After my previous post, let's brighten the mood with some of my favorite internet superhighway spots:
Would you like to follow your favorite authors, keep a list of books you want to read, and keep track of books you have read, all in one spot? Then Fantastic Fiction is the place for you. I absolutely love this site. I can periodically look at my saved favorite authors and see when they have a new release out, without 'following' them on Facebook or Instagram, where my feed will then be clogged by their (sometimes) daily promotions. No thanks! It's also helpful when you discover a new author and want to read all their old stuff. This website is a game changer for fiction fiends, like me.
I discovered Lucy Wyndham-Read earlier this year and I am hooked on her YouTube exercise videos. She has everything from 5 -25 minutes workouts, but her walking videos in European cities/towns are my favorite. Here is one of a few she did in Venice. I enjoy doing one of her videos after dinner every night in the comfort of my bedroom, in front of the television. You just need a small amount of space to walk/jog in place. I find her to be very positive and encouraging.
If you are on Instagram, do not sleep on this account: Elaine Carol's Kitchen My oldest daughter sent me a link to the account, asking me, "Is this woman for real?" The answer: Maybe?? Elaine’s recipes can only be deemed disturbing, but every once in a while, she throws in a realistic one to play games with us. It's addictive to watch and the comments are hilarious. Elaine always gives me a laugh!
I could do numerous posts on my favorite addiction: TikTok. But my latest favorite is Australian Amy-Jo Simpson and her husband’s dance videos. She dances and he watches and laughs. Between her facial expression and her slippers, I want to be best friends with this woman. I’m not able to embed the video, so I hope this works: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTFETFA3Q/
Wow, what awesome internet superhighway spots!
ReplyDeleteYou and I are so much alike because I too have discovered some really helpful and fun internet spots. You should see my You Tube subscription list, it's HUGE. I follow anything from yoga and meditation videos, to ASMR videos (to help sleep), to skincare and makeup tutorials, to my favorite musicians, and all the way to movie reviews/recommendations. When I'm online, I spend a great deal of time on You Tube. However, I'm getting sick and tired from all commercial interruptions they now interject while watching a video. Prior to the election, they had commercial breaks every 3 minutes. JEESH!
And speaking of Instagram, I spend time there as well! Most of the accounts I follow are either photographers or foodies. I've gotten some of the BEST recipes on Instagram! Thanks for sharing Elaine's Kitchen. I watched a few video posts. How fun! And what a gorgeous woman! Love her red hair!
TikTok? I can't get into. However, I know so many people who really enjoy it. It's very popular for product recommendations. I have so many customers who come into my stores; asking if we carry certain skincare/makeup/haircare/fragrance products. It's very big with influencers at the moment.
One of my favorite spots on the Internet is Mat & Savanna Shaw (a father/daughter singing duo). They have such gorgeous voices. Here's the link in case you'd like to check them out - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXXYYJSkPqs
Thanks for sharing, my friend. Have a faaaaaaaabulous week!
X
It’s interesting to hear what others spend time on. I only use YouTube for workout videos, and there are only four trainers/physical therapists I follow. Sometimes I’ll watch music videos on there, too. Elaine is a hoot! So bizarre and she purposefully seems to mispronounce words wrong, which really sets people off in the comments. Her recipes are truly awful, but hilarious.
DeleteWhen TikTok first came out, I thought it was stupid. I just didn’t understand how flipping through all that was entertaining. Then last Xmas, my spouse kept showing me these funny videos and I eventually got hooked. Yes, I know it’s very big with influencers. I follow some of the people who go to Aldi and Dollar Tree to show what products they love. It has helped me discover new things, but overall, not that helpful. I just looked through the Shaw videos and wow! So beautiful and inspirational! I will share with Middle Child, as that’s right up her alley! You have a great week, too! ❤️
I have never heard of Fantastic Fiction! Brilliant! I'm not on TikTok but maybe I'll check out that kitchen one - eeee I don't know, though. I don't know if I want my algorithm filled with weird recipes! Which is what happens if you look too long at anything - you see 100000 posts about it (ask me about shapewear and makeup for the older woman).
ReplyDeleteI think you would really appreciate Fantastic Fiction. It’s so helpful! Elaine is on Instagram and she’s so unique, I can’t imagine how an algorithm could send you anything similar 🤣
DeleteHi Bijoux. Thank you for sharing Fantastic Fiction. That really looks like something I would use. I follow Amy Jo on FB and she always cracks me up. Where does she get all of that energy?? I need to know. I checked out a couple of videos on Elaines Kitchen, she is too funny. Chefmaxcancook is also on IG and he is such a talented little guy. I think you'll enjoy his videos. I hope all is well with you!!
ReplyDeleteI'm excited that you know who Amy Jo is!!! YES, she is SO energetic, it cracks me up! Love her and her husband! Elaine is a real nutter, isn't she? Too funny! I just looked up Chef Max and he is adorable!!!! I will follow him so I can see what he cooks up! Thanks!
DeleteI watched the dancing in her slippers lady and her chuckling husband. That was so funny. I had no idea about that Fantastic Fiction site. It sounds really useful. I'll have to check it out.
ReplyDeleteI guess I don't really use the internet for anything else. I do workout videos that are posted by a trainer from my gym. She started posting them during covid and the club shut down. All the videos are old, but I'm friends with her, so I click on old videos that I know are going to be great and I do them in the comfort of my family room before the tots get dropped off. That's one of the few positives that came from the pandemic. I don't have to get up hours early to drive to the gym before my daycare starts.
Thanks for the laugh.
Isn't Amy Jo so funny?? I love all the songs she dances to and she seems to do the dance moves perfectly. If you like fiction, that website is really useful. AND, it doesn't seem to sign me out like so many other sites do (a real pet peeve of mine).
DeleteI'm with you on not driving to the gym anymore. I gave up on that long ago. The YouTube workouts are always there, day or night, and I can fit them in no matter what my schedule is that day.
Well, apart from the very predictable news outlets, I love Simon's Cat, which is always hilarious. Fantastic Fiction looks good, I must check it out.
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy the fiction site, Nick.
DeleteThanks for sharing! I need a good laugh. My favorite spot today I've visted on the internet today is Carpet Cleaning in Bentonville, AR I'm so excited for my upcoming appointment!
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
DeleteI'm all about Reddit these days. I spend more time on there than just about anywhere else (blog reading being the exception). There's a nice for everything, and I do mean, everything. Hence the addiction.
ReplyDeleteGoodreads I know about; sounds like I'll have to check Fantastic Fiction out!
I used to be on Reddit almost every day, but I gave it up for TikTok. I found the comments on Reddit to be a cesspool and just couldn't deal with it anymore. Even topics like health/nutrition, people were so rude and intolerant. However, I will still look at it if it comes up in a Google search for something.
DeleteThanks for those. I will check them out.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!
DeleteWow. I want to check out all of these. And I already copy pasted your first paragraph to my reading-addict daughter. ~B
ReplyDeleteI hope she finds it useful!
DeleteThanks for sharing these. I'm going to check out Lucy Wyndham-Read.
ReplyDeleteI love watching The Crochet Crowd on YouTube, even stuff I know I'm never going to make, because Mikey is positive and funny. And I love Chunk Land on YouTube. It's lots of groundhog videos, which I love.
LMK if you end up following Lucy. Chunk Land sounds so cute! I've enjoyed watching groundhogs and sloths on TikTok. How are things going for you? I feel as though the media has forgotten NC.
DeleteOmg, I needed this post. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I love the idea of someone walking in places I might never get to visit! It's like I'm traveling from my family room! Maybe I will even get my mom hooked on this...
I love the idea of this post. I might steal this...
I’m glad you appreciated it! I appreciate you! Lucy’s walking videos are so fun and the time goes fast. I try to keep up a light jog in place and have noticed I’ve increased my stamina since I started earlier this year. Please steal away!
DeleteThanks for sharing, Bijoux. I am always on the lookout for some good spots on the internet. One of my favorite places to waste time is Imgur.
ReplyDeleteThat must be where you find your great memes, which I love.
DeleteI've never heard of Fantastic Fiction. I've been using Good Reads for my book list and like how if you want you can do a review, she what others thought of the book, read summaries etc. I'll have to check out Fantastic Fiction to see how it compares. Not sure I need another place to spend time sitting on my rear and playing on the net though, lol. There are so many distractions.
ReplyDeleteThe internet is definitely a time suck, but at the end of the day, I just want to relax and be entertained.
DeleteI'm not on TikTok— well I have an account, but never remember to look at it. I should try to check it out. I don't do much with YouTube either. I do get a kick out of Peaches ‘n Diesel on IG. She mocks fashion and I laugh.
ReplyDeleteI just looked up her account. Interesting, very interesting 🤣
DeleteI like both Instagram and TikTok. I love watching dance videos on them. My go to for books is Goodreads. Whenever I'm at the library I always look up books I'm thinking of renting on it. I'm definitely going to check out Lucy Wyndham.
ReplyDeleteDance videos are always fun! LMK how you like Lucy.
DeleteI'm gonna look at the Fantastic Fiction link; looks right up my alley. I see Amy Jo on Insta and she's a hoot! Girl, I just lost time on Elaines Insta. She can't be serious; melting vaseline, adding scents and wiping it over the interior of her car? The food stuff? WHAT IN THE WORLD? 🤣
ReplyDeleteI bookmarked the walking/exercise lady; looks fun for me!
I'm not on the tik Tok, but I have few I love on Insta: postpunk_80, Tanksgoodnews, Adamantofficial, some of the bravo housewives, Billy Idol and and lex.delarosa. (She's very funny/campy!)
Isn't Elaine a complete wack job?? Everything about her is so bizarre, except for her hubby who looks like a perfectly nice man. So many questions . . .
DeleteLMK if you like Lucy's exercise videos. I really enjoy them. You are lucky you have ignored the time suck of TikTok because it is the most addicting social media out there. I will look up some of your Insta fun, but I think I do follow both Adam Ant and Billy Idol. Billy singing with Miley Cyrus is one of the best videos out there!!!
You will love the postpunk_80 page---so much good music!
DeleteI will check it out!
DeleteWell, Bijoux, that was certainly enlightening.
ReplyDeleteFantastic Fiction looked really cool, Amy-Jo Simpson's dance video was funny, Lucy Wyndham-Read's walking videos have possibilities and Elaine Carol was...uh...different?
You've certainly given me a lot to think about. Keep up with the great suggestions!
Glad I could entertain you on a Monday night, Rob!
DeleteMaking a note to look up Lucy Wyndham. Love the video in Venice. We've been there pre-Covid. I wonder how she was able to be there with no people around. I need some inspiration, now that the weather is ugly I haven't gone out walking in about 4 days. Being an indoor slug
ReplyDeleteIt’s hard to walk when the weather is so cold and gloomy. She says she does her filming at 6 am when most people are still asleep.
DeleteI swore I commented on this last week, but blogger has been acting so glitchy for me lately. Fantastic Fiction is new to me and sounds like something that I need to check out! Going to go bookmark that right now. I had a goal of reading 25 books this year. I think I'm like 5 away from hitting that goal and honestly probably will come up one or two short. But that will keep me motivated to keep reading into the new year, methinks.
ReplyDeleteI'm not really into the "influencer" types of social media videos. I find a lot of them doing stupid things for clicks and views wears on my nerves quickly. Like there's this one lady that puts tampons in her freezer while filming a cooking video or does other stupid things and I just can't with that. However, I get sucked into TikTok a lot lately with their animal videos. And once it was a rabbit hole of videos on how to scare off Somali pirates (might have told you about that one already). Like, I know I will never need that info, but it was fascinating watching the ships defend themselves from the pirates.
