As posted about here, Husband has been holding onto an autographed Bert Blyleven baseball for over 25 years. Last week, his dream (both Bert's and Husband's) came true. Bert was voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. I'm sure our mortgage can now be paid off, right??
Well, congratulations to Bert Blyleven (whose Minnesota license plate is 'BLY11'). 'Baseball people' will tell you he had one of the great curveballs of all time. . .
ReplyDeleteI've got an Al Kaline autographed ball on my desk. I have no idea what I could sell it for; I'll let my kids worry about that after I'm gone. . .
And I really get a kick out of woodpeckers, too. When we go Up North in the summertime, we rarely see them, but we hear them all the time. . .
Beautiful bird! It sure beats the tree rats I have.
ReplyDeleteAs to birds, I mostly have Morning Doves and Chickadees. But then, I have chickadee feed in the bird feeder at the moment.
Craig - As shocking as this may be, I have no idea who Al Kaline is! You know my sports knowledge is quite limited, don't cha?
ReplyDeleteRuss - We are mourning dove haters here. They are like squatters: sit there fannies in the feeder all day and make a mess. They remind me of two year old eaters.
Pileateds are one of my all-time favorite birds - I have one who visits here on occasion.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea who that ball player is, but now a small part of me is wondering if I shouldn't toss the autographed baseball my son has on his dresser that I've wanted to sneak out and get rid of for a couple years. Sure, it's only signed by a farm team (that makes me sound like I know what I'm talking about) player, but maybe one day, my kid will make enough money off of it to buy a tank of gas? Maybe a gallon of milk?
ReplyDelete:)
Well, congrats to Bert, but what about Ernie?
ReplyDeletePileated woodpeckers are a sight to behold. You should see when they fight! There are a few we see when we go hunting at my uncle's place and twice I've witnessed them fighting, I presume over a female.
I'm impressed that you've gotten them to a feeder, there's one in our neighborhood that will watch the feeder but never comes in. Nice pic!
Wow, what a great shot of the woodpecker. They take some finding over here, although I have spotted the odd one or two.. alas, never on camera! Sounds like hubby is a happy bunny (grin).. ah, boys and their hero's, eh?
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry; I forget sometimes. Hall of Fame Tiger, and my boyhood idol.
ReplyDeleteAnd contrary to what you may have heard, they didn't name the battery after him. . .
Agent - It is really a unique bird!
ReplyDeleteFADKOG - Don't 'pitch' it! You never know who will be the next Babe Ruth.
X - That would be neat to see two together. Ours seems to be a loner, but I know he must have companions somewhere or maybe I'm just seeing different ones and I don't know it.
Shrinky - Fortunately, we live on a wooded lot, so lots of woodpeckers, but this guy is the best.
Craig - Well, then that is a great baseball for you to own. I don't think Husband has much attachment to Bert, except for having gotten that baseball while he played for the Indians.
Those birds really are just so cool - I don't think any animal lives up to it's cartoon heritage better! Nice shot.
ReplyDeleteYep, I believe that normally you would only see a male and female together. Two boys together means trouble, trust me! They fight pretty good.
ReplyDeleteTatty - I would love to see a roadrunner sometime, but yeah, this guy really does resemble Woody.
