Photo Friday: Wildlife in Action, Past-Tense Bijoux, and Lots of Bacon

Just some random fun for you:

My sister-in-law's husband has a habit of leaving weird things at people's houses when he visits. We've found things like a Hindu Vishnu candle behind the toaster and a cement Big Foot statue in our landscaping. This year after the Cousin Party, I found these Bacon Bandages above our kitchen desk. He always denies knowing anything about it . . .

We have had so much fox activity caught on camera lately. This guy was creeping on us through the patio door at 7 a.m.

Here's one in broad daylight. We know there are at least two that we've seen at the same time. Usually, we have about one sighting every other year, so this has been unusual.

After Thanksgiving, I always throw our pumpkins and gourds out back for the deer. Here is a mother and youngster sharing one. Now stay away from my hydrangea bushes!

I know it's not nice to comment on people's appearance, but I saw this on Instagram and the first comment was, "What the Herman Munster am I looking at?" I died.

I will poke fun at my own appearance here. In October, it's a tradition for my friends and I to attend First Pour at Great Lakes Brewing. It's the day in October where they tap their Christmas Ale. When we were inside the gift shop, I spied my doppelganger. If you enlarge the picture above my head, the girl in the green pajamas on the floor looks exactly like my 16 year old self. It was a little bit creepy, right down to the early 80's glasses that I had.

This photo is for you, Ron!!! My long-time Blogger mate has written a few posts on his extreme hatred of everything Hello Kitty. I'm ashamed to tell him that I bought this ensemble for my granddaughter for Christmas. Blame it on the TJMaxx, Ron!

This photo is for Suz and Nicole. I was not able to upload the video from TikTok, but the voiceover said, "Explain to me what you mean by marriage is hard" and zoomed in on that towel. Oh, how I laughed. I showed it to both my husband and son-in-law and neither seemed to get it. Or maybe they were just pretending . . .

Have you ever seen a fox in the wild? Or your doppelganger? Strong opinions on cartoon characters or towel placement? Please tell me you know who Herman Munster is.

Happy Weekend! Stay Warm!!

  1. Yes to a fox sighting, Bijoux, just a few weeks ago we spotted a rather scrawny looking fox in a residential neighborhood in Nashua, NH. Yet, I have never seen one in the nearby wooded park. As to a doppelganger, years ago the NJ governor was Christine Whitman and at times I was mistaken for her, all in my younger days 😀 Your granddaughter wears the Hello Kitty outfit well and my favorites are Charlie Brown or The Grinch and my husband has holiday t-shirts with both characters. I do not wear any clothing with cartoon or celebs, not my thing. Years ago, we would buy shirts or sweatshirts from places visited and my husband still does on occasion. Of course, I know who Herman M is and Fred Gwyyne played the character so well.

    1. How interesting that you were mistaken for a ‘famous person’ at times! One of my friends is often mistaken for a local weather forecaster. Charlie Brown will always be my favorite as well. This is Bijoux, I’m having trouble with my account again.

  2. Your sister-in-law's husband sounds like a HOOT! And why have I never heard of or seen Bacon Bandages?!?

And I love that you have foxes around because I think their little faces are so CUTE! I wish I'd see a fox (or a deer) where I live. Oh wait, that's right, I live in a city. LOL!

You're right, he does look like Herman Munster. And the young lady standing next to him looks like Morticia Addams!!!!

That pic of you is AWESOME! I like your fluffy jacket!

And I just about died laughing when I saw the pic of your granddaughter wearing (Goodbye Hello Kitty) because I immediately knew you were going to mention something!!! You have no idea how many times I see Hello Kitty stuff (like in TJMaxx) and think of you!!! Your granddaughter looks adorable!

As you know from my avatar, my very favorite cartoon character is George Jetson because I love the Jetsons!

FUN, FUN, post, my friend! Have a fantabulous weekend! X

    1. My SIL’s husband is an interesting character. He has had a couple of supernatural experiences that he doesn’t talk about, but it’s one of the reasons I believe in ghosts. Aren’t foxes so cute? But I am worried for the bunny that lives under our deck 😱

Thanks, Ron! I got my fluffy jacket at TJMaxx, of course! I knew you’d get a kick out of the Hello Kitty outfit. It’s still everywhere! Have a great weekend! XO

  3. Lol I almost screamed at that photo! Ahhhhhh! What even! MONSTERS!!!! Monsters among us!
You found your doppelganger! That's wild. I like to think my doppelganger is that little girl in Charlie Brown Christmas who's in the dance scene with the brown hair. It feels like me as a child. 80s glasses were something. I had pinkish clear frames and then I had Sally Jesse Raphael styled ones. I was so vain so I didn't wear them often, instead I did the stylish thing of walking around squinting because I couldn't see a thing. Getting contacts at 15 was life changing.
I love Hello Kitty! I approve of that outfit. It's fabulous!

    1. That photo killed me, too! These kids thinking they’re edgy 🤣🤣🤣 Aww, I love everything Peanuts related. There was something online a few years ago where you could turn your photo into a Peanuts character. It was amazing! I hated wearing my glasses by high school and ditched them during school hours. I have no idea how I got by, not being able to see the chalkboard. I finally got contacts my senior year, after harassing my parents.

  4. This was a fun post. We see a lot of creatures around our house but not a fox yet. As for deer, our back yard is fenced in and they've never bothered anything in the front, until this year. They have eaten almost my entire huge holly bush and they left a huge pile of deer poo right in front of it on our drive way. From the pictures I've seen of you in your teens that really DOES look like you. Your granddaughter is so cute. I like Hello Kitty for girls her age but Hello Kitty everything can be over whelming. As for husbands, I totally get this picture and after all these years married I still don't understand some of the things my husband does. Hope you're staying warm!!

    1. I never saw a fox until we moved to the Cleveland area. It's strange, but maybe because there are so many metroparks and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Deer are not 'supposed' to eat holly, but they ate the holly bush we had at our last house. That pile is their calling card! LOL! The towel thing blows my mind. It's not just aesthetics; how will the towel dry like that?

  5. I know who Herman Munster is. lol
That is so funny that he leaves funny things after a visit. I loe that idea.

  6. OMG, I love your sister-in-law's husband's shenanigans! That is EXACTLY something I would do. In fact, the next time I visit someone, it's on. With all the vintage stores we hit, I can easily find some bizarre items to leave behind!

Yes, I have seen foxes in the wild. One used to hang out in my Rapid City neighborhood, and my dad saw one right down the road here once. I have seen their dens and heard their bloodcurdling screams in the woods behind our house but have yet to actually spot one yet.

That towel is a fire hazard and of course I know who Herman Munster is.

    1. He’s sort of anti-social, so it’s strange to us that he loves pranks. I don’t understand why it’s funny to him if he doesn’t get to see our reaction? Isn’t that fox so cute? They are fun to watch, but they move very quickly. Thank you, we think our grands are the cutest (like every grandparent does 🤣)

  8. I reserve my day off on Fridays for writing my chapters, so I'm always late to these Friday posts. but I wondered the same thing, Is this the Adams family? Eek. The girl on Growing Pains (Sevier, Cindy maybe? name escapes me - oh wait, Tracey Gold!!!) when she had big glasses, that was me when I was a senior in high school/freshman year of college. My contact lens failed me and I had to wear my glasses to parties for a few weeks in college and EVERYWHERE I went someone told me I looked like Tracy Gold or whatever her name was. I've seen a fox running around near our house in the late morning. Broad daylight. Coyotes sometimes too. Don't get me started on our racoon thing. Long story. Your grandchild is so cute, it's hard to notice what she's wearing. I babysit for a kid who almost only wears spiderman gear.

    1. I absolutely remember Tracy Gold. That’s actually pretty neat that people thought you looked alike. She was a cute girl and still looked good when they did a reunion. We seem to see coyotes more in the spring and fall and fox in the winter. Maybe it’s a territory thing. My grandson doesn’t really like superheroes. He’s more into dinosaurs.

  9. I've no idea what Hello Kitty is, but it looks like your granddaughter is enjoying her outfit. It would be fun to have foxes round our way but the best we can manage is a few squirrels. I also don't get the towel on the cooker - is it just not where you would expect it? I did have a doppelganger once when I was much younger, but none since then. It was an uncanny resemblance.

    1. Hello Kitty is a popular character that originated in Japan. It’s been around for decades and is found on just about anything girl-related - clothing, jewelry, school supplies, etc. I’m laughing about the towel. Why would anyone leave it balled up like that?? That’s why it’s so funny.

  10. I'd have loved to find a Hindu Vishnu candle, and Ron would be ok with anything Bigfoot. LOL
My father-in-law told me many years ago that my doppelganger worked at a McDonald's he stopped in for lunch. I never got to go and see if we looked that much alike.
Very nice photo of you! And, of course, your granddaughter is very cute!

    2. That towel thing is so ridiculous. Wouldn’t it be harder to ball it up and try to shove it on the handle, rather than open it and place it nicely back so that it dries???

He denies it because that’s his schtick. We know it’s him because it’s happened when he was the only person over!

      Delete
    3. To do it when he was the only person there is a rookie mistake! He should've known better. :P

And agreed about the towel. Dumb, lazy move. Maybe if he was super tired...

  12. Occasionally we see a fox in the wild around here, but it is rare. Never seen a nosy one like yours. I don't get the Herman Munster guy at all. I'd guess that'd be fine with him. The towel situation is distressing, triggering within me a latent perfectionism that I try to rise above. WHY? Why is that towel there?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Yes, I'm sure Herman doesn't care what we think! There is no way I could pass by that towel without taking action.

  13. OK, that IS hilarious leaving little gag gifts behind. How cool to have deer and foxes in your yard. We had raccoons and there some here too. Occasionally a possum. Though where my sister lives there are deer and foxes. She will feed the deer apples and once a a fox chased her cat up a tree.

  15. Of course, I know who Herman Munster is, but Im afraid that there's a lot of people out there who don't. (Btw--who are those people?!)

I saw a fox once in my life--if I recall--while vacationing with my parents in Pennsylvania. Maybe I should leave some bacon bandages around and see if they turn up.

Lovely photo of granddaughter and I got a real kick out of you and your doppelganger (such a cute kid!)

Back in the day, people told me I looked like Billy Crystal, now, of course, I get the Telly Savalas, Yul Brenner comparisons.

  16. We have seen a few foxes in the wild, but never at our house or peeking in our patio door! A few years ago a subdivision by us was having a problem with a rabid fox that was trying to attack people. They warned people to carry sticks or whatever if they went outside for a few days until they finally got it. That pic of Kevin Bacon's son...what the heck? Your little granddaughter looks so cute in her Hello Kitty outfit!

  17. What a wonderfully random mix of fun moments! Your sister-in-law's husband sounds like a mischievous character, leaving odd treasures behind—those Bacon Bandages definitely take the cake! The fox sightings must be fascinating, especially with so much activity lately. The deer enjoying your pumpkins is such a sweet touch, though I can totally understand the hydrangea protection! That doppelganger moment must’ve been a bit eerie, but also pretty funny. And as for the Hello Kitty ensemble—Ron might just have to forgive you this time! Such a delightful collection of moments to share!

  18. I love the that your sister-in-law's husband leaves strange things behind. Before 9/11, I used to throw random weird things in people's suitcases after they paid us a visit. I am familiar with Herman Munster but was never a big fan of that show.

  20. Little girls love Hello Kitty, but I didn't realize it was still around; as it was popular when my daughter, who is now 40 was young. Bacon band aides, beyond weird. Why does he leave weird things that people can't use? We've had far too many deer in our yard, and they're eating too many of my bushes. I'm am not happy with them. We've tried to chase them away. We've had 6 at a time in our yard. Couple of weeks ago a 5 point buck came up on our deck even. We saw it on ring doorbell. I'd like to give someone permission to come hunting in our yard; but we're in the city so that's not possible. I really can't figure out why they come. We're one block off the main drag in our community, and it's a very busy 4 lane road, so it's not like we're in the country. Saw a fox once a year ago across the street and it was during the day which surprised me. I never put out food for animals, as I don't want to encourage them to come back; but one year we had a volunteer pumpkin vine that produced 7 small (7 inch) pumpkins and the squirrels really enjoyed them.

    1. Hello Kitty just won't go away. We have the same issues with deer. There's a herd of them that roam our neighborhood, and like you, we live in a development off of a 4 lane state route. I had a buck start to chase me two years ago while I was walking in the neighborhood at dusk. Just about scared me to death. Fortunately, a dog started barking at him and he was diverted.

  21. I am living that kitchen towel nightmare, daily. 🤣 Thank goodness he has so many lovely qualities.

Laughing so hard at your BIL leaving lovely little gifts around; he sounds like a character. I have friends who like to swipe pieces of my silverware and hide them for me to find later in random spots. JOY.

Sorry Ron, but I have always loved Little Kitty! Your granddaughter is a doll! What a fun find with your modeling doppelgänger---I laughed!

Um, yeah, what in the Herman Munster is going on at the Bacon house?

I've not seen a fox in The Wild, but they are so lovely. I think you're lucky!

    1. Silverware in random places? Again, I don’t see the humor in that if the person isn’t there to see you find it? Weird! I’m neutral on Hello Kitty. Oddly enough, Middle Child had always disliked it as well. Who knew it was so divisive? Seeing a fox is pretty cool. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Pelican though, so we’re even!

  22. I love foxes and would be giddy if I ever saw one in the wild. But I don't have small animals, so I don't have to worry about them killing my pets or farm animals.
I think HK is fun. I bought a bottle of sake with HK on it from World Market on our travels a few years back because I thought it was cute.
Your Bil sounds like a hoot. I think I'd die laughing at the random things found around after he leaves. The bacon bandaids are oddly hilarious!
My mom watched The Munsters all the time, so I do know who they are!
