I was excited to learn that some of my blogger friends also celebrate their birthday month. Here's a peek at how I enjoyed mine:
![]() |
| I save my favorite wine for special occasions. On May 1st, I opened my 2015 Rombauer Chardonnay. |
![]() |
| We took Middle Child to a benefit concert to see Steven Curtis Chapman. It was really good! He's a great storyteller, singer, and guitar player. |
![]() |
| I walked when I was able to dodge the rain. I love when people plant bulbs in large groupings like these irises. |
![]() |
| As a follow-up to last month's post, here's the handmade card from Middle Child for Mother's Day this year. |
![]() |
| On a beautiful Friday evening, my husband and I sat outside at a winery and had dinner. All of their wines are song names. This one is 'Nights In White Satin.' |
![]() |
| I celebrated my birthday 'in space!' |
![]() |
| And had a lovely evening in Versailles, Ohio. |
![]() |
| Attended my granddaughters' dance recital. |
![]() |
| After a number of mediocre books, I landed on this one during my birthday week! Mid 80's department store employees. This book could not have been more personally relatable. |

| May mornings, I have this view of our pink dogwood from our bedroom window. It brings me joy! |

May is also my birthday month! I'm so glad you were able to enjoy celebrations from start to finish and there are so many happy things here!
ReplyDeleteI have been enjoying all the signs of summer; warmer weather, blooms. We had a fairly rainy May and the sunshine the last few days has been glorious!
Isn’t it a great month for a birthday? I love the start of my favorite season: SUMMER! But yes, it’s been raining a lot!
DeleteI love that birthday card. Clever.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteOMG, I love those (what looks like COASTERS) with your Bitmoji on them in that first photo of the wine bottle. They are SO cute!!!
ReplyDeleteHow awesome that you took Middle Child to see/hear Steven Curtis Chapman. What a GREAT voice he has! And BTW, the Mother's Day card she made for you is so beautiful!
Looking at your wine photos makes me think that I've got to try a white wine again because I only drink red. But I noticed "White Timbers" is a DRY wine. I'll have to look for that brand in the wine store.
Okay, and that photo of your granddaughters' dance recital is priceless! They both look so adorable!
"I received some very thoughtful gifts, like a bamboo cutting board, locally produced honey, herbal teas, and dark chocolate."
ALL of which sound like things I would enjoy. I don't eat many sweets, but dark chocolate is something I worship! Great photo of you!
Thanks so much for sharing your birthday month, my friend! Can you believe that JUNE is almost here?!?
Have a terrific weekend! X
Hi Ron! My son had those coasters made with my Bitmoji for Christmas a number of years ago. They always make me smile! Oh, I'm glad you've heard of Chapman! He sang a wide variety of songs. It was really good! You won't find White Timbers anywhere. They are just a small local winery. I like white wine (especially sparkling) in the summer because they are lighter and refreshing. I love receiving consumable gifts because I honestly don't need anything anymore. Let's hope June is a dry month, because it's been Noah's Ark weather lately! XO
DeleteWhat an absolutely PERFECT birthday month! And you know I immediately put that Shopgirls book on hold at my library. I love the month of May and I love how you celebrated. If you like Riesling, you would LOVE the winery that I live below. (vineyard and winery used to belong to my husband's family, but hasn't for over twenty years) They make an absolutely amazing Riesling. I love that photo of you! You look so happy!
ReplyDeleteI really liked Shopgirls! I've read all the Blau books now, but Mary Jane was my favorite. Some of the others were not that good. The Wonder Bread Summer was just awful and I want you to read it so we can diss it together! LOL! I do like dry Rieslings and I love that you live on the family vineyard property! So cool! And thanks!
DeleteLooks like you had a great birthday. I like the idea of wines with song names. And isn't it a relief when after a run of so-so books you find one that's totally enjoyable?
ReplyDeleteWe came across another winery with song names in Napa. It was fun to walk around the vineyard and see the signs for the songs. It is such a relief to find a great book!
DeleteI love that you had fun and special moments all month long, starting on the first of May. Go you!
ReplyDeleteYour granddaughters are so darn adorable, and the card from Middle Daughter is very special.
I need to read Shopgirl!
Irises==SWOON.
I can't tell you how touching it is to know that your grandkids are learning the meaning of love, loss and memorializing those who came before us, those who've served this country.
You did a lot of special stuff, but nothing over the top, right? I mean, we can take an ordinary day and add in a special bottle of wine, lunch with friends, or seeing a concert and with a good mindset for fun, everything is a celebration. Cheers to another trip around the sun!
I’m so proud of my daughter and son-in-law. They are really raising their children right in so many ways. We can’t wait for our family vacation this summer! Yes, we nee$ to celebrate life everyday, big or small. Can’t wait to hear about the wedding!πΎπ
DeleteHappy Birthday. Looks like it was a nice one for you.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mary.
DeleteNot too shabby, Bijoux. Happy belated birthday and enjoy the last two days of your month.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mr. Shife. I wish the weather knew it was May.
DeleteLooks like a fun birthday month! My birthday is in January and being as it's right after the holidays I can't summon the energy to celebrate all month. My hubby and oldest grandson have birthdays in January too, so I guess that's enough celebration!
ReplyDeleteYeah, January is my least favorite month. It would be difficult to do many fun things unless you were indoors the whole time or went far away!
DeleteAww, you had an amazing birthday month! I love that your daughter takes her children to put flags on the graves. We used to do that every Memorial Day for my grandfather and other relatives when we lived in Ohio. Such a special tradition.
ReplyDeleteThat book looks really interesting—I'm adding it to my list. Also, that is such a great picture of you! Happy birthday month, my friend. πππ
I’m so happy my daughter does that. It’s not something I was ever exposed to as a child. No one in my family ever discussed anyone who had died and I’m sad that I never got to hear any stories about them. I enjoyed that book so much. It brought back many memories of working in retail. Like how nice the women in cosmetics were! Thanks for visiting on my last day of the birthday month! XO
DeleteA great summary of your special month. The wine alfresco looks inviting and the cover of the Shopgirls book by the author of Mary Jane [!] made me smile. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I hope your June is as fun as your May even if it isn't your birthday month!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ally. We love to dine outdoors but the weather has not been cooperating lately. Here’s to June πΎ
DeleteHappy birthday! So wonderful you had a fantastic month.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteSounds like a wonderful month. LOVE the card she made for you, she is so creative. The photo of you is awesome, you look fabulous. Also love the idea of taking them to pay their respects at the grave sites. That is very cool!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lori! We were celebrating at the same time, weren't we? Happy birthday to us!
DeleteIf I had so many fun things to do (and great wine to drink), I might extend my birthday celebration to a full month too!
ReplyDeleteI love big groupings of bulbs too. (Flowers, not lights, but I suppose illumination is cool in its own way). I asked Tara to plant a crap load of allium bulbs last fall, and we are currently reaping the benefit.
Join the Birthday Month Brigade next year! Those alliums really make a big impression. Love it!
DeleteI might just do that!
DeleteWhat a busy and enjoyable month you had! My sister and I were both born in May.
ReplyDeleteI love the birthday card and your granddaughters' recital photo. And I especially love that photo of you! Happy Birthday Month.
Yeah for more May birthdays! Thanks for your kindness, as always.
DeleteWhat a great birthday month! It sounds like you had so many fun little celebrations throughout May. Good food, good wine, good music, good friends... just no balloons LOL.
ReplyDeleteI love the card from your daughter! Such a sweet gift!
Your grands are too cute in their dance costumes.
I'm glad it's not just me on a mediocre book reading spree. I have dnf more books this year than any other time in my life. While I wasn't old enough to work in the 80's, I still love that era and will add Shopgirls to my reading list. Can't be any worse than what I've picked up lately.
Lol, yeah what’s up with these bad books? I tried a Nancy Thayer beach read again last week. It was just not good, but boy is she popular!
DeleteThat recital was so cute! It was the entire studio, so we got to see high schoolers perform, too. Some were super talented! We’ll see if either of the grands stick with it. They’re also trying softball this summer. Now that was their mom’s thing!
Someone just recommended The Things We Leave Unfinished. I'm going to try that read next, but it's hard to get excited for a book when it seems like so many have been duds lately.
DeleteSoftball sounds fun! I hope they love it and have a great season!
I’m reading California Dreamers right now. I had high hopes, but they are dashed ππ€£
DeleteWhat a lovely birthday month you enjoyed.
ReplyDeleteLovely photographs you've shared.
May your month of June be a good one too.
All the best Jan
Let’s hope the weather is warm, Jan!
DeleteOmgosh. Where do I begin? First of all you're gorgeous and you look MUCH younger than your age. I'm jealous. There, I said it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to spend your birthday. You most definitely live in an inner space of pure gratitude and it shows. That's why you look so young and I don't. I bitch about everything. Lol. I love everything about this post. It just feels good reading it. I'm happy you had such a wonderful time.
I loved seeing my granddaughter dance. I was just so mesmerized and proud and in awe. Those dancers dance their hearts out! My granddaughter is with a dance studio too and watching the seniors in dance who were graduating, all I could think was I wonder who will stick with it. I loved watching the tap dances. I didn't like the contemporary dancing at all.
MC's cards to you always make me smile. I love that she put tissue inside the cup! Now I want to do that! A ghost coming up out of a Halloween mug.
I bet the Steven Curtis Chapman concert was great. I really like his songs, Fingerprints of God and I Will Be Here.
I need to know if Katy Perry was inside that space ship with you. Lol.
I love groupings of flowers. I especially like it when they're planted so that when some of the flowers are dying off other are blooming so it's like a continuous bloom of color. Purple Iris' are one of my favorites. My sister grew some that smelled like grape Kool-Aid. It was so weird.
Your pink dogwood tree is beautiful and how wonderful that you get to see it in the mornings. A great way to start your day.
Yes. I would say your daughter and S-I-L are raising their children very well. It's so important to remember and be thankful. My daughter takes my granddaughter to my parents' graves too - they're both in a military cemetery - to place flags and just visit. :)
I have not heard of Jessica Anya Blau so I don't know any of her books but I'm almost to the end of my current read so I'll look her and her books up.
The wine with song names... Omg. Do they take requests because I would love my own personal wine, The Bitch Is Back. Of course it would have to be something really fruity. I saw that the Knights in White Satin was a dry wine. I've had ONE sip of a dry wine in my entire life. My uncle was drinking it and he gave me a sip and I knew then, never again. I don't see the point of drinking it. It sucks the moisture right out of your head! Lol. I have 2 favorite wines, both sweet, Huckleberry and Riesling. - That is a super cool thing that winery does. I wonder what other song titles they have.
Happy, Happy Birthday again. I hope your year ahead is as wonderful as your birthday month has been. A wonderful post. Absolutely loved it.
You are so darned sweet, Mimi! I REALLY appreciate your long comment and that you took the time to read previous posts. But believe me, I bitch about a lot of stuff. My current beef is with the ridiculous amount of construction surrounding all of Cleveland right now. I swear, once you find a detour, they close that damn road, too! It’s insane!
DeleteI feel exactly like you do about dance shows. Love to watch the tap dancers (my son was one for 6 years!) and the graduating seniors, but I could do without the contemporary dance. I feel like I could do what they’re doing ππ€£
That’s so cool that your daughter also takes your grand to the military cemetery to visit your parents’ graves. So meaningful!
Ok, if you see a Blau book called Wonder Bread something or other, AVOID at all costs! It was terrible. I did like the rest of her books though.
I only like dry wines, but they are an acquired taste, for sure. Thanks so much for your amazing comment! XO
