Goodbye, June. You always treat me so well:

| On my walks around town, I came across this house where they have no grass, just flowers, bushes, and ground cover. I love it! |
![]() |
| We have been doing a lot of patio dining, but decided to check out this Tiki bar with friends. It did not disappoint. Super fun vibe and amazing tropical drinks. |
![]() |
| We also went with friends to this speakeasy, my first one ever. I never in a million years would have guessed that this was a door. |

| Truth! |

| Totally me! |

To show that we might have a future, here are two of my granddaughters picking cherries. I love to see my grandkids enjoying summer. Summer gives me life!!!Tell me something good about your Summer! |

Okay, that fountain you made is BEYOND fabulous! I am soooooooooo impressed! And I love the colorful flowers you planted around it. WELL done, my friend! *applause*
ReplyDeleteThat garden you discovered on your walk is so adorable! I love the rocks along the edge.
When my family first moved to South Florida, I was obsessed with all things tropical. I begged my mother if she would buy tiki torches that we could place around the pool area to make it feel more tropical. God love my mother, she DID!
"I never in a million years would have guessed that this was a door."
Me neither! That's AMAZINGLY creative!
Thanks for sharing about MTV because I had no idea! The first video I ever saw on MTV was A-ha Take On Me. I still love that video!
Fun, fun post, my friend! I know how much you love summer, so I celebrate for you! The one thing I do enjoy about summertime are the delicious salads I've been making. I love the produce this time of year!
Have a great week, and Happy Pre-4th!

"All of us after that debate . . . and I don't talk politics here."
THANK YOU! And you're right, that cartoon is hilarious!
Thank you for being proud of my homemade fountain! I used Spanish moss and fake flowers from the Dollar Tree around it!!! I wanted to be able to bring it inside when not using it.
DeleteLOL at your tiki torches! I love those! We have some that can be bolted onto our deck railing, but we don’t often have people over at night, so they don’t get much use. But they are fun. My son worked at a tiki bar for a year when he was in between jobs before Covid. He really liked it.
Ok Ron, the MTV thing is making fun of the fact that they only played videos for 14 years🤣🤣🤣 I’m still mad that videos are gone! I can’t remember the first one I saw. We didn’t have cable, so I had to resort to Friday Nite Videos, or whatever that show was called. I was obsessed with Duran Duran during that time and always hoped one of their videos would be shown!
I wish I could have played the music that went with the debate cartoon. I think it was the theme to The Young and Restless! 🤣
Happy 4th to YOU!
DUH! Thanks for clarifying that for me. I totally didn't read the bottom half of the MTV thing! And those fake flowers look REAL!
DeleteI realized you must not have read it right! Aren’t those flowers surprisingly realistic?
DeleteYou did a great job with the fountain and should be proud of your craftiness!
ReplyDeleteTara's motto is the less grass, the better. I simply tap her on the shoulder, point to my beloved John Deere, and shake my head. It's a battle of wills, but I think we can find a good compromise.
I love a good tiki bar! Probably my favorite summer activity if I'm being honest, ha.
Thank you, Mark. I'm okay with grass. What I get tired of is picking up sticks from our neighbor's humongous Sycamore tree. Total PITA! Would you believe that was my first tiki bar experience?
DeleteFabulous photos, Bijoux! I love that speakeasy--it's so funky with that crazy door. There used to be a restaurant in Manhattan called Chumley's that was a former speakeasy.
ReplyDeleteThe owners never did put up a sign so you really had to know your way around to find the place. Alas, it closed for good in 2020.
I'm very impressed with the fountain! Great job!
And the museum wedding looks quite an affair! So glad you get down and get funky (forgive the old slang terms--I'm from the 1900s!)
Thanks, Rob. That speakeasy (called Watson's) was very small. I think they only take 25 people at a time. All of the speakeasys around here are 'fake.' That would be cool to go to a real one, like the one you mentioned in Manhattan. I'm proud to be from the 1900's!!!!
DeleteThe fountain is awesome!! You should be proud of yourself, you did a great job. I love it. That speakeasy door is very cool and the tiki place looks like it would be fun. I miss the tiki bars in Florida. We had a favorite that was right on the Caloosahatchee River that we would go to. The wedding venue is gorgeous and what a Great photo of your two Granddaughters. For me, I love the fresh herbs, veggies and fruits that summer brings. Along with sitting outside reading and of course grilling every chance I can get. Happy 4th!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lori. It takes me forever to find the 'just right' materials to make anything when I'm attempting projects, but I'm always very pleased with the final results. That was my first speakeasy and tiki bar. We will be on the hunt for more. Fresh produce is a wonderful part of summer. I hope you have a great long weekend.
DeleteBijoux - I love summer too!! It's the best. My fav part of summer, besides not working, is having all the kids home. Hanging with my college kids is so fun. We joined a new pool this year, which is an upgrade for us, but not many people from our town use that pool so going with the girls and having no friends to hang out with puts a damper on it. I am also working really hard to carve out time to write and it is happening. (it helps that i worked really hard to organize the house for the grad party so I don't feel like the house is begging for attention - other than the day-to-day stuff). Love that pic of the grand girls. So sweet.
ReplyDeleteAwww, I remember loving summer because my kids were home from school. Those are precious times. We are taking our first family vacation this year that includes all our kids since 2011. There are now six extra people , with the spouses and grands. Everyone is super excited! Good luck with the writing!
DeleteI NEED A FOUNTAIN!!! Show me your ways!!
ReplyDeleteI am all for less grass and more flowers. I'd have an entire yard full of flowers if I could pursuade my husband. (I'm getting close)
That tiki bar is so cool!! In the summer, I eat exclusively on restaurant patios. No matter the weather. I feel like most Midwesterners are like this.
I love that speakeasy! What fun!
I can relate to every single one of those memes. 🤣
I just heard that Paramount recently deleted the entire MTV News catalog. I wanted to cry.
Well, that tiki bar and speakeasy are both on Front St in Cuyahoga Falls! Can you believe that? NE Ohio has really upped its game in the 21st century. Yes, pretty much everyone I know is obsessed with patio dining. We have to enjoy it while we can. And how rude was it with Paramount?? Like, WHY?
DeleteIf you search for solar fountain on TikTok, you should find a bunch of how to’s. The trick is finding two pots that go together and are the right size. Also, don’t get a small pot with a drainage hole like I did! 😵💫😵💫😵💫 fortunately, I had a white plastic bowl that fit inside.
I am so envious! Tiki bar! Speakeasy! Dancing hip hop at a wedding! These are all things I want to do right this very second. I looooove summer too! That fountain looks fabulous!
ReplyDeleteSummer lovers unite! We had so much fun at that wedding. Omg, when I heard Ginuwine’s Pony come on, I was dying! They played so much great dance music! We were laughing that we were the oldest and whitest people on the dance floor, but we’d never see those people again (except the parents of the bride, which is why we were invited)! 🤣
DeleteSUPER impressed with your homemade fountain. I suppose *in theory* I could pull something like that off, but it looks like so much work! :P I didn't realize speakeasies were a national thing. I've heard they exist out here, but I don't have the ins on where and how. :/ So fun for you! The tiki bar also. You get around, girl! Love all the flowers, plants, etc. Grandies--super cute. :) <3 ~Betsy
ReplyDeleteThanks, Betsy! The hardest part of the fountain was finding two pots that were the right size and looked good together. I wasn’t about to spend hundreds of dollars on some of those Amazon pots. Rip off! I got the big one at Lowe’s and the small one at Meijers. Yeah, we do get around in the summer. We take advantage of every Friday and Saturday night of warm weather. Something you don’t worry about, I suppose!
DeleteOur heat wave is coming. 89 this Saturday. What the what?! We pay good money for our weather. I want a refund! ;)
DeleteYeah, we’ve already had a 90 degree week in June. Too early! You DO pay good money for that weather 🤣🤣🤣
DeleteBijoux, we have a speakeasy bar here in Nashua, NH, too. It's called Codex (not sure why) but to enter, you go into a doorway and then to a bookshelf and pull out one of the fake books for entry. We've been there a couple of times and it's just OK as fr as food but the inside is great with lots of old books and a player piano. Silent films used to be shown one night a week, but not sure if that's still done. There was no dancing. Your homemade solar fountain turned out great, kudos to you! The wedding venue looked really fabulous. Cute pic of your granddaughters and we have been enjoying cherries as an evening treat the past few weeks.
ReplyDeleteThis speakeasy is called Watson’s. Their fire code limit is 25 patrons, so it’s hard to get in. Very small. No food or dancing, just drinks. I’ve been eating cherries every night, too! So good! This was the first year that the farm my grands went to had pick your own cherries. I’ve never done that before, but my daughter said it was easy and quick work.
DeleteOh God, fountain works, patio dining, and the MTV meme- great laughs and relief after a fucked up stressful day. Especially the MTV thing... Enjoy your Fourth holiday, Bijoux.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much and I’m glad you enjoyed the memes, too!
Deleteno grass, just flowers, bushes, and ground cover. I love it! Good for the eco too.
ReplyDeleteI’m all about the low maintenance.
DeleteHard to find something good about the summer. The weather has been dreadful but the garden is thriving with all the bushes and plants growing like crazy. As you know, we visited Brighton earlier in the summer and had a great time exploring and enjoying some of the Brighton Festival events.
ReplyDeleteWe had one really hot week, but I don’t complain. Better than a blizzard! A summer trip is one of the highlights, for sure.
DeleteIf you're anything like me, Shorty's quads were sore on Monday for all that gettin' low!
ReplyDeleteWe have a speakeasy in town, I've not been but have heard they have secret doors and in this one, you have to bring your Time Card, to check in for work. My good friend is a Dishwasher and is working her way up. LOL!
The fountain is gorgeous, as are your flowers. I know you will enjoy them! For us, summer is pretty brutal; not gonna lie.
The MTV meme and the Season Finale of These United States are both prophetic. 🫣
Grandkids being kids, enjoying the simple pleasures is the best thing ever.
My legs are the strongest thing on my body! I’m so confused on the time card thing. Like, what??? Can I print one off my computer? 🤣
DeleteYeah, I can see where your summer is brutal. Come on up here, where one day it’s 54 and the next, it’s 94! I love seeing the grands enjoy the sprinkler for hours.
Your grandkids are cute.
ReplyDeleteI love the flowers.
Thanks, Mary. I hope you have a drama-free 4th of July!
DeleteYour backyard is lovely and the daisies are the best. The speakeasy eatery looks so fun would love to go there. And nothing says summer more then cherry picking. Thanks for sharing. : )
ReplyDeleteAllie of
www.allienyc.com
Thanks, Allie!
DeleteYour fountain looks great! Will you do a post about how you made it?
ReplyDeleteThe speakeasy sounds fun. I've never been to one.
I think the groundhogs are my favorite thing so far this summer. I just love watching them eat and play.
The shopping for the right size pots is the only hard part of the fountain. I filled the bottom of the big one with recycled plastic bottles and balanced the small pot on top of a flat plastic container. Then I added Spanish moss and fake flowers. The solar fountain was from Amazon.
DeleteYou’ve had quite a groundhog show!
Very cool fountain. I wish TikTok called to me more loudly, so many good ideas there. I haven't been to the Cleveland Art Museum in years and you remind me I need to get back to visiting museums. Cute grandkids!
ReplyDeleteThe Cleveland Museum of Art is one of the best in the world! We need to get back to Cincy to see some of its highlights. Lots of wonderful sightseeing in our state.
DeleteI thought I commented on this. Forgive me. I've been having some sleep issues and trying to find just what exactly works is a pain. - Anyway. You are the queen of visiting the coolest places! We had a speak easy open la couple of years ago, Gatsby 1920. I haven't been to it but it gets great reviews and they're always booked. - I, like everyone here, love your fountain! That is so cool. I thought the flowers were real too. - Now... For the most adorable part of your post. Your granddaughters!! I LOVE their hair!! I've always wanted red hair but my skin tone is too dark. - Loved this post.
ReplyDeleteBoth of my daughters are redheads and I’m a brunette and my husband was a blond. But he has one sister with red hair (though a completely different shade) and I had two great aunts with red hair, so I guess it’s in the genes. And now my oldest daughter has two redheads. They get the curls from my son-in-law!
DeleteOh. I totally forgot to ask you. Did you know that some of the lawn at Buckingham Palace is chamomile grass? Before my sister died we were going to put some in her yard but she never made it back up the mountain. Still, cool grass.
ReplyDeleteNo, I’ve never heard that. How cool, though I hate the tea🤣
DeleteDang Tik Tok sucks you in. I watched some stupid Somali Pirate videos for like an hour last month and was like where did my hour go? That fountain though is incredible! Those are the kind of helpful videos that I live for. But I guess I'll be prepared if I ever get boat jacked by a Somali pirate now LOL
ReplyDeleteI have never been to a speakeasy but it sounds so fun! Definitely on my bucket list of things to do.
Those memes are great. I've been cackling over that 1900's one for the last month. My daughter is into buying disposable cameras and records and cassette tapes. She's fascinated with rotary phones. Everything we're happy to have moved away from and this new generation is embracing it. So weird. I never had an itch to buy an 8 track, but whatever keeps them busy, I guess.
Omg, I never understood addiction till TikTok and I have my husband to blame! He kept showing me those teacher videos at Xmas of the sad student art that was like the SNL skit (I don’t know name of song). Do you know what I’m talking about? Hilarious! I’ve never seen the pirate stuff😳
DeleteThe 1900’s one is soooo funny! I didn’t even know they still sold disposable cameras! I thought they took awful pictures. And cassettes always caused issues. But my son loves his vinyl and absconded with a lot of our albums. You’re right, it keeps them busy 🤣
Now I'm going to have to go look up that sad student art and get sucked in again. Thanks a lot! LOLOL. My husband was obsessed with that mime from Sea World and spent days watching those videos.
DeleteOff to search Sea World mime…………🤣🤣🤣
