More critters! This is along the back wall of our garage near the door into the house. One day, we heard some faint tweeting sounds in the garage but couldn't find anything as the noise stopped whenever we were near that wall. I became convinced a bird was in one of our pots, but I couldn't find it. My husband finally got a flashlight and removed some of the stacks and sure enough, a tiny baby bird was at the bottom of one. We brought the pot outside, but the bird wouldn't fly away, so my husband dumped it under one of our bird houses in front, hoping mama would find it. It was gone the next day, so let's hope for the best. The weird part is, we don't know how it could have landed all the way in the back of our garage like that? A mystery!

Those first flowers are STUNNNING! LOVE the color! They remind me of a lotus flower.
ReplyDeleteI think it's so cool that you have deer sightings in your backyard. I remember spending a week in the Pocono Mountains many years ago and seeing deer all over the place whenever I went for my walks. I saw quite a few mother and baby deer sightings. So CUTE.
Aren't the prices of things in stores insane? I was in Sprouts last week and saw a glass jar of beets for $9.00! That's right, you heard me right....NINE dollars. When I saw the price tag, I held up my middle finger and said, "I DON'T THINK SO" Ha!
"When I pointed out that he must have received a senior discount, he was not too happy! LOL!"
I remember the first time I ever got a "senior discount" by a cashier at Ross and I felt the same way. However, now with the prices of everything, I welcome those senior discounts. LOL!
I agree, that is weird about the bird landing all the way in the back of the garage!?!?
I too have seen a ton of construction in our city this summer. But it's been continuing throughout the fall as well. It seems that every time I pick a sidewalk (left or right), I have to cross the street halfway down a block because of all the construction blockage.
Can you believe it's NOVEMBER already? Starting in early October, I actually saw customers shopping for Christmas gifts. Aaahhhhh...retail! LOL!
Happy November, my friend. Enjoyed this post! X
The fawns are very cute, until they eat your flowers! Then they become Satan! 🤣 Nine dollars for a jar of vegetable anything is outrageous! At least egg prices came back down a bit. What’s been pissing me off lately is the price of Greek yogurt. Is there a cow shortage???
DeleteI’ve never been offered a senior discount, but I don’t know all the rules. Sometimes it’s for 55+ and sometimes 65+ and then only on certain days. Too many rules!
You’re in the midst of construction, too! It’s been insanity here. It took them 5 months to pave about a one mile stretch of the main road out of our development. It’s been so frustrating.
I hope the shoppers behave this year! Stay strong, Ron!
Hey kids, want some candy??? That, along with the creepy garage clown? Ai-yi-yi. Police, be better! What's next, are they going to ask if the kids want to see a puppy???
ReplyDeleteYou have so much wildlife in your yard! Us too. We have deer (although less that before as Rex chases them), but we've managed to have deer-proof plants. I still don't know what chewed on my peppers, but I think it must be squirrels.
The irony of the policeman saying that! It was cuckoo! Our pepper survived, but we keep them in pots on the deck.
DeleteThat is one creepy garage. Somewhere last week I came across a link to a NYT article discussing how terrifying Halloween decorations have become and basically saying we need to reign this craziness in! Agreed.
ReplyDeleteAll that furniture is head-scratching; I'm a relatively new reader to your blog and I've seen you post about it 2-3 times at least. WHERE IS IT ALL COMING FROM????
I hate all the gory decor at Halloween. But what I hate most are the giant skeletons that people keep up year round. Total eye sore!
DeleteI have never heard of Fall crocuses and they are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteWe are surrounded by deer but thankful the backyard is fenced in. I can't have anything on the front porch. I've noticed they are still chewing on my holly bush even though it's supposedly deer resistant.
I am so curious where your neighbor comes up with all of the stuff they put on the curb. That is insane.
Yes, the first senior discount stung a bit when I received it.
Sorry about all of the construction, I know how much of a pain that was when they were working in our neighborhood. Enjoy the rest of the week!!
I was so shocked by the Fall crocuses. Who knew? Our holly bush at our old house was eventually mowed down by the deer. If they are hungry, they will eat anything, although they manage to avoid what is poisonous.
DeleteThose purple flowers are so beautiful! I never see purple fall flowers- what a treat.
ReplyDeleteThe deer sitting next to the netting meant to protect from the deer made me laugh out loud.
Your neighbors and all the things they throw away- it feels like an episode of Seinfeld! Why are they always throwing away so many things?? 🤣
Those used personal items are very sad. Are they there kind of like a lost and found?
Wasn't it funny that she was sitting right by our covered hydrangea. Next thing, they'll be sitting on that bench! LOL! Honestly, we often think our neighborhood is like an episode of Seinfeld, but when I really think about it, every neighborhood I've ever lived would qualify for that. No, the items in the basket were not lost and found. It said, 'Help Yourself' and I can only assume it was from someone who had passed.
DeleteThose flowers are really pretty. As is the sweet deer. I'm chuckling at the thought of the ground hog or whatever on his hind legs inspecting your garden. I am so curious as to how that baby bird got in that pot. That's wild. We haven't had any critter issues in a while. The baby racoons swimming in my covid 'spa' blow up pool on my deck was probably the last crazy one that cracked us up. I am blown away by that scary clown thing. Also, hey - officer friendly, maybe don't approach the kids on the street like that. So confusing.
ReplyDeleteThe groundhog was hilarious. And he was huge!!!! He really enjoyed the green bean sprouts. Baby racoons swimming in a blow up pool is indeed crazy!
DeleteThat parade of furniture is bizarre. As you say, where on earth do they come from? Good for Hannah Banana, making up a silly name instead of her real one. A shame about your demolished beans. Will you be able to keep the groundhog away?
ReplyDeleteI wonder if other cashiers make up their name, knowing it will be printed on the receipt? I've only noticed regular names before. We'll see if my husband can outsmart the groundhog next year.
DeleteLove the pictures! The furniture on the road took me bac kto when we lived in NYC and I was shocked to see people picking up other people's cast offs right from the street, but why not? Could what's happening there be a cover for something? Sure. But in NYC it was just a thing. It happens here in FL too.
ReplyDeleteThere are usually pick up trucks that come through the neighborhood on Monday morning (trash day) to pick up cast offs. I'm guessing they fix things up and try to resell?
DeleteA big WOW for the fall crocuses, they are beautiful ... such a lovely colour.
ReplyDeleteLots of birds in the garden and a squirrel having a drink from the bird-bath ... I'd not seen that before!
Happy midweek.
All the best Jan
Birds are usually not trouble makers, which I like!
DeleteI love the Fall Crocuses! I didn't know those were a thing, but now I want to look for some.
ReplyDeleteI don't blame you for not switching to AT&T. We had them years ago and will never go back. People here had a hard time dealing with them after Helene, too.
I hope your groundhog will come back so you can get a picture. I haven't seen any of ours for a few days, and I'm starting to worry about them.
I was so surprised by the Fall crocuses! We had AT&T phone and then internet at our old house and they were terrible. I specifically remember our phone being dead for days and I missed an important phone call. I was livid and that was the final straw.
DeleteWe didn't see our bunny rabbit for months, but then he suddenly appeared again a few weeks ago (I'm fairly certain it's the same one; we've only ever seen one at a time here). Maybe they go on vacation somewhere? LOL!
That is very curious about the furniture. Maybe they have it stacked up to the ceiling, and the older they get, the harder it becomes to climb to the top couch?
ReplyDeleteYeah. Probably not.
I love the clown-themed garage door wrap, but it's okay, I do not have kids. I may need to find something like that for next year!
There are always critters in the yard. The deer ate a bunch of Tara's tomato starts last spring, but luckily, they were never able to jump the fence.
It’s so frustrating to start something from seed, only to have it eaten once transported outdoors. My husband loves to talk about the hardships of farming, as if we live on acres on a rural homestead 🙄 I’m like, can’t we just buy it at the store? I’m over gardening!
DeleteWhat a lovely update—fall crocuses, lounging deer, secret agent groundhogs, and rogue office chairs! That “math is not mathing” penny sale gave me a laugh, and the bird-in-the-pot mystery is peak backyard suspense. Your neighborhood’s got more drama and surprises than my Netflix queue.
ReplyDeleteThere’s always something going on in the hood. I can’t even with these retailers and their fake sales!
DeleteAgree, throw away personal care stuff. That's really icky. All the furniture sitting out like that is rather nasty. Do you have to call and schedule and pay for pick up with your trash service? Or do they just take stuff on your regular trash pick up days? We need to schedule it, is why I wondered, and I doubt they would take that much in one day. I never knew there were fall crocuses. Learn something new everyday. I'm enjoying visiting everyone on my blog list, as I've been away from blogging for too many months and it's good to get back into it.
ReplyDeleteWe live in a city where our taxes cover the cost of trash service, including large items. You can put anything out on trash day except appliances. That requires a separate call and pickup day.
DeleteDeer are so cute. Funny that the cop pulled up and did that. I saw a couple of those I see You things on Garages too. I thought it was funny.
ReplyDeleteI couldn’t believe that cop! I’m not a fan of creepy clowns, but they took down the garage thing today.
DeleteThese are all so great! Those flowers are gorgeous and that sweet little deer is so adorable. I am so curious about the neighbors with all the furniture. It may be something that keeps me awake at night, lol. I'm surprised you've never marched over there to ask about it. The creepy clown, just no - and same for the police doing something so stupid!
ReplyDeleteThe deer are adorable until they eat all your bushes and flowers. UGH! I don't talk much to that neighbor. It's a mother with a daughter and her boyfriend. I've only ever talked to the mother maybe 5 times in 13 years. Most people in this neighborhood keep to themselves.
DeleteI've seen a couple of those creepy things on garages around here too. I did not know there was such a thing as fall crocuses! Yes the math is not mathing on those signs at that store!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad those people took down the garage clown. So creepy! I'm over the fake retail sales. It's why I won't shop at Kohl's anymore.
DeleteWe have deer in our back yard most nights. One night we counted 6. I think they have figured out they are safe in our yard. It is deer season in our area.
ReplyDeleteYes, it’s definitely mating season right now. There’s a pack that travels through our yard most mornings, but we sometimes see them on the security camera in the middle of the night.
DeleteThe flowers are gorgeous, as is the resting deer. I'm sure the groundhog was adorable, but um, yeah, stay out of the goodies!
ReplyDeleteThe free items at the nursing center, yes, that is sad. Just toss the stuff, people!!
I've had some critter stuff happening with palm rats, and a hawk. I'll have to blog about it soon!
Not a fan of the scary Halloween stuff and surely that police officer was kidding, right?
~Suz
Well, he gave them candy, so I guess he wasn’t kidding? I can see if they were teens, but my grands are 8, 6, and 4! It was nuts to me. I don’t even want to imagine a palm rat!
DeleteLove the flowers, but I'm super-creeped out by that Pennywise garage image. And what's up with those candy-carrying cops?
ReplyDeleteThe only critters around me tend to be squirrels and most of them behave long enough for me to take a picture. (A friend got a coffee mug labeling me "The Squirrel Whisperer").
There's a chunky skunk that I see some dark mornings on the way to the gym and I always stay clear of him. I used to see some raccoons, but they've been laying low lately.
People around here do put stuff out as freebies, but there's been nothing appealing to me. I think I'll start signing my checks as "Hannah Banana.")
Take care!
Squirrels are adorable unless they are raiding a bird feeder. But honestly, they seem to have more personality than most wild animals around here. I am afraid of raccoons as daylight sightings usually mean rabid.
DeleteThat neighbor with the furniture by the curbside was really unusual. I wondered what happened in bad weather, Is it all removed and then hauled out again and also curious how it can be continually displayed. Personal items should always be disposed of and never recycled for another person to use. The deer did look comfortable despite being unwelcome in the yard.
ReplyDeleteThe deer think they own the place - LOL! In a way, they do. The neighbor puts the things out on Sunday night and then it is picked up on Monday morning by the garbage truck, rain or shine. They just seem to continually have new stuff to put out there. We can't figure out where it's coming from.
DeleteClowns are scary. Think I might freak out pulling the car up into the drive at night and the lights catching that vision.
ReplyDeleteIndeed! Super creepy!
DeleteThe flowers are really pretty. I might have to find some bulbs to plant for next year!
ReplyDeleteWe rarely see deer in our area, but a few weeks ago a baby deer was just chilling in my backyard. I tried to get a picture of him, but I think I spooked him because he hopped the fence took off. Never saw him in the area again after that day.
We do get a lot of baby birds though. Usually they are on the brink of death when I find them because of all the stray cats in our neighborhood. I used to do my best to patch them up and hope for a miracle, but they always ended up dead before the next day so now I just let nature take its course. I am definitely not a healer.
I LOL at the clown. I can see where it would be disturbing for other neighbors though and probably wouldn't hang it myself. I do try to be respectful to all of the neighbors.
I'm surprised you don't have more deer. They are all over the place here. We have a barred owl that we see occasionally, and I bet he helps himself to a lot of the baby birds. I guess it's just a circle of life thing. That clown was too creepy for me!
DeleteWaving hi as I make my blog rounds.
ReplyDeleteSo many things to comment on here! Love the purple crocuses. The "I see you" on a garage where kids live is horrible. The cop with candy is weird. The furniture is weirder. Where does it all come from? And do people with trucks pull up and take it home? I can only guess/hope the basket of hair brushes, etc. is a lost and found of sorts, not a "their owners are now dead" situation. So frustrating about the green beans! Kind of you to inadvertently feed the local wildlife, but that would drive me nuts.
ReplyDeleteWe live in Bizarro World, I guess! Merry Christmas!
DeleteHa! Merry Christmas, J! I hope your family had a lovely day. :)
