Time and again, I’ve had followers tell me that they either can’t comment on this blog (and others!), can’t subscribe to posts, or do not receive notification of new posts. I’ve generally believed this to be an issue between Blogspot blogs and Wordpress, but that’s not always the case.
If you would be so kind, in the comments below, could you answer the following questions:
1. How do you follow this blog? Is it different than how you follow blogs on other platforms?
2. Do you receive notifications of new posts the same day they are published?
3. Do you have trouble commenting and have you discovered any tricks?
My answers:
1. I follow all blogs through my Blogger Reader by manually entering the blog’s address with the Add button.
2. Certain blogs (mostly Wordpress, but not always) give me delayed notifications, sometimes by two weeks! Or it will bury a new post under a half dozen older posts from others.
3. There are a few Wordpress blogs that don’t allow me to comment if I’m the first one (a true head scratcher) or I will type out a comment and receive an error message when submitting. One trick I learned is that when my iPad does an update, it changes my cookie settings. To comment on most blogs without getting the Anonymous silhouette, you must accept all cookies in your device’s settings.
I hope these responses are helpful to others.
At least it's not just me then. Seriously, I used to get notifications when you posted. I don't know why that suddenly stopped happening. :/
ReplyDeleteLet’s hope there are some answers below!
Delete1) I follow your blog (and all blogs) through Feedly, by cutting and pasting the blog URL I wish to follow in my account, which automatically connects the feed of the blog. And I've done that since the day Google Reader retired years ago.
ReplyDelete2) And yes, I do receive notifications of a new post on the days you (or anyone) posts. And I've never had an issue with that.
3) Occasionally (but not on your blog) I will have trouble commenting on a Blogger blog. In fact, I can only think of one blogger recently who I had an issue with, but it seemed to resolve itself. Also, I recently had trouble leaving a comment on a Wordpress blog (my comment kept disappearing each time I clicked the publish button). But I have to say that up until that point, I've never had a issue commenting on Wordpress blogs. And it may be because I also have a blog on Wordpress and my login info is saved.
Hope that helps, my friend! Have a superb weekend! X
I’ve heard of Feedly, but don’t know much about it. I assume it’s similar to my Blogspot Reader. I’m sooo glad you don’t have issues with my blog! Thanks for participating in the Q&A.
Delete1. How do you follow this blog? Is it different than how you follow blogs on other platforms? I just follow you from my comments. If you leave a comment, then I do the same.
ReplyDelete2. Do you receive notifications of new posts the same day they are published? Nope
3. Do you have trouble commenting and have you discovered any tricks? It has improved recently so I haven't had any issues lately.
Follow by comments is a simple way to do it and I have occasionally done that until I’m certain I want to regularly follow someone. It also eliminates worrying about notifications, esp if you only read blogs once per week. Glad you don’t have issues commenting!
DeleteI haphazardly get blogspot notification. Some blogs regularly and others less so. I use blogger.
ReplyDeleteThank you for commenting!
DeleteI follow your blog trough my blogger reading list. It does not always show you new post though. Today this post came up, but I noticed the past two did not. I have to remember to venture over here to see if you have updated.
ReplyDeleteThat’s strange since we both use Blogger and have Blogspot blogs. Oddly enough, for a long while, it looked from my end like your blog was deleted. I honestly thought you left!
DeleteNope still here posting the tragedies I call life.
DeleteOnward and upward!
DeleteI follow blogs through my blogger reading list. I haven't had trouble posting or seeing your posts. I do have trouble with Wordpress though. Have a great Friday!!
ReplyDeleteI’m glad, Lori. Thanks for commenting.
DeleteI subscribe to you on Feedly, where I subscribe to everyone else. If I follow blogs by email, they usually end up in my spam folder, so I'd rather view them all in one place in a blog aggregator.
ReplyDeleteI don't get notified. See above. :)
Thankfully, I've never had any trouble leaving comments on your blog! ❤️
Thank you for your answers. It’s helpful to hear what others use.
DeleteI used to solely follow you via Email. (I'd get an emailed post the same day you post) But then I added you to my Feedly. Not sure why I waited....but I use Feedly for all of my blog reading. Seems to post as soon as a blog post is published.
ReplyDeleteI've not had any issues commenting on any blogs as long as I use my same laptop. If I read via my phone, my login credentials are not saved and causes issues.
Oh, and I'm on Wordpress. I've found it to be so much easier/better than when I had my blog on the Blogger format. There is a learning curve and it's not free, but there's less frustration writing my posts and adding photos/videos.
I know some people do the email subscriptions, but I’d hate for that to be cluttering my inbox. I prefer mine to be empty🤣. I understand about log in issues on various devices. I’ve found my desktop with windows to be easiest for publishing and commenting, but not practical when I want to relax in a Lazy Boy!
DeleteAnswers: 1) I follow this blog, all blogs, using Feedly. 2) I receive notice the same day as published, but I'm busy and don't always read/comment until later. 3) I have no trouble commenting but because this is Blogger I have to return later to read your replies. The system never lets me know about them.
ReplyDeleteFeedly seems to be the most popular reader. I do have to return to all blogs I follow to read replies, but I do enjoy catching up on other people’s comments anyway.
DeleteI follow your blog the same way as you follow others, only through the WP reader. Cut and paste the URL. Yes, I receive notifications the same day (though I don't always get around to reading right away). I will say, yours is the only Blogger blog I follow...pretty much everybody else is WP. There have been a few issues in the past, but nothing that I can really pinpoint with any consistency.
ReplyDeleteI didn’t know Wordpress had a reader. That’s surprising that I’m the only Blogger blog that you follow! Does that make me an old timer?
DeleteHow do I follow your blog? I just periodically click on your name in my blogroll to see if you've posted something new.
ReplyDeleteI don't bother with notifications as my email inbox would just get stuffed with them.
I only met with commenting problems recently after Blogger changed the commenting procedure, and discovered that I could only change the Anonymous default if I signed in to Blogger before visiting your blog.
Some people are commenting on my blog posts (I get notified of comments by email), but the comment doesn't appear on my post and I have to post the comment for them. I've no idea why this happens.
I haven’t noticed a change in Blogger commenting procedure. But yes, you’d need to be signed in to not be Anonymous on any blog. I have my profile saved for other commenting platforms, like Wordpress.
DeleteThe only time comments don’t post here is if they are flagged as spam. I’m easily able to approve it with a check mark and then it posts.
Yes, sometimes all you can do is try later. There are a couple blogs that I have to come back to if all else fails.
ReplyDeleteI have all my blogs I read saved in my Favorites on my computer home screen. I just click through one by one to read. I used to use Bloglovin' but it's been discontinued.
ReplyDeleteThat method sounds like it works for you. I do remember when Bloglovin was discontinued and a lot of bloggers were upset.
DeleteI rarely have trouble leaving comments. I don't pay attention to when a new post is written so will have to watch a few days and see if I get notified. I don't use a reader, I used my blog list. It's a widget you add to blogspot blogs with the name and url of a blog I've found interesting. When I write a new blog post, I visit everyone on my blog list, read their blog and comment. Sometimes they've not written a new blog since I was last there, and I leave a salutation on those saying something like waving hello as I make my blog rounds. That way they know I've visited them. Wordpress aren't as straight forward as blogger and frankly I get frustrated sometimes with wordpress blogs.
ReplyDeleteI always use a hyperlink on comments where name and url is not an option (like your blog). If I don't use a hyperlink and you click on my profile picture you go my profile page rather than my actual blog, which then requires you to select which blog and click again before you get to the blog itself.

It took me a while to understand your drive-by hellos! Lol! I agree that WordPress is not as straightforward. They have so many different commenting formats that I have lost track of my logins for different peoples blocks. then I’m in trouble when my information gets deleted because I do not ever know my password or log username. Too complicated!
DeleteThe blogs I follow I do so on blogger, but I have been mostly posting in Wordpress for the past several years. I had a tech guy who worked for me who talked me into it and sometimes I regret it! I still keep my old blogger (Sagecoveredhills) blog, but mainly to check once a week or so and to see who's posted recently.
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting Jeff. It does seem as though WordPress is the favored blogging format. Unfortunately, your blog is one of the ones I have the most trouble commenting on. It never saves my login information even though I always check the box. and I rarely get notifications when you post, so I just check when you comment here.
DeleteI don't have a reading list that I subscribe to that I check in like a feed, but I do have blogs bookmarked to read when I can. I have never had trouble commenting on blogs from my laptop computer, other than the occasional comment that disappears when I am halfway through typing. I do have issues commenting with my ipad on some blogs though.
ReplyDeleteJust like you, I rarely have issue on my desktop, but the iPad is another story.
DeleteThanks for clearing that up, Bijoux. I just type in the name of the blogs I like and my computer does the rest. Bit of a noob with technology, I'm sorry to say...
ReplyDeleteWhatever works, Rob!
DeleteActually i don't see a way to follow your blog and want to follow your blog. And our daily life is very bussy for us, hence when our new post ready and uploaded, i check out the blogs i like and write comments.
ReplyDeleteThe easiest way is to just follow me in your Blogger Reader, which is what I do for all blogs.
DeleteOK so, I have used all of the methods -- subscribing in a reader, subscribing to be alerted when there is a new post, websites that list an aggregate of blogs so you can check the ones you follow and see new posts at a glance -- after a while, none of them work for me. Wordpress is notoriously difficult (for me) to comment on, so honestly I tend to avoid blogs on that platform. What I do is, all of the blogs I follow have a symbol in my bookmarks bar at the top of my screen. I just click and I'm in. Normally I have no problem commenting. Hope this helps! xoxo
ReplyDeleteHow strange that all those methods stopped working. It can really be frustrating sometimes. I’m glad you found away that works.
DeleteHello Bijoux, I'm sorry for the delay. I can't remember if I recieve notifications or rely on memory! But after reading some comments above I have now put your URL into my blogger reader list. I've never had any problems commenting.
