Weekend Update: Random Time

Here’s some randomness from my screen to yours:

This happened last July. I was dining outdoors with friends on a patio. The restaurant had attempted to extend their outdoor seating by putting tables in the parking lot. At 5:30 pm, this truck pulls up and proceeds to dump hot tar and gravel next to this table of women. We all just watched, dumbfounded. The woman standing was saying, “Welp, that’s 2020 for you!” Note the other two women just continued to drink their wine and watch the workers. LOL!

I love discovering weird named bands on Sirius.

This is our winter view from the kitchen window. The neighbor behind us has two presumably stolen street signs hanging on his shed. One is a deer crossing sign and the other says One Lane Road Ahead. Last Fall, we lost two trees during a wind storm, so my husband cut them into logs and we stacked them neatly. The guy had the nerve to come outside and ask us to not stack the wood too high because he and his wife like to enjoy their backyard view. WTF? Their view of our house? I guess he didn’t like the other wood piles we had previously made over the past few years. Can’t wait for more trees to fall so we can build a wall!

Speaking of trees, I park by this Pin Oak when I’m picking Middle Child up from work.  It’s March and it still has most of its leaves. We had a huge Pin Oak in front of our last home and my husband hated it for that reason.

If you’re ever looking for a good laugh, I highly recommend google reviews.  Especially the local places you patronize but don’t recommend! Here’s one for the Target I go to.

My son sent me this picture from his local library. They REALLY don’t want people sitting down anywhere during Covid. Note the Clean computer screen!

Another photo, courtesy of my son. He loves to shop at the Asian Market and find products lost in translation.

We grow marigolds in pots outdoors all summer because they are hardy and the deer don’t like them. I decided to save some seeds and try to grow some indoors. I started these November 1st and finally got some blooms.

It’s now been exactly one year since we’ve eaten inside a restaurant. This is the table setting from our ‘last supper’ in Key Biscayne. I thought the orchids were lovely. We were so innocent back then!

  1. I was just thinking today about how it's been about a year since we've eaten in a restaurant or gone into anyone's home. In January we went to Jamaica and now it's hard to see ahead to when travel will feel safe again.

My neighbor has about twenty (stolen?) street signs on his shed. He's a retired cop. But why in the world would they care about not being able to see into your yard? I don't WANT to see into anyone's yard.

    1. I have zero comprehension on why someone would want to decorate with ugly street signs. I suppose the weirdo behind me thinks he’s clever with the deer crossing sign. We are with you and always looking to plant things to block the neighbors’ yards.

  2. OMG, I am looking at that first photo and feeling the same way that woman is gesturing, like, WTF?!?!?

"Note the other two women just continued to drink their wine and watch the workers. LOL! "

Yes, and that is HILARIOUS!!! I really like those wine glasses, btw!

And very funny name on Sirius!!!

"Can’t wait for more trees to fall so we can build a wall!"

HA! And that's exactly what I would do too. Don't you just love the double standard of some people?

That Target review was stellar! And it made me think that because of COVID and many retailers not accepting "cash" only "card" transactions for almost a year now, it's only going to get worst. Cash will become a relic. I don't use cash anyway. I use my debt card for everything. But I still know what a Susan B. Anthony is.

That final photo so beautiful. And you're right, we were so innocent back then.

Thanks so much for sharing the laughs, my friend. Really enjoyed this post while having my morning coffee! X

    1. I’m so happy to hear that you enjoyed this with your coffee! I have started paying with cash again, as people are becoming more relaxed and less worried that everything is contaminated. If it’s under $20, I use cash. I also try to pay cash at restaurants because I don’t like my card being taken out of my hand, but that’s been awhile now! Hope you have a ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ weekend!😎

  3. SMH on the dollar coins. . . Altho, I wouldn't be spending the SBAs; you could probably sell 'em to a coin shop for a bit more, if they're in decent condition. . .

The guy who sells the Quail Eggs evidently likes his candy like he likes his women - spicy/naughty. . .

I've dined-in at a restaurant a few times, but always for breakfast. Last time was a couple weeks ago, just after the governess gave her limited OK again. I had forgotten my mask, so the hostess shooed me outside and offered to sell me a mask for 60 cents, which offer I accepted. She then walked me 20 feet or so to my table and poured coffee, at which time the mask came off, and remained off until I went to the station to pay my bill when I was done. So I guess that 60 cents covered 40 feet, and maybe a total of one minute's worth, of ambulatory protection. But hey, I've got another mask to add to my collection. . .

    1. My kids might have a few SBA’s given to them by a relative that are just sitting collecting dust. Translations are so funny sometimes.

So, you’ve experienced Covid Theatre? I don’t think it takes an infectious control doctor to realize the mask does nothing merely walking from point A to B. I’m not willing to take a chance sitting inside for an hour with people eating, but I haven’t had Covid or the vax yet!

  5. Heaven knows why someone would object to a small pile of logs in their neighbour's garden. Re the sacajawea dollars, when I visit England, shop assistants often look askance at my Northern Ireland banknotes, even though they're pounds sterling the same as the pounds sterling in England. Very tiresome.

We went to our favourite local restaurant in September when it reopened briefly before the next lockdown. I was hoping for a birthday meal there on March 20 but it'll be closed for some time yet.

    1. That’s funny about the banknotes. I’d think they’d be used to it. Oh, that’s too bad about the upcoming birthday. Mine’s in May, so it’s a maybe for me.

  6. Ritt Momney is genius. I love clever band names. I'm going to have to check them out on Spotify.

LOL at your comment about building a wall. I'd probably have the same attitude if I were you!

  9. Omgosh. I'm totally with the women who continued drinking. That would've so been me but probably with a glass in each hand!

I love finding new Indie bands on Spotify or YouTube. So much talent out there.

Okay, your neighbor is a flippin' creeper. I would most definitely build that wall. In the meantime, if that window gets sun I'd put a mirror in it facing their way! Freaks...

I LOVE reading reviews and I always wonder what people think when they read mine that are usually more of a sarcastic vent. Lol.

Asian markets are the best! Especially for the photo your son sent you. What in the hell is "Naughty Quail Eggs" and did he buy them and if he did, did he try them??? They sound sooo gross.

I've had ZERO luck starting flowers inside, hell, I barely keep my store bought plants alive! Except for my spider plants. Thost are pretty easy. :)

I am sooooo ready to get back to a maskless life. I just want everything opened and let the grown ups choose where they go. Geesh. Hopefully, by this fall... Loved your post, as always. :) Have a great Monday!

    1. Aren’t some reviews hilarious? There was a guy on Trip Advisor who wrote the best travel reviews, but I lost his name. He was SO mean about hotels, and I doubt he was even exaggerating! Lol! I think the naughty eggs were a poor translation for spicy. Would you believe we save our geraniums every year in a paper bag in the basement and then re-pot indoors in March? I think we have some that are 7 years old. They don’t all take, but the majority do!

  10. I always thought oaks just held their leaves until the city (this was when I lived in a city) stopped picking up leaves! Your neighbor's signs are tacky (and probably illegal).

  11. LOL @ "Naughty Quail Egg". You must have a beautiful house if the neighbor really enjoys that view. The Target review made me giggle. I always thought of those coins as collectables and not currency, but I guess she's sort of right? I mean, shouldn't it technically be accepted as a cash payment?

    ReplyDelete

    1. The odd thing is that he doesn’t have much of a view because our house sits so much lower than his (you can’t tell from the photo). He’s mostly looking at our roof. Fortunately, when the leaves are on the trees, we can’t see each other. Yes, i think stores are supposed to accept legal tender, but who has those types of coins sitting around?

  12. I am truly baffled by the scenario described in that Target review. It makes me question what is happening to society. Good post. Loved the naughty quail eggs.

  13. Ritt Momney and Naughty Quail Egg sounds like a great double bill! I would pay a stack of Susan B. Anthony and Sacagawea coins to see them in concert!

Your neighbor complaining about the wood pile sounds like a weirdo. The Last Supper photo makes me sad, but also hopeful for the future.

Thanks for sharing these funky photos. I'm including a link to a Ritt Momney song I found on YouTube. Enjoy...?

WTF to your neighbor wanting a view of your house. I was upset that the neighbor who just bought the house next to ours cut down all of their trees in their back yard since now I can see ALL of the neighbors behind them now. It used to feel so private and now it's just too open, but I'd never say anything since it's their yard to do with as they please. The neighbor behind us hated that we stored a few bags of mulch next to his fence line (on our property) since they keep their yard immaculate (they are retired and work on their yard all day every day). I guess 5 bags of mulch sitting out back was really bringing their property value down LOL

That's great you are seeing blooms on your marigolds. I'm just trying to keep a few house plants alive. I don't think I'd be good at anything beyond that.

    1. The neighbor two houses down from us did the exact thing you described; cut down almost every tree in their backyard. It had to have cost them $25,000 because it took days. They had just moved in, so why buy a house that you don’t like the property? I felt bad for my next door neighbor because she feels like you do with the loss of privacy. Oh brother on the bags of mulch! My daughter has retired neighbors like that who work on their yard everyday. I admit, it’s lovely!

    2. I agree. The first thing I look at when house hunting is the property. I want a yard that's going to be low maintenance but offers a bit of privacy. I cried a few months after we bought our house because the electric company came and told us they had to cut down 4 of our trees in our backyard since they were too close to the power lines. I'm all for getting rid of dead or dangerous trees, but it still broke my heart to see them go.
The backyard neighbors certainly do have a magazine worthy yard, but holy cow does it take up a lot of their time to maintain it!

    3. It is sad to see trees cut down or lost during storms. We were spoiled with our first house because there was no one behind us. Here, at least we have woods in between.

  20. Outdoor dining will be re-opening here in Nashua. While we enjoy the outdoor dining in the nice weather, i will only dine on the sidewalk portion closest to the restaurant. Dining directly on the street is for me too uncomfortable with car fumes and noise. I wonder what the place in the first photo was thinking to have that truck so close to where the women were dining, even if they didn’t seem to mind. Personally, I would have been gone.

    1. Unfortunately, lots of places here resorted to parking lot dining last summer. I’m not a fan of patios that overlook streets or parking lots, but sometimes that’s the only option.
