Photo Friday: Happy 39th!

I wish I was referring to my birthday but that’s actually my anniversary number. No clue how that happened, but we celebrated in style at a newer fine dining establishment that is library themed. Each month, a new 'chapter' menu is introduced. At the end of the night, an antique book is left at your table for you to write whatever you'd like.

We started the evening sharing this beef cheek pierogi over a mushroom ragout and topped with horseradish creme fraiche.

For the second course, my husband tried the cauliflower leek soup with gruyere and bacon.

Main course was sea scallops over farro with shaved brussels and a sauce of tart cherries with a pistachio crunch for hubby.

I went for the halibut with asparagus, beet risotto, and lemon saffron butter.

You did not think we were going to pass up dessert, did you? My husband had the pineapple upside down cake with vanilla bean ice cream.

I had the chocolate pot de creme with a glazed banana. Everything was outstanding, including the service!

The reason I chose this restaurant is because it is located in the same dining district as the restaurant where we had our wedding reception. That area saw a decline in the early 2000's, but they are attempting a revitalization. We walked around after dinner and attempted to point out spots where we had wedding pictures taken.

This is me posing for a re-creation under the old canopy by the front door where we had our wedding reception.

Obviously, we should have looked at our wedding album beforehand because that was nothing like the real photo!

Afterwards, as we were walking back to the car, I spotted this painted rock along some steps. I can't begin to tell you how happy this made me!!!! It has been a rough couple of weeks since I lost my mom, but the universe is sending me love. Thanks for all your kind comments on my previous post. XOXO

What's your favorite way to spend an anniversary? Are you better at photo re-creations than we are?

  1. Okay, I LOVE the whole "library concept" to the restaurant you went to on your anniversary. That is so COOL! Oh, and Happy Anniversary to you and your husband!

Wow, the photos and descriptions of what you ordered looked and sounded so delicious! I love leeks, so that soup is something I would have ordered as well. And both desserts looked heavenly.

I could definitely tell the same location in the comparison wedding reception AND your recreation. I love the "Just Married" sign on the car. That's such a classic in what people did back then. And do you remember how some people used to also attach strings and tin cans on the back of the car?! LOL!

"It has been a rough couple of weeks since I lost my mom, but the universe is sending me love."

Yes, that LOVE rock sighting was most definitely a LOVE sign from your mom/Universe! That totally made me smile!

Please know that I continue to send you much prayers and love as you move through this rough time.

    ((((((((((((((((((( X YOU X ))))))))))))))))))))))

Thanks so much for sharing your 39th anniversary, my friend. Muchly enjoyed! And have a great weekend!

    X

    1. Thank you for the early morning greetings, Ron. Yes, I remember the tin cans attached to cars. We did not get a limo, but rented that Lincoln Town Car for 24 hours. Our best man drove it back to the rental agency the next morning because we had already left for our honeymoon in Toronto. I was so excited to find that rock!!! Thank you so much for your prayers. Some days are easier than others. We are off on a road trip today! Happy weekend!

  2. You know I clicked on that photo and enlarged it so I could admire your outfit!!! What a great dress - the wedding dress as well as the blue one! Happy anniversary Bijoux!! What a lovely way to celebrate. And that love rock, it's a sign. I was in the garden yesterday and a butterfly landed right beside me, it made me smile and I thought of you. I am sure it's been difficult, but you're in my heart. xo

    1. That is so kind of you to say. My wedding dress was sort of plain. I designed it myself and a seamstress made it for me, along with my bridesmaid’s dress (I only had one; my childhood best friend). And as you can see by my blue dress, I continue to wear solid color clothes without many frills 🤓 That is so sweet of you to think of me when you see a butterfly! I love it!

  3. Aww. Love the throw-back wedding picture <3 So sweet.
We haven't recreated any wedding pictures, but the day we got engaged we went to a covered bridge and engraved our initials. So a few years ago on our anniversary (can't remember which one), we went back and carved updated initials into the bridge.

Once we were visiting PEI and I wanted the kids to recreate a picture from a movie scene. It makes me smile whenever I look at that picture.

I'm sure life has so many emotions right now. Sending hugs <3

    1. One year for Christmas, my three kids did three recreated photos from their childhood! I laughed so hard because they looked so ridiculous. It is a great gift idea if you have siblings.

  4. Oh, friend, I just love this. First of all — Happy Anniversary! The restaurant looks amazing, and I love the idea of the book. And that food… oh my goodness.

The love rock feels like such a beautiful sign. I’ve noticed so many butterflies since you first told us about them. I always think of you when I see one, but I haven’t sent them your way because I know how heavy grief can feel. Please just know that you’ve been in my heart and on my mind almost every single day since your mom died. Sending you so much love, my friend 😘💜

    1. We love to splurge for anniversaries (and my birthday). The fancy dessert is always the best part. Can you believe that rock? During the pandemic, Middle Child painted a bunch and we hid them in various parks. People usually put a hashtag on the back so you could take a photo and post it on some Facebook page, but that seemed like a lot of work to me. Thank you soooo much for all your love sent my way. I definitely feel it ❣️

  5. Happy Anniversary to you and your husband!! The restaurant you chose looks awesome and the food pictures along with your descriptions made my mouth water.
Great attempt on the wedding recreation photo. You look great in both.
How awesome to find that rock with love on it!! That is most definitely a sign.
I think of you often and continue to pray for you. Losing a parent is so hard and brings up so much. Big hugs to you.
Enjoy your weekend and the get away.

    1. Thank you so much, Lori. I really appreciate the prayers. I managed to clean out the upstairs bedroom where I had a lot of mom’s clothes and toiletries stored for when she needed replenishment at the assisted living place. I drove 45 minutes away to donate everything to a place that my mom liked to support. It’s a unique organization where families pay $12/year and then can choose 12 items per month. It’s run by volunteers, so I’m assuming the money goes towards utilities.

We are back home and I’ll blog about the adventure next month.

  6. First, Bijoux, my belated condolences on the recent passing of your mother as I have not read blogs in a couple of weeks. Second, congrats on your wedding anniversary which is a day after our own (#26). We also celebrated by dining at a local restaurant and I sill share in a future post. Your meals looked as great as our own😋 and of course, you could not forgo dessert…and wine, hopefully🥂

  7. As you say, the re-creation was nothing like the original! That was a very fancy bridal dress.
Our favourite treat for anniversaries is a slap-up meal at a local restaurant or a visit to the cinema.

  8. To tell you the truth we pretty much let our anniversaries come and go without a whole lot of fanfare. The bonds between us are still very close, however.

  9. This meal sounds epic. I can't say I recognize many of the ingredients/plates mentioned, but I'm not much for fancy dining. But - I will say that I was somewhat underwhelmed when Coach took me to a barbeque place with plastic folks and paper plates for our anniversary. It's a long story that I plan to share one day . . . soon-ish. So many good Mini stories to tell still. We celebrated our 29th on Aug 10th and ended up on a wild adventure. I'm hoping for a do-over one day. We tend to go to our fav restaurant for dinner. It's a steak place called Wild Fire. This year Coach took us downtown. Then all hell broke loose. Love that you found that heart rock. So sweet. I hope you are doing well. I know that it has been a challenging time, one that I cannot yet imagine. Happy anniversary!

    1. Thank you, my friend ❤️ I do love BBQ, but not the paper plates and forks for an anniversary! Next year, we both celebrate milestone anniversaries. Start planning now! I’m doing okay. A lot of headaches with mom’s banks and getting money back from assisted living place. It’s taken way too many phone calls and emails to accomplish anything 😵‍💫

  11. Happy Anniversary! My husband and I like to try new fancy restaurants for our anniversary. I'm up for anything but my husband is not such an adventurous eater so we usually stick to some kind of steak house or Italian restaurant! Love the rock you found and it's so perfect!

  14. Hey Friend. I actually just opened up my laptop, with a goal to go into my insta-face, to send you a message that You Have Been On My Mind. I was thinking of you a few days ago and meant to let you know just that. I was remembering how much the grief roller coaster can be, and you are in my thoughts. (I'm under the weather, so that message thought came and left a few days ago--sorry!)

Instead, I saw this post. Sending you guys the happiest CHEERS for your anniversary. I love how you both enjoy lavish and fun dinners---which is the perfect way to celebrate our special moments together. The dinner and dessert look perfect; that great mix of normal and what I would call 'foo-foo' food. You know, fancy, but still filling!

The found Love rock is the perfect way to end your walk down memory lane.

  15. Happy Anniversary! 39 years is an amazing accomplishment! The library themed restaurant sounds like something I would really enjoy. The food looks so delicious. You look amazing then and now. The canopy definitely changed over the years, but still a fun pic to try to recreate. The love rock was such a cool find, too. The universe works in such funny ways sometimes, doesn't it?

  17. Happy 39th anniversary. Perfect way to celebrate. The restaurant's library theme is so unique and all the food looks amazing. It's so cute that you went back to that spot. Reading about you finding that painted rock at the end made my heart just melt. I'm so glad you found that little sign of love from the universe, especially during such a hard time. Thanks so much for sharing your special night with all of us.
