you'll not soon forget it. I mean, it happened right? And they're kinda gonna be together as a reminder ... ;-)
You're alive!!!
DeleteBarely ...... storIES to come.
DeleteCongrats to them. Yeah I've been in some f the wedding chapels here in Vegas and some are really nice. But we also have the drive up wedding widow. The reception place looks really nice though.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mary. I thought we'd be in a room like a Vegas chapel. This was just an office waiting area.
DeleteI have never heard of that kind of wedding - sounds good to me - if they are really married! lol The dinner sure looks great.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I did sort of wonder about the legality! But I guess the license was signed, so that's it.
DeleteAll the best to the newly married couple. In the UK now you can get married just about anywhere you like - in an office, in a church, on a roller coaster, you name it! As you know, Jenny and I just had a simple register office wedding and a slap-up meal with our two witnesses afterwards.
ReplyDeleteEight months before the wedding reception? That's a long time.
Thanks, Nick. We have attended more outdoor weddings than indoor over the last decade or so. I love the idea, but I don't trust the weather! The eight month wait is for when her parents will be able to travel to attend.
DeleteHeh; I know that song. . . (and God bless FADKOG, whatever she's up to these days. . .)
ReplyDeleteI loves me some Mediterranean food. . .
And congrats to the loving couple. So romantic. . . ;)
Yeah, someone else knows the song! I can't even think of Istanbul without Constantinople! I also only think of a song when I hear Bangkok!
DeleteIsn't Med food the best? And thanks, we're just happy they decided to make it official ;)
I laughed at your Live PD comment! I wonder what she thought you would do with her picture... lol Did you have to pay them to do the ceremony? Even if it was less than a minute, you think they could have done a little something to make it special. I do find it wonderful that they are marrying to be with each other and not because of the fantasy surrounded by the big ceremony. Congratulations to you and your family. Here's to many years of happiness for the couple!
ReplyDeleteGlad someone else knows what Live PD is! I have a running joke with my husband about Sticks Larkin/Stick Larkins/Stix Larson, as I never get it right! LOL!
DeleteYes, the one minute or less script ceremony was $55. I guess them providing that arch was the special part!!! Sorry, but the whole thing was wack to me. My husband kept telling me to "be positive" LOL
Well, if they're happy, that's all that matters. But, between you and I, I'd at least want a rug to walk down the "aisle"... lol
DeleteExactly!
DeleteFor some reason, I had a problem posting here the other day. Congratulations to your son and I like the title!
ReplyDeletewww.thepulpitandthepen.com
Thanks, Jeff. Another blogger emailed me that he had issues as well. I have no idea why.
DeleteCongrats to your son and the new DIL!
ReplyDelete(I had that song stuck in my head a lot when I was in Istanbul.)
Thank you. It's an unusual song. Last time I as in the Big Apple, Empire State of Mind by Jay Z and Alicia Keys was on loop in my head.
DeleteI've never thought the venue, ceremony, or attire were very important; it's the person you're choosing to spend your life with that matters more than anything else. BIG CONGRATULATIONS to your son and the new addition to your family!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mark. We're still having trouble remembering he's married!
DeleteCongratulations to you and your son on his wedding!
ReplyDeleteThat's my kind of wedding! I think the wedding is waaaay less important than the marriage.
Thank you for keeping up with my posts!
