Normally, I do an annual post about my favorite things. This year deserves the opposite. You’re welcome:
I find popstar Billie Eilish’s voice to be profoundly irritating. Like fingernails on a chalkboard. Or an eyelash on your eyeball. Listening to her other hit, Therefore I Am, conjurs up the image of someone on her death bed, barely gasping final words. But her music videos are mini horror flicks. This cannot be good for any young person’s mental health. Just ugh.
I really wanted to like food trucks, but after about 5 years of random visits, I'm just not impressed. It's glorified, expensive fast food. And not even that fast. A few weeks ago, I was at a brewery and thought it would be fun to try a Cajun food truck. My order took them a half hour, and I was the second person in line when they opened. Six fried shrimp, 1/4 cup of mac-n-cheese, and a teeny portion of iceberg lettuce 'salad' for $15. Nope. It's just never been a good experience for me. My husband agrees.
Trunk or Treat? Just why?? It's advertised as a safe way for kids to trick-or-treat, but I've only ever seen it take place in safe communities. And you know those kids are also going trick-or-treating on the designated night. It just seems to be a way to get more candy. Totally unnecessary.
Speaking of unnecessary, I can't even with the way Martha Stewart cozies up with Snoop Dogg all over the place these days. Who thinks these two are cute?? I would love to hear the story behind the publicist who came up with this dream team after Martha got out of prison. Obviously, someone smoking whatever was in Snoop's pocket.
You know, I have to be completely honest and say that I had no idea who Billie Eilish was/is?!? I have no words about this video, other than I TOTALLY agree with your sentiments. WTF does it even mean?!?! And this is TALENT? OMG...I couldn't even watch the complete video.
Being that I live in a city, food trucks are all over the place. And can you believe that in all my years living in cities, I have never once eaten from a food truck?
Do you know what I'm happy for? That when I was a kid, we did Trick or Treating the REAL way - walking door to door and saying, "Trick or Treat!"
OMG, and this cracked me up...." Obviously, someone smoking whatever was in Snoop's pocket." Hilarious!
Do you know what I find entertaining? That you and I seem to get annoyed at the same things. Which reminds me, I need to post an "I hate these things" post. LOL!
Omg, isn’t that video a horror show? Good grief! I’ll take Britney Spears sex videos over that psycho crap any day! As far as the food truck, you’re not missing much! I LOVED trick-or-treating as a kid. And I had so much fun going with the grandkids last year. It’s still as fun as ever! I can’t wait to read your I Hate post. At least Hello Kitty has gone by the wayside. Have a good rest of your week, Ron.
I'm not into food trucks, but Ron loves the Maine Lobster one and many Sunday afternoons we've driven to the plaza where it parks so he can get some goodies. Sometimes they have a cupcake truck at the site and I tried that one time but it was disappointing.
I think Snoop and Martha are kinda cute together. I have a bottle of wine open now called 19 Crimes Cali Red and Snoop's picture is on the label. Don't know too much about him, don't listen to his rap music, but the wine is good.
I'm with you on Billie Eilish. I watched a documentary on her (time I'll never get back) and I thought it was ironic that she spouts about being 'normal' and within 15 minutes she was dressed head to toe in Louis Vuitton. And her voice. Is she ok? Not sure.
Not a big fan of food trucks either.
Trunk or Treat. We used to do this when my girls were little and I'll tell you why. We live in a rural area. In the 25 years, I've NOT HAD ONE TRICK OR TREATER. It's so far in between houses (some are 2.5 acres, some are 5 acres) and we have no sidewalks or street lights. Super scary. Trunk or treat was the only thing my girls really remember. I have fond memories of my trick or treating all over the 'hood.
I don't get the Martha and Snoop thing either. Someone got a hold of some good cush and had an *idea*
Fun post. I can't think of ONE thing that annoys me right now. I can only think of a lot. LOL
Lol on Eilish’s clothes. So either Walmart hoodies or Louis? Ha! I hadn’t thought of rural areas, but that’s a perfect reason for an alternative to trick-or-treating. It’s all suburbs with sidewalks here. Glad you enjoyed!
I like a couple of Billie Eilish songs but just a couple of them. I like her voice though, it reminds me of a voice that should be on horror movies of mermaids. Yeah, I'm weird.
But you know what I don't like? The new slang words...Sus, Simp and Yeet, ect. I'm too old for all this. lol
A horror movie about mermaids? Lol, that’s great, Mary! Ok, I’ve never even heard of Simp. Yeet, I’ve only heard once or twice. But my oldest kept using ‘suspect’ about 10 years ago, as in ‘That guy is suspect’ which I thought was strange. I guess they’ve now shortened it to just Sus! I actually get a kick out of slang.
Food trucks are the thing I miss most about Portland, but I think theirs were in a league all their own. A delicious, exotic league, filled with delicacies like dumplings and Korean fried chicken and Bahn Mi sandwiches. And boasting clever names like Fried Egg I'm In Love. I doubt any other city has food trucks as good as Portland's!
Being a pessimist, I enjoyed this list more than I should. I am totally with you on food trucks. It just feels like you are taking your chances with food poisoning.
I quite like the Billie Eilish track, but I do dislike singers who whisper the lyrics. Is that supposed to be more heart-felt?
We don't have food trucks round here, or Trunk or Treat, but $15 and a half-hour wait for a modest plateful of food? They're having a laugh.
Most of my hate is reserved for politicians and the media. Especially the media for swallowing so much government propaganda without examining it more closely.
Oh my gosh that video! I lasted about 30 seconds. Life is too short!! We had a similar experience with a food truck over the summer. Your right, too expensive and not good enough for the money! I never hate unless I'm watching the news!
Isn’t that video just wretched? I’m sorry I posted it, but I didn’t think some of my readers would know who she is. Yes, watching the news is too depressing.
It's Ariana Grande for me. My daughter rolls her eyes because as soon as she pops up on the radio, I immediately change it. Her voice irritates the hell out of me. Lizzo, too. I don't know the fascination with her, but it's one I won't be following the crowd on.
We don't have food trucks here, but I wouldn't be opposed to seeing what's on the menu. I'm over fast food chains and chain restaurants. I'd pay a little more to have something more authentic. We were at a community event and my mom was like, "Go get the tacos from the taco truck. They are made from real Mexicans working in there" *here's where I'd insert the forehead slap emoji* Though it was authentic Mexican tacos and they were yummy! I would not be opposed to them parking in front of my house so I could have taco truck tacos every day for lunch.
I generally don’t ever like solo singers, for some reason, so nope to the Ariana. Can we also add that wack Cardi B to the list?? Lol!
We quit going to fast food and chains about 10 years ago. There are too many other better options these days. Real Mexicans? As opposed to fake ones? Oh mom! Hahaha!
My mom is an old school senior citizen and just doesn't know how to speak these days LOL. Yes, we can totally add Cardi B to the list. Jason always complains when she does collaborations with artists he likes because she ruins an otherwise good song. Nikki Minaj, too. Oh, and Beyonce! WTF if the fascination with her!? I liked her in Destiny's Child in the 90's, but boy she sure showed her ugly side when Jennifer Hudson hit the scene and started stealing her thunder!
I have to say I'm not a fan of Billie Eilish, her voice just isn't all that strong to me. but I love Ariana and Lizzo. That's not to say I like all their songs, even though I have their albums, but both are great singers I think.
I'm hating on all Bond films, I just don't understand their appeal.
Bond films is an interesting hatred. I remember enjoying the original ones from the 60’s when I was in high school on late night TV. They seemed retro and cool. I’ve never watched one since!
Here's what's irritated me over the past few months: endless news coverage on Brittany Spears and any other pop celebrity. None of these deserves to have so much media attention taking away from much better human interest stories about non-famous people.
I have never listened to anything by Miss Eilish and doubt that I ever will.
I blame the media, as I really don’t think some of these celebrities want the attention anymore. You’re right; there are much better stories out there!
I tried to comment via my phone. I guess that didn't work. Bummer. So, an abridged version: This was hilarious. I'm sorry about your lame food truck experience. I don't get Billie Eilish either. The Snoop/Stewart thing is weird, for sure. I forget what else. But thank you for this entertaining post!
I'm with you on ALL of these!!! Although, I have to admit that trunk or treat was fun at the day care, especially when the little kids would parade in their costumes. But, yes, we totally went trick or treating after. LOL I'm literally laughing out loud about Snoop Dog. It's so awkward!
Yes! I do have a fear of food poisoning while in a food truck line. Mormons do the trunk or treats? It did seem to start with all sorts of churches here, but now community centers and the like have picked up on it. Fox News is just plain scary, but it’s nothing compared to Breitbart.
Yikes! I turned that Billie Awful-ish video off after 30 seconds. Sounds someone could use some Ex-Lax. Honestly, I didn't know zombies could sing. And she can't.
I have special hatred for rock videos, as the vast majority of them are just vapid and self-indulgent. And they can actually ruin a good song. I listen to music--I don't watch it.
Brilliant observation about the food trucks! I've gone to a few food truck events and they've all been overcrowded, overrated, and ridiculously overpriced. Hit the road, jack, and don't come back.
I haven't heard about Trunk or Treat, but my respect for your opinion combined with my instant dislike for that stupid name tells me they should follow the food trucks.
Snoop and Martha Stewart? Their supremely unwarranted 15 minutes are definitely up.
Take care!
(Sorry to be so late on this one. Not sure what happened!)
Hey Rob! Isn’t that video awful? I don’t get the appeal. It makes me depressed just watching it. And isn’t it surprising how popular food trucks have become? I get the convenience, but frankly, I’d rather just eat when I get home. Ha!
I'm pretty much with you on all this. I couldn't even finish that video - too creepy. I'd heard of her, but hadn't heard the "music." And I feel like Trunk or Treats are unnecessary - kids should walk door to door, in my crabby old person opinion. Funny that you mention the Cajun food truck - we got a single plate of crawdad étouffée and it was also $15! I've had some good food truck food for fairly reasonable prices, but that felt like a scam. We pretty much only order from food trucks if we are at a beer place that doesn't sell their own food.
I've heard of Billie Eilish but not her music, and after listening to only 50 seconds of the video I don't want to. I'm hating not being able to go to Australia for Christmas AGAIN.
I'm not a Billie Eilish fan either. I'm very disappointed that your food truck experiences haven't been great. I'm fascinated by them and think it would be awesome to have one. I've only ever been to two, though, near work. One was just kind of okay, but the other one was SO GOOD and actually very cheap for what you get. All of the Trunk or Treat stuff here is through churches. We don't go to church, so we've never handed out candy at them. I don't get the whole Martha Stewart/Snoop Dogg thing.
For what I've been hating on this year, obviously, there's all of the COVID stuff and all of the political stuff. But, I think everyone feels that way! For the stuff more specific to me:
The way almost all of the seasonal milkshakes, etc. have chocolate. I LOVE peppermint, but I hate chocolate, so that rules out a lot of the peppermint treats.
That everyone wants to weigh in on when everyone else can start listening to Christmas music? Love it and want to listen to it in October? Great! Only want to listen to it the week of Christmas? Great! Just don't whine about what other people are doing.
The car warranty calls. Always the car warranty calls!
Interesting that you love peppermint but hate chocolate. My son-in-law thinks mint chocolate is disgusting (we all love it). He thinks mint is only good for toothpaste! Those car warranty calls are the worst!
Covid and everything that goes with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWell, that is the obvious choice! Ha!
DeleteYou know, I have to be completely honest and say that I had no idea who Billie Eilish was/is?!? I have no words about this video, other than I TOTALLY agree with your sentiments. WTF does it even mean?!?! And this is TALENT? OMG...I couldn't even watch the complete video.

Oooops...I forgot to answer your question. I agree with Chatty Crone...Covid and everything that goes with it.

That’s too bad about the cupcake. How do you screw that up? I’ve just never liked Martha Stewart. She has an elitist attitude.
DeleteI'm with you on Billie Eilish. I watched a documentary on her (time I'll never get back) and I thought it was ironic that she spouts about being 'normal' and within 15 minutes she was dressed head to toe in Louis Vuitton. And her voice. Is she ok? Not sure.

ReplyDeleteI am totally with you on food trucks. It just feels like you are taking your chances with food poisoning.
Haha! You would have enjoyed my early blogging years. I’ve mellowed! But yes, food poisoning does cross my mind every darned time.

I don’t know if it’s whisper or just a bad voice! Politicians and lobbyists deserve their own space in hell.

ReplyDeleteThat is an understandable one!

ReplyDeleteThanks.
DeleteCovid and everything that goes with it
ReplyDeleteFor sure!
DeleteI’m aware of Billie Eilish. She sings [more or less], apparently?
ReplyDeleteI’m not a fan of food trucks. If the health department doesn’t regulate them, then who does?
Trunk or Treat is a Mormon thing around here. The rest of the kids go door to door.
Not a fan of Martha to begin with, so add in Snoop Dogg and I’m completely indifferent to them.
The only thing I actively hate on is Fox News. But that’s more of a decades old hate, not specific to this year.
Yes! I do have a fear of food poisoning while in a food truck line. Mormons do the trunk or treats? It did seem to start with all sorts of churches here, but now community centers and the like have picked up on it. Fox News is just plain scary, but it’s nothing compared to Breitbart.
