An early summer edition of interesting things I've come across recently:
![]() |
| I read a lot of Clifford books to my kids, but I don't remember one entitled, 'Clifford the Big Red Dog Goes to the City Dump and Never Returns.' So sad! |
![]() |
| It's also sad when you have to go through a security gate to get into a grocery store. |
![]() |
| Also sad when people don't know how to park! |
![]() |
| I chuckled when I opened this gift from Middle Child for my birthday. She told me she knew I liked raspberries! |
![]() |
| This book did not make me laugh. The setting was California in the 1980's . . . |
![]() |
| And it was labeled, 'Historical Fiction.' Like, WTH??? I find that offensive! |
![]() |
| I'm on a quest to try new fruits, so I bought these golden berries for the first time. |
![]() |
| Here you can see what they look like inside. They were more tangy than sweet. I doubt I'd buy them again. |
![]() |
| If you ever bought your daughter an American Girl doll, you might find this as funny as I did. |
![]() |
| I found it ironic that a landscape company is advertising on the worst lawn in the neighborhood. Way to get business! |
![]() |
| People around here freak out over coyotes. Click to enlarge this sarcastic flyer. |

We took our grands out for ice cream and came across this car in the parking garage. Who you gonna call??Happy Summer! |

"It's also sad when you have to go through a security gate to get into a grocery store."
ReplyDeleteExactly! The next thing you know, they'll be asking us to go thru a TSA protocol, by scanning our handbags and backpacks going IN and OUT of the store. Meanwhile, the people who are actually stealing are simply walking into a store, taking what they want, and then walking out of the store. Being in retail, I see that all day long.
The "parking thing" used to make me crazy when I had a car and drove because it makes it so much harder for someone else to park. Grrrrrr!^%#
Be careful using that Hempz moisturizer, you don't want to get too much of a BUZZ. Lol!
I've never tried golden berries, but have seen then. Thanks for the your feedback. They resemble teeny-tiny oranges.
LOVE the bumper sticker!!!! And that coyote flyer is very funny.
Your grandkids are SO cute! I remember when that movie first came out in the 80s ---
"Who you gonna call? GHOSTBUSTERS!"
FUN, FUN post, my friend! Happy Wednesday! X
Good morning, Ron! Security in these stores is such a joke. In the department store I worked in decades ago, it was all unarmed female security. I’m sorry, but what were they going to do if we ever had a serious incident? Also, they only checked handbags of employees leaving at store closing (10 pm), NOT if you worked the day shift and left at 5 pm. That made zero sense to me!
DeleteThe golden berries were also sticky, making you think they’d be sweet. Not! Middle Child hated them. I thought they were fine mixed in with yogurt, but not something I’d snack on by themselves.
Our grands sure make us smile! We took them to a Lemonberry for the first time. Do you have those? It’s frozen soft serve yogurt with a ton of topping choices. They were so excited when they saw all they could choose from. I put strawberry bobas on mine. It was my first time trying bobas and I enjoyed them. Happy Hump Day!
No, we don't have Lemonberry's in PA. I Googled it and saw that they are only in Ohio. They look delicious!
DeleteI remember when all the TCBYs left, so it’s nice to have Lemonberrys around!
DeleteHahaha oh poor Clifford! We didn't have many of those books (maybe not even any!) when the boys were little, but there was a show on Treehouse that was Clifford the puppy. They didn't watch it much but the theme song had a line that was "love makes little things grow" and it still brings me to tears. Like, I'm welling up thinking about it right this second.
ReplyDeleteWe have lots of coyotes around here. I don't worry too much about them BUT one of the neighbours had a little dachshund who somehow got out of their yard, and was subsequently eaten. Also I knew a few people who lost outdoor cats that way, when we lived in Calgary. Coyotes going to coyote, you know? I never worry about Rex because he's twice the size, but if there's a pack, then I just keep my eye on him. I don't think they ever attack people! Well, maybe small children.
We have those security gates at grocery stores here, but I thought it was to keep people from walking out without paying, since they only open one way.
I thought those berries were little tomatoes at first! I've never tried those, or even seen them.
Awww your grandkids are so cute! Ghostbusters!
My kids really liked the Clifford books and I did too because they weren't long. Berenstain Bear books were the worst! We never saw the Clifford show as it was probably past my kids' prime for children's television. But I still get teary eyed over the Bear in the Big Blue House goodbye song.
DeleteCoyotes are like politics here! People argue online constantly. There are animal activists who think coyotes can do no wrong and deny that they've ever eaten/maimed any dogs, cats, or children, EVER! It's ridiculous!
I snorted at your title for the "new" Clifford book. I recently had to put a giant bear out with the trash... but I put him in a bag (mainly to hide him from my kid, who was not pleased to say goodbye).
ReplyDeleteThat coyote emergency flyer cracks me up.
My daughter has been wooed by the sunberries twice, and each time has eaten one and found them unpleasant. I also find them unpleasant, so it's a huge waste. (The first time, I bought them because we hadn't tried them and I like to encourage adventurous eating. The second time, she was with my husband and he didn't remember we'd tried them -- and disliked them -- previously. Hopefully we are now all aware that we don't like them!
Thank you so much for visiting and for your fun comment! Those giant stuffed animals are hard to part with. I totally get hiding the bear in a trash bag. I can see myself forgetting that I've tried the sunberries a year from now and then buying them again. They look quite appetizing!
DeleteHow could anyone send Clifford to the dump?
ReplyDeleteI also find the 1980's being labeled as 'historic' highly offensive. That can't be right.
Our local Menard's is horrible. You have to walk a mile to get in and to get back out because of all of the security cut offs. I don't like to go there anymore because of it. I feel almost trapped in there.
Love the coyote sign. And the picture of your grands with the Ghostbuster car is priceless.
I hope you're enjoying summer.
I felt so bad for Clifford! I wonder what Emily Elizabeth would think? LOL! My husband told me to tear off the Historical sticker when I pointed it out to him. He was mad and he doesn't even read fiction!
DeleteYes, this particular store makes it very difficult to run in to buy produce or dairy because all the exits are blocked off, besides the self serve checkouts. It's very annoying and I wonder what would happen if there was a fire??
Aw, Clifford. Poor guy. He looks like he's in really good shape. Why not donate? Maybe charities don't take stuffed toys? Those 'berries' look like yellow tomatoes. Yuck. That bumper sticker made me laugh. I saw a Ghost busters look a like car recently too. So funny. California in the 80s is NOT historical fiction. I'm offended too. The lawn care place - Duh. Hilarious.
ReplyDeleteI've heard that charities won't take stuffies because of bed bugs. I saw Clifford on a Sunday night and we get a lot of pickers before Monday morning, so hopefully someone went away with a Big Red Dog and were happy. I picked up a perfectly good Barbie Dream House last Fall, cleaned it up, and gave it to my granddaughters for Christmas. It was in mint condition and the elevator still worked. Why would anyone just throw that in the trash??
DeleteSomeone else told me they've seen Ghostbuster cars in the past. I wonder what they're used for? I can't even with the 1980's being considered historical! Gag me with a spoon!
ReplyDeleteClifford! Our girls both loved him — especially the cartoon on PBS. It makes me sad that he’s headed to the dump. It reminds me of Toy Story 3. BUT… bed bugs and lice are two very solid reasons I wouldn’t let that guy anywhere near my car. 😬
I’ve always had a fear of coyotes and hawks when it comes to the dogs. Our backyard is a little protected, but I don’t walk them for this reason — especially Biscuits, since he’s so small. One of Anna’s ex-boyfriend’s dads took their small dog for a walk once, and a coyote stalked them the entire time. It wasn’t even afraid of the human!
And the Ghostbusters car?? WAY cool. I love that you got a picture of your grandkids with it!!
Clifford was such a lovable character. Yes, bed bugs and lice are a real thing, so I would not want him in my house either. We see coyotes every few months or so in broad daylight. It's always a surprise, where I'm like was that a dog or a coyote?? Their gait usually gives it a way. The other side of the Ghostbusters car had Slimer (the green blob ghost) peeking out of the backseat. My grandson did not like that, but the girls thought it was hilarious!
DeletePoor Clifford, poor us if we start having security gates everywhere. California in the 80s doesn't seem to historical, but it was a long time ago and I spent a fair amount of time out there during the 80s and 90s. Great photos and commentary.
ReplyDeleteThe security gates are concerning if there's a fire because they don't open the opposite way. I feel as though nothing should be considered historical if it's less than 50 years old at a minimum.
DeleteThat is one giant Clifford which...I guess fits. I am so relieved neither of my kids has ever been given a giant stuffy like that. You'd practically need a separate bed/room just for the stuffed animal. Though I'm sure I would have liked something just like that as a kiddo.
ReplyDeleteWe have coyotes locally and while I've never seen one, I know it's a major issue in a neighbouring town when it comes to the coyote nabbing dogs from the backyards of homes :(
Our kids didn't have any large stuffed animals either. Thank goodness! I know my daughter was not happy when her in-laws gave the oldest grandson a huge teddy bear. It's either in the basement or they threw it out because I haven't seen it in a few years. Coyotes are always being debated here between the animal rights folks vs dog owners.
DeleteSomeone threw out Clifford? I'm offended by that, I know not why, but it seems sad. Golden berries? I've yet to see them but I may not be looking for them so I don't see them,. However now that I know about them I'll see them everywhere., right? The Ghostbuster car is the best. What a fab thing to stumble over.
ReplyDeleteIt seems so wasteful to think of Clifford at the dump. Yes, you'll be seeing golden berries all over the place now!
DeleteOne of the grocery stores we frequent also recently installed these security gates, but it seems ridiculous as they are to enter and just how would entry be refused? There are a couple of residents here who also do not know how to parallel park in the garage, but i have seen some on the roadside as well. Maybe the lawn company has another motive?
ReplyDeleteI’m noticing more and more people taking up two parking spots like the car in the picture. Pulling up too far or parking over the line on the side. They must notice while exiting their car and don’t care!
DeleteI loved Clifford too. I've been to stores that t have the same style of entry as your grocery store. It is typically found in stores that don't have those anti theft systems. Maybe they feel these help with the problem of shop lifting. I have seen those berries & was wondering what they taste like. I have bought ground cherries at the farmers market & they were more lime tomatoes than berries.
ReplyDeleteYes, this store is a discount type of store (though since 2020, most items are now the price at any other store🙄) so I’m sure they don’t have an anti-theft system in place. Ground cherries is a new one to me! A lime tomato flavor sounds bad!
DeleteThe Ghostbusters car is hilarious.I liked Clifford too.
ReplyDeleteThey were fun finds!
DeleteOur Walmart had that security thing for a bit, but ended up removing them. We were in Minnesota last weekend and their Walmart just employs 2 police officers to sit at the front of the store. Not security, but 2 real officers of the law.
ReplyDeletePoor Clifford. Nothing looks wrong with him from the photo too, so sad they didn't find a kid to take that off their hands.
Thanks for the review of that fruit. I just saw them at Whole Foods and contemplated buying some, but passed. I think I'll skip them for good after hearing your thoughts on them.
I need that bumper sticker for my daughter. She was obsessed with those dolls!
I'd totally geek out over seeing that car. What a fun thing to stumble upon!!
This is the first store I’ve seen security gates like that. My oldest had the Samantha doll and that bumper sticker cracked me up! The doll looked so prissy to me🤣
DeleteYour Grandkids are so adorable! What little joys you have there.
ReplyDeleteI also loved reading Clifford The Big Red Dog to our girls and even 'met him' with toddler Lolo at a bookstore once. I'm sad to see him tossed like that. But then again, maybe he was afflicted with bed bugs? Or lice?
Ok, now I'm itching!
I've not walked through security to enter a store. Was this in NY? California? NO? What is happening in Ohio?
I'm also totally offended about the historical fiction--that is downright rude.
The berries look like yellow tomatoes. No?
Aww, thank you, we enjoy them SO much! Not pictured is my son’s daughter who is 20 months old and the prettiest little thing. They are the ones who recently moved away, so we won’t be seeing them as much anymore 😢
DeleteWhat a fun memory of meeting Clifford. Rude is right about that book! Yes, I thought the berries resembled yellow grape tomatoes. It’s weird to bite into something that looks familiar and have the flavor be completely different.
Every one of these pictures was great! I too am offended by something from the 80's being labeled Historical Fiction! I've tasted those berries before. I think they are more appropriate for a garden salad than a fruit salad! It is sad that you have to go through security gate to enter a store. Ugh! The way people park sometimes is my pet peeve! Especially in a crowded parking lot!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you enjoyed them! Yes, maybe if there was salad dressing on the berries, they'd taste better. I'm over retail in general. Everything has become self service these days, while the prices keep increasing. It's nuts!
DeleteI loved Clifford the Big Red Dog too, and I'm pretty sure I had a stuffed animal. I really hope that didn't end up in the garbage too!
ReplyDeleteThe golden berries look a lot like cherry tomotos. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing...just not especially fruity.
Having lived in California in the 1980s, that feels so long ago, it might as well be ancient history by now!
Well, if you haven't seen your Clifford in a while . . .
DeleteThey really did look like yellow cherry tomatoes. Which made it even more disconcerting to bite into one.
The coyote spoof is very funny.
ReplyDeleteWhy would someone dump such an endearing Big Red Dog?
My supermarket also has security gates. As Ron says, the actual thieves simply walk in and take whatever they want.
Yes, the retail world is a mess. Everything has become self-serve checkouts with prices at an all-time high. Cashiers have told me that they are told to not do anything if they see someone leave without paying. Stores do not want to be liable if someone pulls a gun or knife.
DeleteHere in the UK many stores have similar security gates, shoplifting is a growing problem.
ReplyDeleteLovely photograph of the Grands by the Ghostbuster car :)
All the best Jan
It’s too bad that shoplifting is increasing everywhere. Thank you!
DeleteClifford looks like he went on a three-day bender. I haven't encountered the store security gates at my neighborhood supermarket. But it is pretty depressing.
ReplyDeleteThe cops clearly know their Loony Tunes and I'm freaking out that a book about the 1980s gets the historical fiction tag. What gives?
Love the grandkids with the Ghostbuster car!
Clifford definitely had a bad day. Isn’t the coyote thing a hoot? I’m sure they get tired of people calling about them. Yeah, my husband and I were offended by the historical tag. Obviously the work of Gen Z!
DeleteYour grands are so cute! And how cool that you found that Ghostbuster's car! I'd love to know the story behind that car. How fun.
ReplyDeleteClifford on the side of the road. Boo. Why would somebody do that? Can you imagine how many kids went by that and were so sad. Of course, we say that. What did the other side of Clifford look like? Maybe they had giant dogs that ate a hole through Clifford? Another back story we'll never know.
The notice about the coyotes was funny! - How was that lotion? I love anything that smells like grapefruit or raspberry. - The bumper sticker is funny. Lol. - Those berries looked like cherry tomatoes on the inside. - I watch some of the lawn guys on YouTube who clean up the hideous yards for free and you get to see the before and after. It would be funny if the YouTube came by to clean up that yard.
Another wonderful posts and I love catching up on them so I get multiple smiles. :)
Thank you, we sure think they are adorbs, too! The other side of Clifford was fine; I walked on that side of the road later. Maybe no one wanted him or he smelled bad 🤣
DeleteThe lotion is GREAT! It smells really good. It’s from TJMaxx. Sorry for the delayed reply. You know where I was!
Why am I showing up as anonymous? Weird.
ReplyDeleteBlogger is nuts sometimes!
DeleteThat security gate doesn't look like it would do much. The Wal-Mart here has had one for at least a couple of years, but none of the grocery stores do.
ReplyDeleteI love the coyote poster! It annoys me when people freak out over seeing animals outside. It's their habitat! I love that the sheriff's office is poking fun at them.
I can't believe anyone is calling the 80s historical! That's a little depressing.
Yeah, I think people could just hop over that gate if they wanted to. Isn’t the poster hilarious? The arguments I’ve seen online about coyotes, foxes, deer, etc. 🙄 People need to get a real life! I’m still mad about the 80’s book label.
