Photo Friday: But You’ve Got No Destination

Part II of Covid Walks 2020

I'm not a fan of huge garden statues like this, but the flowers were pretty on her head and beside her.

This fake cemetery in someone's front yard amused me all of October.

Remember when all that smoke from the west coast headed east? This is what the sun looked like here for a number of days.

A pretty sunrise I captured from my front yard.

A neighbor had a half dozen huge pumpkins in their front yard that the deer went to town on.

This was at a park I drove to. I met a friend and she took me on a path I'd never been. I have never seen a time capsule buried under a marker like this. You'd think there would be a concern about it being stolen when they make it this obvious!

Aren't these purple berries on this bush delightful?

This house had the most beautiful display of zinnias that lasted a long time. And I believe that's a fake stained glass window. It looks like one of those plastic stick on things.

I loved walking by this Williamsburg Colonial when the tree color was at its height. Red, yellow and orange on full display.

This caught my eye on a regular basis. It looks like corn growing next to the light post at the end of this person's driveway.

I was super excited to see this sculpture because I admired similar ones at an art studio we visited a few years ago. I haven't walked by recently, but I wonder if they took it inside to protect it from the elements.

Why?? Why would you allow this weed to grow next to your mailbox? It seems obnoxious.

Another picture from the park with the time capsule. Looking forward to 2021!

  2. Okay, and when I first saw the second photo down of the cemetery, I literally thought it WAS a cemetery! As you know, I have this "thing" for walking through cemeteries and looking at all the tombstones. I especially like really old cemeteries.

What a stunning sunrise you captured! Don't you love both sunrises and sunsets? They're beautiful.

And you're right about that time capsule, you'd think they'd be paranoid about it being stolen, having it that obvious.

"I loved walking by this Williamsburg Colonial when the tree color was at its height. Red, yellow and orange on full display."

GORGEOUS! It looks like a photo you would see of Vermont in the Fall!

I can't believe that's a "weed" growing next to the mailbox. It's so big that I thought it was some kind of exotic bush. LOL!

That final shot of the walkway going to the lake is such a stellar capture!

I so enjoy taking these walks with you! One day when we meet in person, we have got to take a long walk somewhere. Can you imagine the two of us in New York City?!?!

Have a great weekend, my friend. X

    1. Isn’t that cemetery lawn crazy? The funny thing is that the people living there look older than us, so they can’t have kids living there! I guess they just like looking at a graveyard from their front window! That house with the autumn colors does look like Vermont (though I’ve never actually been there). I just loved how it looked. We would kill the Big Apple, Ron! Hope your weekend is a winter wonderland!

  3. I'm hysterical laughing at the obnoxious weed!! Maybe they planted it on purpose? Maybe they like weeds? Maybe it will bloom into a beautiful flower? Or, maybe they hate their mailbox? lol The time capsule is actually pretty cool! I wonder how long it's been there?

    1. We have that exact same weed growing on a hill next to our driveway. When we moved here, I thought it was an exotic plant, and was excited to see it flower because there were yellow buds on top. Unfortunately, every year it falls over and dies! Lol, it’s along the deer path, so I think they step on it. I can’t find anything about it online.

I think the time capsule was put there in 2000. Did you do one in school that year? One of my kids did and we opened it in 2010. It was funny stuff about their favorite things, etc.

    2. If we did, I don't really remember it. I remember my English teacher in 8th grade had us create something similar to a time capsule that he mailed to us after graduation. That was pretty cool to see. Mine was filled with SUM41 gear and doodles.

    3. SUM41!!! I remember that band! That would be fun to receive in the mail - a blast from the past. My oldest loved The Starting Line .

    2. I bet they aren't happy you called it fake stained glass and that it looks like those plastic stick on things. They probably spent days doing that! Lol.

    3. Lol, probably not, but it’s clearly not a stained glass window!

  5. I don't like fake stained glass as much as I don't like those stupid peel and stick backsplash tiles for the kitchen. They just look cheap. I do love that yard cemetery! A time capsule marker? Must be like me and knew they would forget where it was buried unless it was very clearly marked LOL

    1. I’ve heard of those tiles but not seen any actually used. I need a marker for lots of stuff these days!

    2. We toured a house that was for sale earlier this year. They wanted over 400K for it and I couldn't believe they had those cheap ass stickers on the kitchen walls. For that kind of money, real tiles should have been in the kitchen!

    3. That’s crazy, but people are cheap!

  6. In these days of not going anywhere far, just taking images of what is in sight on a walk is quite interesting. I too wondered about the Time Capsule and perhaps it is buried deeper than could be easily dug up and also wondered What is it for...do you have any idea yourself? A cemetery, fake or otherwise, is not something I would like to see out my window, although like Ron I always enjoy walking in the "real" ones, just don't want to a resident.

    1. I just looked up the info on the time capsule. It was buried during the town’s bicentennial celebration in 2018 and contains modern day items particular to the town. I like walking through cemeteries as well as visiting the online via findagrave and billiongraves in search of my ancestors.

  8. That looks like a cool park. But yeah, how has some teen not dug that time capsule up?

The plant with the purple berries is an American beautyberry, a native plant. I've planted one in every yard I've had. The leaves are said to be a mosquito repellant.

    1. I’ve never seen that bush at a garden store, but I’d buy one of they are deer resistant! Gorgeous!

  9. The cemetary looked real. They must have had fun putting that up. Great shot of the bridge too. I wonder if anyone has tried to dig up the time capsule.

  10. Nice assortment of photos. I really like the Williamsburg colonial photo. What if the neighbor was confessing to something sinister with the headstones and everyone just assumed it was for decoration and amusement... I know, that was awful of me. Couldn't resist.

  11. Excellent photos, Bijoux! You're a very talented photographer.

I'm by that time capsule marker. I didn't think people actually did that kind of thing. I wonder what's in that time capsule. And I wonder if there are plans to dig it up...

    Take care!

    1. I looked it up and the time capsule was in celebration of that town’s bicentennial. They put things in relevant to the town, but I’m not sure what that would be? Maybe maps, photos, etc. Have a great week!

  12. Another interesting little tour. The time capsule has got me thinking - what would I put in one myself? A bottle of covid vaccine? A smartphone? A pair of distressed jeans?

The fake cemetery is fun. And I like the sculpture - it looks so delicate and graceful.

  14. I love the zinnias and the fall colored trees. I think the 'corn' might be a weed. Funny about the time capsule marker; It's screaming "DIG HERE AND OPEN UP"

    1. I think the corn was probably a weed, but I’ll never understand people who let a weed get that monsterous!

  16. The fake cemetery is really cool! I kind of want to do that for Halloween now.

  17. Great photos! After Halloween, we just tossed our pumpkins in the backyard and let the deer go to town on them. I assume they finally finished 'em off, but our yard is currently buried in snow so it's impossible to know for sure.
