I’m back! Here are some pictures from our recent trip to Florida. We had gorgeous weather everyday of 80 degrees and lots of good seafood and champagne.

| We stayed at The Boca Raton, a beautiful historic hotel built by city planner Addison Mizner in the 1920's. It is known for its distinctive Spanish architecture. |
![]() |
| Currently, the resort consists of five separate hotels. We stayed in the Tower suites, pictured here. |
![]() |
| One of the many stunning courtyards at dusk. |
![]() |
| A trip highlight was the day spent in Delray Beach. We went on a craft food tour, after loving the ones we've done in Miami and Louisville. This one did not disappoint! |
![]() |
| Our first stop was El Camino. Very cool vibes! |
![]() |
| We had chips, salsa, and a small brisket quesadilla. AND the best margarita of my life! Everything was super fresh. |
![]() |
| The next location was a little hole-in-the-wall called Delray Goodies, featuring Asian street food. We watched as this fellow made us JianBings. |
![]() |
| Another evening found us back in Delray Beach for seafood at Lionfish. |
![]() |
| One morning, we did a coastal bike ride to Gumbo Limbo Nature Center, a sea turtle rescue facility. We watched the turtle on the black mat defending his territory. |
![]() |
| Sea turtles in baskets. Apparently, sea turtles are solitary creatures and like to be alone. |
![]() |
| Lots of time spent in the resort's pool area. |
![]() |
| And time spent walking around the property . . . |
![]() |
| viewing the art . . . |
![]() |
| and checking out the massive banyan trees . . . |
![]() |
| and this kapok tree's amazing root system. |
![]() |
| Beautiful arched terrace on our way to breakfast each morning. |
![]() |
| Walking by the yachts docked at the resort. Some of you know I'm a Below Deck yachtie fan. |

I do not kid about my champagne!I'll be around to visit everyone over the next week. Cheers! |

Oh, now I'm having a moment. Looking at all of your photos makes me miss living in Florida. It is such a beautiful state. I've been to Boca Raton and Delray beach many, many times. All of your meals look so fresh and delicious. Banyan trees still remain my favorite kind of tree. They are just so gorgeous. I'm glad you had a wonderful time.
ReplyDeleteFlorida is such a great place to visit in the Spring. I’ve gone four times now in the past 14 years in March. Have always had perfect weather and it’s usually a great escape for us from the cold here (though this year, it was in the 60’s here). We had lots of great food and it was nice to not have to cook.
DeleteOMG, you were in my hometown in Florida....BOCA RATON!!!! I'm looking at your beautiful photographs, nodding my head and saying, "Yes...I've been there!!!!" My family's home was not far from the Boca Raton Tower. In fact, that's where I had my Senior Prom! And one time my parents had a room there for some event, and I got see inside one of the rooms. Oh, how cool that YOU stay there! LOVE the view from your room! And those photos of the pool area brought back memories because I remember hanging out at the pool.
ReplyDelete"A trip highlight was the day spent in Delray Beach."
And speaking of Delray Beach, that's where my brother lives, not far off Atlantic Blvd, which is where (I think) you were at all those restaurants. Your food looked delicious!
Thanks so much for sharing your trip, my friend! Brought back so many wonderful memories of my life there! And welcome back. You've been missed!
X
I remember you saying you had your prom at The Boca Raton! Isn’t that crazy? They’ve been through a major remodel over the past few years and our suite was gorgeous. We were very impressed upon arrival. All the lights operated on two panels and there was an electronic panel by the door that had lights for maid service or privacy, which was very convenient and modern.
DeleteYes, the restaurants were either on Atlantic Avenue or nearby. Delay Beach was a really cool and walkable town. We had so much fun that day.
Did you think Boca seemed really built up when you last lived in Florida? There were a lot of strip malls all over the place. We only explored near the hotel and on the bike tour to Gumbo Limbo and Spanish River Park, but a lot of homes/condos looked abandoned and there was SO much construction. The zoning laws seemed nonexistent!!! Just wondering what you thought?
I lived in Boca during the late 70s through part of the 80s, so it was just getting started. In fact, back then, no one had even heard of Boca Raton. My father was a builder and built two different condominium complexes in Delray Beach. My brother, Tom, lives in one of them. The last time I was there, I was shocked my how gorgeous and well-kept they were. They looked almost new!
Delete"Spanish River Park" - that used to me my hangout with friends. I love the beach there!
I never knew your father was a builder! That’s great that the condos your dad built are being kept up so nicely. I bet he’d be so proud. We went to Spanish River Park twice. Once for a picnic lunch on the bike ride and once because that’s where the kayak trip started and ended. Isn’t it so neat that you and I were both there???
DeleteP.S. "We had a key lime dessert almost every night of the trip. SO GOOD!" - Florida has the BEST key lime!
ReplyDeleteThe flavor was unbelievable!! So YUM!
DeleteI'm glad you had a great vacation. Those views are incredible! And the Asian street food looks so good.
ReplyDeleteIt was the first time I’ve flown since March 2020 when we returned from Key Biscayne and almost immediately went into lockdown. It was so nice to go to Florida again.
DeleteSounds like a wonderful trip. Great hotels, great food, great scenery. I've never been kayaking and I must say I don't fancy it. And you didn't even see many sea creatures! Good to know of the sea turtle rescue place. I've never seen any sea turtles in Northern Ireland but being solitary maybe they hide away from humans.
ReplyDeleteI’m truly not much of a water person. I want to be, but I was just never a good swimmer, so most water activities make me uneasy. I’m fine in a boat, but my husband gets really seasick, so we can’t do that anymore either. I wish we’d seen some manatees, but it was not to be.
DeleteYour vacation looks like fun. I've been to Boca but not Delray Beach. The champagne signs are delightful. Inspiring, even.
ReplyDeleteI’m a bit obsessed with good champagne or sparkling wine. One of the highlights of my entire life was drinking outdoors at Domaine Chandon in Napa. The place is gorgeous, as is Domaine Carneros.
DeleteOh wow! Beautiful place and a great trip! That view from your room looks stunning! I could look at that view every day! I've been kayaking a few times and I do enjoy it but only in very calm waters!
ReplyDeleteMy first kayaking experience was on the Pacific Ocean in 2016. Big mistake! This was fairly calm, except for when big yachts were going by.
DeleteI love all of this. I've never been to this part of Florida, but now I want to visit! I love how many interesting things you did during your vacation! I want you to plan my next trip. I'm so glad you had a good time. 😘❤️
ReplyDeleteI highly recommend Miami! There’s nothing I love better than exploring new destinations.
DeleteWelcome back, Bijoux. Looks like a wonderful trip and thanks for sharing with us. I am with you on kayaking. It is a lot of effort and not worth it. My body doesn't enjoy the experience at all. And I think I just found my new spirit animal, the sea turtle.
ReplyDeleteYes! Kayaking is a LOT of effort for not much return. I find it stressful. Sea turtles are delightful, especially the big Honu. Very chill.
DeleteAh, yes, the Mouth of the Rat. . . I used to have family in Ft Pierce and Port St Lucie, just a bit up the coast from there. The couple times we went to visit (always in March), it felt like we were getting away with something - 80+ temps, but the sun still went down at 6. . .
ReplyDeleteApparently the origin of the name is debatable? Florida is best visited in March-May, in my opinion. It was fun to go again.
DeleteI loved the pictures. The food looks great to me.
ReplyDeleteWe really enjoyed the food!
DeleteI don't know which I'm most jealous over: your amazing room, the kayaking (sorry; I'm Team Hubby on this one!), the best margarita of your life, or the jian bing. It all looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteIt really was a lot of good stuff! I’m skipping the gratitude post this month because I would only be repeating this post.
DeleteHow fun for you guys! It's so funny, I was looking up local places to have a few days with a girlfriend and The Boca Raton showed up on my search and I'm all: Hey, I've been there before! It used to be simply called Boca Beach Club, before Michael Dell bought it. ("Dude, I'm getting a Dell") He has recently purchased a lot of property (hotels) in our area too.
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely area to visit, (a tad uppity, I'm sure you noticed) but I love that you went to Delray too. That is such a sweet little area; one of my favorites, although I've not been there in about 10 years.
YOU ARE A CHAMPS girl! I love that. I don't drink it, but I understand those who love it, JUST LOVE IT.
I can't believe you didn't see more wildlife on your kayak tour; that is a bummer! All your meals look great and Key Lime Pie is a must while visiting the south.
I wonder how many times The Boca has changed names since it was built in the 1920's? Delray was a really fun town! We didn't enjoy Boca as much. Too much construction and strip malls. We stayed at the Breakers in Palm Beach in 2015 and thought that area was nicer.
DeleteI'm a total CHAMPS girl! It's basically the only drink I order when I go out now. Life is too short! We were not shocked to not see wildlife. We did a 'dolphin safari' in Dana Point, CA in 2018 and didn't see a single dolphin, but my husband got massively seasick. And we saw ONE turtle in Turtle Town when we kayaked in Maui. ONE.
What a fabulous trip! Sunshine, seafood and champagne--what else do you need?
ReplyDeleteI just finished dinner a little while ago, but after reading your post I'm hungry all over again.
And I totally understand your lack of enthusiasm for kayaking. I took a kayak trip in the San Juan Islands years ago and, while I had a great time, I'm so done with kayaks.
So happy that you had such a great time!
And the best thing is that we didn’t get Covid! I was concerned about flying, just for that reason. It was a great week, but now I’m back to reality, which includes snow 😡
DeleteHope sunshine is on the agenda for us both!
Add my Welcome Home, Bijoux, to those previous ones. I was wondering if you were off on a trip or taking a blog break and it seems you were doing both! The photos show you had a great time and looks like good weather as well, plus lots of delicious eats. I agree that it is such fun to try new things when traveling and no cooking is even better! I believe that the Boca Raton has been featured in a few films, but can't recall the name of any now. It looks like a beautiful place! We kayaked for a few years when we lived in VA, and the kayaks were sold when we decided to move. While, there is kayaking on the Nashua River here, like yourself, I am OK with not doing it again.
ReplyDeleteThe majority of commenters seem to agree that kayaking is not worth the effort. Thanks for your well wishes. I always do a few weeks social media break after a trip. It forces me to get things done! I'll stop over at your blog now!
DeleteI'm so late to hop over here - sorry. I've had lots going on. We are packing for Florida - leaving tomorrow, but not this kind of Florida. Looks like you did it right. So amazing. Love the pictures. The meals look out of this world. I do not do sushi. The dessert plate - Yum! The entire place looks like a great place to vacation. Welcomes back. (your kayak experience cracked me up. I've only ever done tiny little spurts in a very tame lake, not far from shore, but I can only imagine that it could get ugly).
ReplyDeletePlease don't apologize! I was on a social media break for 3 weeks. I don't do sushi either, but I made this one exception as I knew it was super fresh. I hope you have a nice time away. At least you'll have good weather and no forecast of snow.
DeleteFlorida this time of the year is so ideal. The weather is absolutely gorgeous. We've not visited many stops on the Atlantic, though we did hit up St. Augustine, Miami Beach, and the Keys last January. We usually work the trade shows in Clearwater and Daytona Beach Area, but next year we may try a few new areas.
ReplyDeleteThe food you had on your trip all looks so scrumptious! I'm pretty sure I was a turtle in my last life because I too like to be left alone LOL. I'm not much of a kayak lover, but Jason would go every day if he could. I'll accompany him a few times a year. I know you are nixing future kayak rides, but you must do the plankton kayaking at night in Florida if you're ever there during their peak. My best friend did it and said it was so cool. They rode in clear kayaks at night and drifted though the bioluminescence for an hour or so and can't wait to do it again some day.
Yes, we’ve always had great weather in Florida in early March. Did you see any weirdos in Clearwater? I always think of Leah Remini and her crusade against Scientology in Clearwater!
DeleteWhile the bioluminescence sounds cool, I don’t go in water at night. That would freak me out!
It's Florida. There are weirdos everywhere LMAO!
DeleteIt does have that reputation!
DeleteWhat a great trip! Beautiful pics. Hooray for trying new foods! ~Betsy
ReplyDeleteAren’t you proud of me? 🤓
DeleteSo very very proud! I would've been right there with you! And props to your husband too for grabbing an assortment of desserts. YES! :P
DeleteI cracked up at his plate, but we never have desserts, so he figured he deserved it!
DeleteImpressed you never have desserts. I guess we rarely do too, come to think of it. But, hey, when on vacation! Happy for him. :) And you!
DeleteHolidays and vacations are dessert times in my book!
DeleteYes!
